  • Peaceful rural campsite in open countryside on an Anglesey farm
  • A 15-minute drive to Trearddur Bay beach; 45 minutes from Snowdonia
  • Neolithic tombs and livestock on site; close to walks, shops and a pub
Well, history aficionados, here’s one for you. Presaddfed is a quiet and remote wild campsite set next to the remains of ancient Neolithic chamber tombs. And nature lovers should gather round too, because this site is also close to woodland walks where you might – just might – get to spot red squirrels. As this family-friendly spot is based on a secluded working farm near Bodedern on Anglesey, it’s also a given that you’ll wake up to an abundance of birdsong and livestock grazing in the next-door fields. Bodedern village (20 minutes’ walk) has a renowned butcher’s shop, a handy late-opening convenience store and a pub. If you’d like to explore further afield, jump in the car and you can be paddling in the sea at Trearddur Bay beach in 15 minutes, or hiking in Snowdonia in 45 minutes. Want to try something new? There’s clay pigeon shooting (five minutes’ walk) close by on Saturday and Wednesday, and adrenaline-thumping zipwires over water at Zip World Penrhyn Quarry (40 minutes’ drive). Back at base, the well-equipped amenities block has four private shower rooms, toilets and washing-up facilities; otherwise you’re pretty much left to your own devices. There’s only one rule: this is a peaceful spot and the owners would like to keep it that way, so please, no music or loud noise after 9.30pm.

Non-electric grass and earth campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Staff very personable
Facilities immaculate and cleaned regularly throughout day
Great location
Flat field so great for tents
Sufficient firepits and logs for all

Disliked Quiet site and staff reminded adults to turn music down by 9pm. Although we didn't mind the music being played as it wasn't loud. Screaming children after 9pm, running around, which defeated the 9pm quiet zone. I love fact children can be feral on campsites, but it did contradict the adults being told to turn music down! This was a parent issue however not the owners!

Electric grass and earth tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The campsite was tidy and mostly well kept. The on site staff where friendly welcoming.

Disliked Booking a 10amp ehu to find its split with another pitch. The lack of showers for the amount of people. The smell of sewage from the sewage treatment plant right on site. The overflowing bins as there’s only one general waste bin for the whole site. Only 2 accessible water taps one each end of the building. Poor signage to get onto site. Being cramped in to increase revenue.

From the manager: It's unfortunate and disappointing that our site did not meet the expectations of this customer but we take comfort from the overriding number of consistently excellent reviews awarded to us by the majority who acknowledge the many features that make this site special.

It clearly states at the time of booking that the selected pitch size, in this instance, is 7m x 7m. This trailer tent pitch, along with the free extras of twin side-by-side awnings and a toilet tent, far exceeded the designated pitch width to the extent that the neighbouring pitch could not access their small trailer which subsequently had to be moved.

To date, we have never had negative feedback on the proximity or adequacy of the supply of water. Our larger hardstanding and grass electric pitches, 10m x 10m, have dedicated supplies of water and electricity which would have more suitably accommodated this size of unit along with the free extras.

Generally we do not have an issue with the number of showers and the majority of our customers applaud the quality and cleanliness of the spacious family bathrooms which are maintained throughout the day. In many sectors, it is the nature of shared facilities with unallocated time slots that the traffic flow to and from the bathrooms can be unpredictable. This applies when the site is both busy and quiet.

The bins are emptied twice a week. We feel we are more than generous with the items that we allow our visitors to leave behind. Many such items do not fall into the category of normal recycling and general waste.

Despite polite notices displayed throughout the site, some customers still choose to use and dispose of wet wipes and other sanitary products in our toilets. These items in the smallest quantities block and upset the delicate balance and functioning of the organic sewage system. We maintain the system daily but interruption of the intended functioning of the system caused by wet wipes and other sanitary products combined with an unfavourable wind direction may result in an occasional smell.

Great for getting away, lovely area of Anglesey & staff were helpful.

Electric grass and earth tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Really lovely friendly chilled campsite. Location was great, off the beaten track & facilities were what we needed - clean toilet facilities attended to a few times a day, clean & warm showers, little tuck shop selling essentials & lovely hot chocolates. Patrick & staff were very friendly & accommodating.

Disliked Nothing to dislike - only small issue with chemical waste disposal having a nasty smell, probably out of the control of the camp due to very dry weather. Nobody was pitched by there, so wouldn’t be an issue for campers

Local attractions

If you’ve got a thing for high-action activities, you’ll find yourself with a fair few options. Horse riding can be tracked down in around 20 minutes, but if you’d rather set out to see what’s happening out on the big blue, RIB rides (25 minutes’ drive) and coasteering (15 minutes) are on hand for wildlife spotting and more adrenaline. Things are just as splendid up on the clifftops along the Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path (10 minutes) – over the 130 miles, you might pass sea arches, sand dunes and salt marsh, but it's up to you how far you want to go. Stop to rummage through the rockpools at Trearddur Bay beach (15 minutes), and cool off with a dip if you've worked up a sweat on your hike. If you’re feeling like a quieter day, there’s a golf course (15 minutes) for peaceful days of putting, or the Ucheldre Centre (15 minutes) runs arts and crafts events for the creative minded among you.
