  • Peaceful and family-friendly Glamorgan site bordering the River Taff
  • Castell Coch 10 minutes’ drive; Cardiff city centre 20 minutes
  • Communal kitchen and modern facilities; pub 20 minutes’ walk
Fancy a Glamorgan base with easy access to river fishing or wild swimming amid ancient woodland and peaceful valleys? Introducing Garth Glamping, 20 minutes’ drive from Cardiff city centre and bordering the River Taff at the foot of Garth Hill. Here you also have several fields – each framed by oak and beech – to explore, where you can exercise any four-legged pals and let the kids run around generally being kids. Helpful on-site facilities at this peaceful waterside spot include a pristine modern toilet block and shower enclosure a short stroll from the pitches, and a bottled water station for refilling your flasks and coolers. You'll also have use of a fridge/freezer, hob, kettle and gas barbecue in the communal kitchen area, where there’s a full set of crockery, cutlery, pots and pans and washing-up supplies – in short, everything you need for whipping up a simple supper or firing up the barbecue for an alfresco feast. When you’re ready to explore, follow marked woodland trails or wander quiet country lanes in the surrounding farmland. Cycle hire can be arranged locally if you’re after two-wheeled adventures, but when you’d rather simply sink into a deckchair with a glass of local craft cider and listen for the tawny owls, well, that’s all good too. There’s a pub 20 minutes’ walk from the site gates, and another one, plus a few shops, in the village of Pentyrch (10 minutes’ drive).

Liked "We had an incredible stay at Garth Glamping. The amenities are exceptionally well thought out and kept sparkling clean throughout our visit, the showers and shared spaces are spotless. The location is perfect for sightseeing, with scenic walks right up Garth Hill and easy access to local gems like Castell Coch. The owners are super friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome with lovely, thoughtful touches. It is peaceful, never feels crowded during our stay, I will definitely make this my go-to site for future trips!".

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Beautiful location, spacious site, friendly owners. Everything to do with staying here was simple and easy. I can comfortably say that I would stay again. There is a trainline nearby but it doesn't run too often and we chose to pitch up next to it and hardly noticed.

Disliked The shower pump stopped working (what can you do), but the people running the site were amazing and it was running by the morning.

From the manager: Thank you so much for the lovely review! 🥰 We’re so pleased you enjoyed yourselves.

Unfortunately, our generator decided to have a little strop during your stay and temporarily affected the shower pump, one of those joys of running an off-grid site! 😂 Thankfully we were able to get it sorted quickly and everything was back up and running by the morning.

Thanks again for being so understanding, and we’d absolutely love to have you back! ❤️

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely large field with communal area. Shared kitchen facilities which were clean. Toilets and showers also really clean. River nearby.

Disliked Not a dislike but info for campervans. There are no facilities for emptying waste and no drinking water on site (unless boiling).
Did think £10 for a dog was steep though.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for your review. We’re pleased you found the site, kitchen, toilets and showers clean and enjoyed the river.

Just to clarify for future guests reading this: drinking water is absolutely available on site. We have a clearly visible drinking-water dispenser situated directly beside the kitchen fridge, so we’re surprised this was missed. We do, of course, provide drinking water for guests.

We also do have designated waste areas on site where campervan waste can be emptied. Had you asked us during your stay, we would have been very happy to point you in the right direction.

We’re always happy to help guests with anything they’re unsure about, but unfortunately we can’t resolve an issue we haven’t been made aware of during the stay.

Regarding the £10 dog charge, this is clearly stated at the time of booking, so there shouldn’t be any surprise about the cost.

We just wanted to correct these points so future campers aren’t left with the impression that these facilities aren’t available when they are.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Location

Disliked Too expensive for a van in a field with no EHU. Showers, one had no lock, no enough quality hooks, nowhere to hang dry clothes, towel, or put wash bags. Metal soap rack fell off. Dirty showers.

Needs a small nbemch and better hooks.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: This review is quite extraordinary.

