General

  • Spacious site in the grounds of a pub 15 minutes' walk from the beach
  • Surfing, golf and horse riding within a few minutes' drive
  • Mobile bar, showers and drinking water available in the field

Fancy a pint? Want to walk for less than a minute to get your mitts on it? You’re in luck at the Three Golden Cups, a spacious family-friendly site that just happens to be handily located in the grounds of a friendly pub. Extra holiday points apply here for the fact that it’s only a 15-minute walk from the sandy beach of Dunraven Bay, with sea views from various corners of the site.

Pitch up in the grass field here (there’s plenty of space so you can afford to spread out) and you’ll be mere steps away from a range of beers and wines that can be supped in the cosy bar or out in the beer garden. Settle in for a little longer if you like and partake of the full menu of tasty snacks and meals. No guilty microwave ding here – everything’s freshly prepared by the in-house chefs.

When even that’s too far to haul yourself to acquire a drink, scooch on over to the mobile bar that’s been set up in the field to provide an even more convenient source of refreshment to weary travellers. If you’re just in need of a cooling drink, you can avail yourself of one of the drinking water taps around the field.

A quick amble across the field brings you to the toilet block, which has separate male and female shower facilities and a washing-up area. There’s no wifi at the site itself but you can login at the pub when you pop in to get your food and drinks.

If you’d prefer to turn your hand to cooking your own dinner you’re most welcome to light up a barbie on your pitch. The nearest supermarkets are 15 minutes’ drive away in Bridgend, but there’s a farm shop just a few minutes up the road where you can pick up local organic meats to chuck on the grill.

    Everything 😁👍
The three golden cups campsite is set in a beautiful setting. Facilities are excellent as is the pub connected to the campsite . We were made to feel incredibly welcome by all connected to the pub
The pub is also the hub of the village and is a focal point for the community as well. The food is outstanding and reasonably priced , as is it he cider 🤪
The campsite it’s self overlooks the magnificent coastline of southerndown and has incredible and unspoilt vows across the hills and downs
I cannot recommend this site enough
    Simply stunning
I’d like to give a huge thank you to the owners and staff at the three golden cups

Campsite itself is good, shame about the loud music from the pub! 06/09/2018

Satisfactory toilet and shower facilities for the price though slightly larger areas to keep clothes dry in the showers would be helpful though water is hot and plentiful and there is no extra charge for the showers.Toilets and basins clean though some towel hooks would be useful. There are a reasonable number of flat areas in the camping field and the ground is non-stony so easy to pitch. Had a decent half pint of Old Rosie in the pub and the benches outside the front of the pub have fantastic views over the Southerndown Cliffs.

    Disliked:

We stayed at this site for just one night while visiting friends who live nearby but despite having initially been quite pleased with the campsite when we arrived, we were unfortunately kept awake into the early hours of the morning by music blaring from the adjoining Three Golden Cups pub, which also runs the campsite. After returning to our tent at about midnight, quietly and on foot, all we wanted was a good night's sleep. However as the pub was closing and they were locking their doors, exceedingly loud music then started up. It appeared to be a private party of the bar and restaurant staff and I'm not talking a distant thump of a bass beat, this was detailed audibility of every word and note of every song. The irony is that there are vast lists of rules positioned all over the campsite and online about the absolute demand for campsite silence from 11pm intil 8am!! By 1.15am, we could take it no longer and had to get up and get dressed and go over to the pub to try to get the attention of the occupants of the party to get the music turned down. This took some time as the music was so loud they couldn't hear us knocking. Eventually the landlord appeared and the music volume was reduced significantly though he was unrepentant and claimed he has a licence from the vale of Glamorgan council to play music at this volume after 1am. Maybe he has, but common courtesy really should have stopped him from doing so when there were about 15 tents and campervans in close proximity, all full of people trying to sleep! All in all, I'm sorry to say that it was a disappointing end to our evening and we had a very disturbed night's sleep.

From the manager...

Thanks for the comments, and whilst some are justified, to give your comments vigour you have departed with some of the facts. It was an end of season party and perhaps I misjudged it but at your. request the music was turned off immediately and I apologised for my misjudgement. It is also interesting to note that friends of mine were camping close to you and reported no such disturbance but despite that I again apologise for my misjudgement but perhaps understandably given the nature of the party as after a long hard season I was treating our hard working staff to a little reward before they went back to their respective universities.
Hope you can forgive us and pay us a return visit.

It didn’t feel like other sites I have been to,when I arrived owners weren’t expecting us ,given a bit of paper for my car and sent on my way. No briefing of where things are and meal times in pub or how to get to beach and didn’t see the owners for the duration of my stay. Site could use a bit of a personal touch. I would go back purely for the location it’s in

Local attractions

Most guests’ first port of call from here is the beach at Dunraven Bay, a 15-minute walk away. Lots of beachy tastes are catered for here – there’s a sandy beach, a stretch of shingle and plenty of rock pools to pole about in. If you’d like to learn how to get on to the water or want to brush up your board technique, sign up for a surfing lesson at Southerndown Surf School, next to the beach.

If your idea of beach bliss involves a dream sequence of riding a horse in the surf, you can bring that to life with a seaside trek from the riding centre in Ogmore-by-Sea, five minutes’ drive from the site. Meanwhile, golfers can wield a club on the limestone heath course at Southerndown Golf Club, 10 minutes away, and walkers can hit the trails of the Wales Coast Path to hike for as long as they like (honestly – there’s 870 miles of path in total around the whole coastline).

Wales is famed for its castles, and your nearest here is Ogmore Castle, 10 minutes away – the Norman stone castle, part of which dates back to 1100, is still largely intact. A little further away (20 minutes from the site) is Coity Castle, which mainly dates from the 14th century and is a great place for kids to charge around and enact knights’ battles. Both of these sites are free to visit.
