  • Dog-friendly touring pitches at a working farm in central Anglesey
  • Rhosneigr beach 10 minutes' drive; Beaumaris and Benllech 25 minutes
  • Horses, chickens and sheep on site; pub and shop five minutes' walk
Come for the farmyard fun – stay for the walks, beach days, watersports, family attractions… Maes Carafanau Penbryn Caravan Site is part of a working farm in the village of Gwalchmai, and it’s a fabulous spot indeed for families, couples and solo visitors alike. As you may expect from a farm, there’s lovely green scenery all around here, with paths leading directly from the site to some scenic walking and bike trails. And of course there are farm animals too – this place is home to chickens, sheep, horses and ponies. Facilities here include a play area for the kids and a dog field where visiting canines can have a good run about. There’s also a well-equipped modern bathroom block with toilets, showers, an accessible/family bathroom and a washing-up area. An Elsan point and grey waste point are also provided, and there are picnic tables for your meals (perhaps cooked on a barbecue, which you’re welcome to bring along). The village centre is five minutes’ walk away for a shop, pub and bus stop. This is a rural location, but it’s also a strategic one for getting out to explore all that Anglesey has to offer. It’s fairly central within the island, and nearby access to the A5 and A55 means that it’s easy to get to whichever attractions and activities you’d like to fill your days with – even Beaumaris, at the far eastern end of the island, is only 25 minutes’ drive away.

What customers say

This is a highly recommended, immaculately clean campsite with new, modern facilities, particularly praised for its excellent showers. The owners are consistently described as friendly, welcoming, and exceptionally helpful. Pitches are spacious and well-maintained. While some minor improvements like laundry facilities are anticipated, guests found little to dislike and many expressed a strong desire to return. The location is also noted as convenient for exploring Anglesey.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Absolutely spotless brand new toilets/showers. Cleaned very regularly. Drencher shower heads and huge cubicles (free to use). The toilet block is just a long walk from the camping field (but portaloos provided on the field).

Great site facilities - fridge/freezer (but v small), washing machine, microwave etc.

Site is in a fab location and close to most areas of Anglesey. No road noise as quiet village.

Owners are very helpful and always on hand if needed, really work hard (thank you!!)

Would highly recommend and definitely stay again.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked What can I say this is one of the best if not the best I’ve visited In ‘Flo’ my folding camper the staff where ultra friendly and exceptionally helpful now the facilities wow they where spotless constantly being cleaned by staff water was perfect temperature huge cubicles and fun music playing 24/7 the pitch I had was electric with its own water tap so no lugging water carriers around everyone was friendly there’s a dedicated kids play area and quiet time from 10pm to 8 am which I thought was a really good idea

Fridge/freezer available for pitches to store food if required along with washer dryer

Local amenities where all within 5 miles of site

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Excellent weekend at Penbryn Caravan Site
Just returned from a lovely weekend at Penbryn Caravan Site and couldn't be happier with our choice. The facilities here are outstanding - the toilet and shower block is brand new and absolutely immaculate. There was always someone cleaning throughout the day, which really shows their commitment to maintaining high standards.
The pitches are spacious and well-serviced with reliable electric hook-ups, and the laundry facilities are well-equipped for longer stays. The site is well-organised with clearly marked bins for general waste and recycling.
But what made our stay special was the staff and management. From the moment we arrived, they were brilliant - friendly, welcoming, and took time to show us around and explain where everything was. Throughout our stay, we'd bump into them around the site and they were always happy to chat about what we'd been up to and suggest places to visit.
It's clearly a family-friendly site with safe areas for children and a pet-friendly policy. The location on Anglesey means there are plenty of activities nearby for all ages.
Highly recommended - we'll definitely be back!

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked We liked the size of the camp, how it’s set out. We loved that most of the camp site had a view of either the playground or the play field.
Loved that they had a dog field so our dog could be off the lead in a safe area.

Disliked We didn’t like that we could hear the expressway although I think when the trees have grown this might help quiet it down.
It was hard to get any phone signal.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked We can not speak highly enough about Penbryn Caravan Site. The site itself is a lovely size, extremely well kept and not at all noisy site. Lovely spacious and very clean toilet/shower block. Cleaned very regularly too,by Zoe and staff. Also an added extra in the utility room, which is so useful as had kettle, microwave, fridge, freezer and washing machine. Home comforts if needed,! My Husband and myself arrived at Penbryn with serious issues on our camper. Straight away Zoe and Iolo were there to help in any way that they could! Iolo came and told us about the buses which were a 5/10 minute walk away in Gwalchmai. Even better there was one an hour in both directions to Bangor snd Holyhead. This was so good for us as we could not use our camper. Zoe and Iolo were even kind and thoughtful enough to get their local mechanic Graham to come and look at our camper for us. What an amazing couple. Also big thanks to Graham. We were so grateful for their help in every way. We ended up having to be towed by The RAC too and Iolo and Zoe were so accommodating about that, they didnt make us in any way feel rushed to leave . As a new campsite they were complete naturals and clearly loving what they are doing. We wish them and all the staff who were also lovely the very best for their future venture. They certainly deserve it. We would Highly recommend this campsite. Thanks Zoe and Iolo. Pete and Jane .

Local attractions

Anglesey is an island, of course, so the coast is always a big draw. You may like to seek out natural attractions like South Stack island (25 minutes’ drive), head to beaches like Rhosneigr (10 minutes) and Benllech (25 minutes) or take a boat ride from Beaumaris (25 minutes) to Puffin Island. For walkers, there’s always the option of a jaunt along the Anglesey Coastal Path (or part of it anyway – the whole thing is about 135 miles long). The colourful surroundings of former copper mine Parys Mountain (half an hour) are also lovely to walk through, or you could head to Newborough (20 minutes) to walk through the pine forest to the beach and out to Ynys Llanddwyn. Beaumaris Castle (25 minutes) and Plas Newydd House and Gardens (20 minutes) are top picks for historic buildings to visit; for family days out, try Pili Palas Nature World (15 minutes), Anglesey Sea Zoo (25 minutes) or GreenWood Family Park (25 minutes).