You knowingly booked a non-electric pitch and have then criticised us because it had no electric hook-up. That is not a fault with the site, that is exactly what you chose and paid for. Our pitch fee covers up to 8 guests as we refuse to mislead bookers with what appear to be cheap pitch fees and turn out to be a charge per person!

The comments about the showers are also misleading. They are cleaned twice daily, each shower has three hooks and a rack for toiletries and wash bags. One lock had been damaged (by a guest) and has now been replaced.

We are more than happy to take genuine criticism, but reviews should be accurate and fair. Marking us down for facilities that were never advertised, while making claims about facilities that demonstrably exist, is neither.

It is also disappointing to see such a strongly worded review left anonymously rather than raising any of these concerns with us during the stay, when we could have addressed them immediately.

Future guests can judge for themselves from our listing, photographs and the many other reviews we have received.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Great venue - as other reviewers have mentioned, it's through a village and then down a track on a working farm, so be prepared for this when travelling - some of the road is tight!
The actual campsite is gorgeous, with great facilities - three toilets and three showers, which work well for the small site. We didn't have to queue once.
There's a communal kitchen which is a lovely touch, plenty of pots, pans, kettles etc for all to use if needed. A great covered area with benches for gathering to sit/eat and plenty of kid's toys and activities too!

My favourite part has to be the pigs - absolutely loved them!

Disliked I don't have much to write in this section really... Others have mentioned the noisy road, we did hear a couple of noisy cars but nothing that kept us awake and if you were a light sleeper, the hosts provide ear plugs in the kitchen area!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for such a lovely review! ❤️ We’re so glad you enjoyed the site and all the little touches around it, especially the kitchen, covered area and kids’ bits.

And we love that the pigs were your favourite! 😂🐷 They do seem to steal the show with a lot of our guests!

We really appreciate you mentioning the access and road noise in such a fair way too. Being on a working farm does mean the approach is a little more rural, but once you’re here we hope the setting makes it worth it!

Thank you again for staying with us and we’d absolutely love to welcome you back! 🏕️❤️

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The showers and toilets were clean, once on the field setting up was as simple as just selecting a spot.

Disliked The access to the site would discourage me from using it again.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback, and we’re pleased you found the facilities clean and the pitching process straightforward.

We’re really sorry to hear about the noise from other guests during your stay. We do have quiet-hours expectations in place and would absolutely have intervened had we been made aware at the time. Unfortunately, with a campsite we can’t physically monitor every guest throughout the night, so we really do encourage anyone experiencing an issue to contact us straight away so we can deal with it.

We also appreciate your comments regarding access to the site and completely understand that the rural access may not suit everyone. Thank you again for staying with us and for taking the time to leave feedback.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Very cool chilled and relaxed campsite that had very clean and well set up facilities.
And the local pub served great food and was lovely.

Disliked It would have been appreciated to note that there is a main train line very close.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely review! ❤️ We’re really pleased you enjoyed the relaxed feel of the site, the facilities and the local pub.

Just to mention regarding the trains, the railway does run alongside the site and this is visible throughout our photo gallery, so we do try to show the location as accurately as possible before guests book. That said, we’ll certainly take your feedback on board and look at making it even clearer in our written information too.

Thanks again for staying with us and we’d love to welcome you back!

Local attractions

From your pitch, follow waymarked trails up the Garth (20 minutes’ walk) for views over Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. The 55-mile Taff Trail (for walkers and cyclists) passes close by too, so you can follow the scenic section to Pontypridd on largely traffic-free paths alongside the river. Heritage-lovers can tour the extraordinary Castell Coch (10 minutes’ drive), an ornate folly combining a medieval castle with Gothic-Victorian additions, or have a nose around Caerphilly Castle (15 minutes) with its drawbridges and battlements. Also well worth a visit is St Fagans National Museum of History (20 minutes), an open-air folk museum recreating Welsh life through historic buildings and crafts workshops. If the kids aren't taken with all that history, test their wits in themed escape games at Cardiff’s Puzzled Escape Rooms, or take them to Tenpin Cardiff Nantgarw (both 10 minutes) for bowling, arcade games and fast food in the diner. These also make great rainy day choices if the weather turns on you.
