  • Well-kept, family-run and friendly park on the Welsh border
  • Spectacular views of the surrounding countryside
  • On a seven-acre smallholding 15 miles from Chester
Ladies, gents, solo travellers, couples, kids and the dog have quite the pick of places to roam around when staying at popular Lady Willington Camping and Caravan Park near Whitchurch, as it's on the border of Wales, Cheshire and Shropshire with several days'/weeks' worth of activities and attractions in each. There'll be a rather warm welcome on site too from Pam, Richard and the team, who take pride in making their family-run park somewhere guests want to come back to. Lady Willington Camping and Caravan Park is on a refined, peaceful and well-maintained seven-acre smallholding, which comes with first-class vistas of the surrounding Shropshire countryside and excellently-kept amenities. The pitches are decently sized and all have their own water supply and electric. Amenities include toilets, showers and a washing-up area (these all updated for the 2021 season), plus a fridge and freezer, a kettle, a hairdryer, and a washing machine and dryer (small extra charge applies). Barbecues are allowed on site: for supplies, the market town of Whitchurch is about six miles to the east, while Wrexham is about 10 minutes' drive west.

Electric grass tent pitch (no awning)

Liked: The site is extremely well run. Clean, tidy and well maintained. We have visited a few times and its our favourite campsite.

Pam is lovely, very attentive and even let us stay an hour or so later than checkout, so out tent had a little time more to dry off after a rainy weekend.

Toilet/shower block is pristine and well stocked / maintained.

Disliked: Nothing i can think of.

From the manager: Hi David, thank you for your review and glad you enjoyed your stay. The toilets and shower unit was build during Covid close down period - something good to come out of the Covid period. See you again. Best regards Pamela and Richard

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Very clean & well maintained, toilet & shower block really nice, with dish washing facility's.
Welcoming message & how to get to the pitch with hook ups. Information on with local pubs & restaurants. Allowed BBQs .

Disliked: Noise till after 01:30 am from the lodge grounds, shrieking laughter is not what folk need to hear at that time.
Make sure you have proof of payment, contacted at 07:15 Sun morning saying I had not paid for the pitch. No reply's to messages till 13:55.

From the manager: Hi there, sorry you didn't leave your name in the review. Pleased that you appreciated the toilet and shower block. Apologies about the noise in the next door property, which is also our business. We do have rules for no noise after 10pm, but sadly, on this occasion the guests let us down and ignored the rules with their antisocial behaviour, which we have addressed with them separately. We hope you have an enjoyable summer in your van, best regards Pamela and Richard

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: This site is so pretty… where pitches are level and thoughtfully set out for privacy….(no lines of caravans )..it’s in a quiet location which gives access to many places to ride out and visit….Its our 2nd time..the amenities are very good….lots of hot water and showers/WC facilities routinely cleaned..On this occasion we weren’t greeted (but circumstances didn’t allow..no problem though as I was able to phone someone)..the owner came across to us and was really lovely and friendly…on our 1st visit we were greeted most warmly..so it’s just one of those🤷🏼‍♂️..We really love it here..My next comment is NOT a dislike…only a constructive one 🤞🤞..and it probably was only us who did it (couple of codgers )..🤣🤣..we never get the turn off..neither does the sat nav.. until after we hve passed….so then it’s drive all up to turn…but hey ho…NOT a “dislike”..hopefully we will gauge it better next visit

Liked: Lovely quiet campsite with really good facilities, which were tastefully decorated and clean. Friendly staff who were very welcoming.

Disliked: WiFi would have been good but 4g was good.

From the manager: Hi Jacquelyn, what a fantastic review, thank you so much and we look forward to seeing you again. There is really good 4G on site, but we also have WiFi (Starlink) which has excellent upload and download speeds. The internet does not cover the whole area, but is free of charge. Next time, please ask where the main WiFi unit is located. Best regards Pamela and Richard

Local attractions

This be Roman country: nearby Whitchurch was founded by the rampaging lot around the time of Caesar (the first), on a main Roman road between Chester and Wroxeter. Chester, one of the main Roman towns, is about 40 minutes' drive from Lady Willington Camping and Caravan Park and has a Roman amphitheatre to see as well as Roman remains and a museum at Dewa Roman Experience. Fans of other history periods also come to Chester to see its medieval and black and white buildings and its Grade I listed city walls, among the best preserved city walls in Britain, and the 11th-century Chester Cathedral. Back near base, stop off at the well-kept Whitchurch Heritage Centre to see some more Roman remains alongside exhibits and galleries taking the town up to modern times. Around the streets, make time too for the Clock Trail or one of the other several town trails: most fortuitously, most pass a pub… Also anciently, several castles, historic houses and National Trust properties are within conquerable driving distance – Chirk Castle, Erddig Hall in Wrexham, Combermere Abbey, Cholmondeley Castle and Bolesworth Castle just to start you off. All have regular events, including an international show jumping event at Bolesworth, and a Pageant of Power, Pony Club Championships and garden openings at Cholmondeley. Here to hike? Five long-distance walking trails start from Whitchurch's Jubilee Park, including the Shropshire Way which runs along to the Llangollen Canal, crossing the border between England and Wales. The Sandstone Trail, 34 miles through Cheshire and Shropshire, starts and finishes in the town. Other sights and sites nearby are Shrewsbury and the follies at Hawkstone Park about 20 miles away, and the early nineteenth century Pontcysyllte Aqueduct carrying the Llangollen Canal over the River Dee, a World Heritage Site with the wondrous Horseshoe Falls. Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales, is about an hour and a quarter's drive away.
