General
- Small, friendly site on a farm 10 minutes' drive from Cowbridge
- Insulated and double-glazed pods with barbecue and electricity
- Ogmore and Southerndown beaches within 15 minutes' drive
Small, friendly, based in the viewsome Vale of Glamorgan, close to the equally viewsome Glamorgan Heritage Coast and 10 minutes’ drive from Cowbridge… pitching up at Picket Pods is a pretty fine idea.
The timber camping pods at this very friendly and popular site are pretty tidy too, set in a quiet grass field surrounded by trees for proper peaceful rural vibes. It’s all part of a 100-acre working farm that’s also got a livery yard, so you’ll often see horses trotting about the place too.
A barbie area is set up out on the balcony of each pod, with a porch light overhead if you fancy late-night snacking or sticking around for alfresco drinks after dark. Need a little extra food prep space? Scamper over to the kitchen area, which has a fridge, freezer and microwave, plus a toaster and kettle for sorting brekkie. Actually hoping to avoid the need for any kitchen duties? There are several country pubs within a couple of miles that’ll serve you fuss-free meals and pints.
Warm Welsh times are on the cards for all guests here – the pods are fully insulated and double glazed to keep things cosy, and kitted out with electric lighting and power sockets to make life easy. A communal toilet and shower block is a short stroll away from the pods.

Local attractions
The coast and countryside in this part of Wales is what can only be called pretty ruddy spectacular – and it's all easily accessed from Picket Pods.
The shoreline’s a couple of miles from the site, so it’s all very straightforward to head out for a walk on the coast path, a scramble through the dunes at Merthyr Mawr (20 minutes’ drive), a horse ride through the shallows from Ogmore (15 minutes) or a surf session at Southerndown (15 minutes). A little further along the coast, Barry Island (half an hour) has tours for fans of the telly show Gavin & Stacey, along with a lush beach and a rather impressive funfair.
The market town of Cowbridge (10 minutes) has a good selection of independent shops to browse; for bigger stores and lots of activities and attractions, Cardiff is about seven miles from here. If you’re sticking closer to your pod-based home, grab your clubs for a round at one of several golf courses nearby or delve into the history of the area with a stop at 12th-century Ogmore Castle (15 minutes).
