  • Accommodation on a North Wales farm on the outskirts of Minera village
  • Offa's Dyke Path 10 minutes' drive; Pontcysyllte Aqueduct 20 minutes
  • Locally sourced breakfast packs available to order on site
Have you ever been to North Wales? Whether it's your first, fourth or twelfth time, you should feel very cosy at Hafod Las. The accommodation units at this site are designed for couples or solo travellers, each with its own private area on a farm just outside of the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley National Landscape. This is a stunning setting, 10 minutes' drive away from the Offa's Dyke Path, 15 minutes from Wrexham and 20 minutes from the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. The farm is on the outskirts of the handsome little village of Minera, with excellent views of the surrounding countryside, and breakfast packs with locally sourced products are available to order on site. There's private access, off-road parking and secure storage for bikes here. If you're coming without a car, this is also a handy spot. The local bus stop is a short stroll away; hail the regular services to Wrexham town centre. (Bus timetables are available on site.) More on those accommodation units: each is equipped with a big sofa that changes into a full-size double bed to snuggle down on. The woodburner keeps all toasty on cooler nights, and there's also an outdoor dining area and barbecue.

What customers say

Guests consistently praise the shepherds hut for its comfort, cleanliness, and well-equipped interior. The stunning, peaceful setting is highlighted, with secluded outdoor space perfect for enjoying the firepit and views. The efficient log burner and excellent shower, along with thoughtful touches like local suggestions, contribute to a positive experience. One minor point raised concerned the lack of a mid-height rail on metal steps.

Shepherd's hut

Liked Everything! Very peaceful place if you want to escape from your day to day life. The hut has everything you need and more. Few nice walks from the place. You can order food for breakfast to cook. Secure space for your car. I think the most like fact was that you don't have any neighbours.

Disliked Nothing to dislike there

Shepherd's hut

Liked The location is amazing, so peaceful. The outdoor space is secluded and perfect for enjoying the sunshine and the firepit. The indoor space is very well laid out. I left the sofabed in bed position for my stay but it would have been easy to move. The shower was excellent and it truly is a benefit to have the shower and toilet within the hut. The log burner is very efficient, I used it in the mornings to take the chill off, it didn't need much timber to get the hut nice and warm.

Disliked There are metal steps leading from the parking area to the field, they are well built and not slippery, but there is no mid height rail on the barrier, only a top hand rail, which made me a little nervous as I'm rubbish with heights.

It was quiet, and cosy with lovely views and the outdoor firepit was particularly fun!

Route directions

Detailed directions and arrangements for collecting the key will be emailed to you prior to your stay. Directions from A483 Wrexham: Take the A525 towards Ruthin. After about 2 miles look out for a fuel station on your left-hand side. A short distance after this take a left turn opposite a pub called The Five Crosses, this will be signposted to Minera. You will go over a couple of speed bumps and will see the school on your left. There will be a telephone box and a bus stop in front of you and you need to take the right fork. This goes uphill and you will pass the pub on your left and church on your right. Our road (Cae Glas Lane) is first on the right after the church - just after a paddock with iron railings.

Local attractions

Wrexham, north Wales and shenanigans across the border in England are all easily reached from The Hut at Hafod Las – and you can be in Liverpool, Manchester or Snowdonia National Park within an hour. Very close to home, the ancient village of Minera and its surroundings will keep historians happy, from the pilgrimage routes trodden by monks of years gone by to the area's lead mines and quarries. Two National Trust properties within easy reach of the site and historyheads will likely be most pleased with the World Heritage Site at Pontcysyllte... Hikers will also be happy as the Offa's Dyke Path and the Clywedog Trail are both close by, as well as quiet lanes and paths; if you prefer to race around at a faster pace, a mountain bike centre is very close to Hafod Las. Birdwatchers and climbers will also find what they fancy in the area – and if you're a food fancier, the first-rate pubs and restaurants in the area should see you sorted too.
