  • Peaceful and family-friendly Glamorgan site bordering the River Taff
  • Castell Coch 10 minutes’ drive; Cardiff city centre 20 minutes
  • Communal kitchen and modern facilities; pub 20 minutes’ walk
Fancy a Glamorgan base with easy access to river fishing or wild swimming amid ancient woodland and peaceful valleys? Introducing Garth Glamping, 20 minutes’ drive from Cardiff city centre and bordering the River Taff at the foot of Garth Hill. Here you also have several fields – each framed by oak and beech – to explore, where you can exercise any four-legged pals and let the kids run around generally being kids. Helpful on-site facilities at this peaceful waterside spot include a pristine modern toilet block and shower enclosure a short stroll from the pitches, and a bottled water station for refilling your flasks and coolers. You'll also have use of a fridge/freezer, hob, kettle and gas barbecue in the communal kitchen area, where there’s a full set of crockery, cutlery, pots and pans and washing-up supplies – in short, everything you need for whipping up a simple supper or firing up the barbecue for an alfresco feast. When you’re ready to explore, follow marked woodland trails or wander quiet country lanes in the surrounding farmland. Cycle hire can be arranged locally if you’re after two-wheeled adventures, but when you’d rather simply sink into a deckchair with a glass of local craft cider and listen for the tawny owls, well, that’s all good too. There’s a pub 20 minutes’ walk from the site gates, and another one, plus a few shops, in the village of Pentyrch (10 minutes’ drive).

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Great venue - as other reviewers have mentioned, it's through a village and then down a track on a working farm, so be prepared for this when travelling - some of the road is tight!
The actual campsite is gorgeous, with great facilities - three toilets and three showers, which work well for the small site. We didn't have to queue once.
There's a communal kitchen which is a lovely touch, plenty of pots, pans, kettles etc for all to use if needed. A great covered area with benches for gathering to sit/eat and plenty of kid's toys and activities too!

My favourite part has to be the pigs - absolutely loved them!

Disliked I don't have much to write in this section really... Others have mentioned the noisy road, we did hear a couple of noisy cars but nothing that kept us awake and if you were a light sleeper, the hosts provide ear plugs in the kitchen area!

From the manager: Thank you so much for such a lovely review! ❤️ We’re so glad you enjoyed the site and all the little touches around it, especially the kitchen, covered area and kids’ bits.

And we love that the pigs were your favourite! 😂🐷 They do seem to steal the show with a lot of our guests!

We really appreciate you mentioning the access and road noise in such a fair way too. Being on a working farm does mean the approach is a little more rural, but once you’re here we hope the setting makes it worth it!

Thank you again for staying with us and we’d absolutely love to welcome you back! 🏕️❤️

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The showers and toilets were clean, once on the field setting up was as simple as just selecting a spot.

Disliked The access to the site would discourage me from using it again.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback, and we’re pleased you found the facilities clean and the pitching process straightforward.

We’re really sorry to hear about the noise from other guests during your stay. We do have quiet-hours expectations in place and would absolutely have intervened had we been made aware at the time. Unfortunately, with a campsite we can’t physically monitor every guest throughout the night, so we really do encourage anyone experiencing an issue to contact us straight away so we can deal with it.

We also appreciate your comments regarding access to the site and completely understand that the rural access may not suit everyone. Thank you again for staying with us and for taking the time to leave feedback.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Very cool chilled and relaxed campsite that had very clean and well set up facilities.
And the local pub served great food and was lovely.

Disliked It would have been appreciated to note that there is a main train line very close.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely review! ❤️ We’re really pleased you enjoyed the relaxed feel of the site, the facilities and the local pub.

Just to mention regarding the trains, the railway does run alongside the site and this is visible throughout our photo gallery, so we do try to show the location as accurately as possible before guests book. That said, we’ll certainly take your feedback on board and look at making it even clearer in our written information too.

Thanks again for staying with us and we’d love to welcome you back!

Liked Great little campsite, toilets and showers were lovely, there's lovely little kitchen area as well
Kids swam in the river and had a great time.

Disliked Can't be helped but there is a trainline there after a while you do get used to it (daytime mainly)

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for the lovely review! ❤️ We’re so pleased you enjoyed the campsite, facilities and kitchen area, and it sounds like the kids made the most of the river too! 🏕️🌿

The train line is definitely part of our little valley setting and, as you said, most people soon get used to it. We do try to show it clearly throughout our photos so guests know what to expect before arriving.

Thanks again for staying with us and we’d love to welcome you back

James S. 1 review

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Great facilities. Lovely views. Ideal for fisherthems or bird watchers. It's a budget friendly way to see Wales and it has some of the nicest pubs and restaurants locally. It's also a stones throw away from some lovely castles and follies.
If you have a canoe you could go into Cardiff on from the site.
It's pet and kid friendly.
If you're a train spotter this is right up your street as during the day there is at least 4 an hour go past.
The facilities are cleaned regular and topped up with fresh water.
This would also make a great venue for team building events or a secluded camp for groups as it's out of the way.
If the weather is right and you have enough food and beverage you could stay and not leave the site.

Disliked Noisy at night. Less than 100 yards away from road which is mainly driven on by boy racers by the sound. I know it's not the fault of the site but it didn't stop untill the early hours.
The access to and from the site is ok however if your a bit flappy on single roads with tight spaces get some practice in before hand.

From the manager: Thank you so much for such a detailed review, James! We’re really glad you enjoyed the facilities, views and location. We really appreciate your understanding regarding the road noise too, sadly that’s one thing we can’t control! We’d love to welcome you and the family back again 🏕️

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked A beautiful campsite with great facilities and was very well maintained and clean. also great communication with the campsite manager.

Disliked Communal kitchen area was not as stocked as we were led to believe, resulting in an adjustment to our food planning

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely review! ❤️ We’re really pleased you enjoyed the site and would visit again.

We’d genuinely love to know what you felt was missing from the communal kitchen, as we try to keep it really well stocked with cooking equipment, utensils, crockery, cutlery, fridge/freezer space, kettle, hob, BBQ etc. It may be that certain items were being used by other guests at the time, but if there’s something we’ve overlooked we’d really appreciate knowing so we can add it for future stays! 😊

Thanks again for staying with us and hopefully we’ll welcome you back to Garth soon! 🏕️

Local attractions

From your pitch, follow waymarked trails up the Garth (20 minutes’ walk) for views over Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. The 55-mile Taff Trail (for walkers and cyclists) passes close by too, so you can follow the scenic section to Pontypridd on largely traffic-free paths alongside the river. Heritage-lovers can tour the extraordinary Castell Coch (10 minutes’ drive), an ornate folly combining a medieval castle with Gothic-Victorian additions, or have a nose around Caerphilly Castle (15 minutes) with its drawbridges and battlements. Also well worth a visit is St Fagans National Museum of History (20 minutes), an open-air folk museum recreating Welsh life through historic buildings and crafts workshops. If the kids aren't taken with all that history, test their wits in themed escape games at Cardiff’s Puzzled Escape Rooms, or take them to Tenpin Cardiff Nantgarw (both 10 minutes) for bowling, arcade games and fast food in the diner. These also make great rainy day choices if the weather turns on you.
