  • Llyn Peninsula site with views of Moel y Gest hill
  • A five-minute drive to Black Rock Sands beach and 15 to Snowdonia
  • Within 10 minutes' drive of Porthmadog and 20 of Portmeirion
It'd be tough finding a better located north Wales site for walking than Tyddyn Adi Caravan Park on the edge of the Llyn Peninsula in Gwynedd (although there's lots to be said about touring the stunning region attempting such a feat). The site is at the bottom of the 850-foot Moel y Gest hill for roams among the rocky scenery and a half-hour wander to the scenic sweep of Black Rock Sands beach where you can join the Wales-wide coastal path. Hike along to Criccieth (or drive for 20 minutes by car) on this trail and detour up to the village castle sitting on a mound with excellent views out over the ocean; swerving in the opposite direction along Ceredigion Bay gets you a look at Harlech Castle (30 minutes’ drive) and its long sandy beach instead. Tyddyn Adi Caravan Park is also a 15 minutes from Snowdonia National Park – home to the highest peak in Wales if you’d like a serious stroll – with lots of low-key paths leading to one of the 100 or so lakes for amateur amblers too. Liking the sound of an especially laidback lope? The harbour at Porthmadog is 10 minutes’ drive away; this is also the place to go for a decent selection of shops, supermarkets, restaurants and pubs as well as access to regional buses and the Welsh Highland Railway serving other top tourist spots like Caernarfon, Beddgelert and the Aberglaslyn Pass. At the end of a day stretching the legs, the site’s a restful place to return to with its roomy, level grass pitches. Amenities include toilet facilities and showers as well as a washing-up room and a laundry service.

Liked The site was clean and tidy, easy to find, friendly staff, amazing views, if there were some people driving too fast the staff were on them straight away made me feel reassured with a young family members with me.

Disliked Showers need a revamp, (but there building a new shower block)

Electric grass and sand pitch

Liked Staff were welcoming and helpful and the location is within walking distance to black rock sands.

Disliked It's is clear that the site is undergoing renovations which is encouraging, however the choice of what to focus on first is questionable.

The driveway to the site has been freshly resurfaced with a new post and rail fence running end-to-end, there is also a new building under construction near the entrance.

Hopefully the new building is going to be a shower block as the toilet/shower facilities were incredibly tired with showers out of order and toilet completely missing. The rundown nature of the facilities made it feel very dirty and uninviting.

I'm sure a renovation of this size is very costly and time consuming however the showers and toilet facilities are the number one priority for many campers, not how smooth the tarmac is on the drive in.

I hope the renovation go well but we won't be returning for a while.

Electric grass and sand pitch

Liked The view from our tent was was lovely.
Toilets were close by so not far to go.
Level pitch site.
Very dog friendly.
Shower tokens.

Disliked Con of having the toilets close by was the bright light shining all through the night. Harsh white light. Could be sensor operated or at least a warm light.
Pitch size wasn't that big once you had your car on. We were also placed right next to a big caravan so our view was massively restricted. Could've been arranged better.
Price was a very steep for what it was.

Electric grass and sand pitch

Liked The service was very good, very helpful indeed. The amameneties where a bit dated however it's work in progress. On a scale of 1 to 10 as 10 is the best I would say a 7. We would stay again also I think the site would benefit from a shop on site.

Electric grass and sand pitch

Liked When we arrived we booked in and was directed to our allocated pitch for our stay. The pitch was on the other side of the campsite miles away from the showers and washing facility. The toilets were disgustingly filthy, no soap, no paper towels, no toilet paper and the bins were full and overflowing. The showers were filthy, doors hanging off, wildlife running around freely, disgusting.
Looks like the Tyddyn Adi Holiday Park has had some money spent but could do with a hell of a lot more. Must say that with the right management it could be a fantastic Holiday Park, but at the moment Definitely Not.

Disliked The whole campsite was filthy and neglected.

From the manager: Hi, thank you for your review.
We as the new management, have just taken over the site so we are having a lot of working done at the moment and a lot of money is currently being invested however it takes time to build the facilities that we aim for on site and we are working really hard every week to do so.

I appreciate your comments on the toilet facilities and I will pass them on to the cleaning team to aim to improve.
We do hope you visit us again in the future to see all the improvements and planning we have in place to make it a fantastic holiday park, we as new management aim for

Many thanks
Tyddyn Adi

Electric grass and sand pitch

Liked Not much. New driveway and entrance posts with new tarmac but lots of speed bumps.

Disliked The site looked tired. There were at least 4 fields with seasonal caravans on them and they looked tired. The grass wasnt kept good. The only shower block was near reception in a shed type construction with 5 showers cubicles with no where to put your clothes on, only a hook on the door, the shower ran on tokens which lastest 5 minutes. We were on a touring pitch quite a distance away from the shower blocks. There were 80 touring pitches with only a toilet block, with 3 womens and 3 mens toilets and cold water to wash your hands. And our last day there was no toilet paper. The waste bins were also outside the toilet block. The shower block was a good 5-7 minutes walk away from our pitch. There did seem to be some work being done ,a new long driveway, and a partially constructed building opposite the reception cabin.

Nice campsite with a good location, friendly staff…

Local attractions

With handsome villages, historic centres and adventure sports to seek out as well, there’s also more to do in north Wales than walk. One of the most well-known settlements of the lot is a bit further from Porthmadog at 20 minutes' drive from the park: the colourful Italian-style village of Portmeirion is famed for being both the setting of the cult ‘60s TV series The Prisoner and the early September art and music Festival N°6. For history, the Llechwedd slate caverns are 35 minutes’ drive away; here you can learn about the area’s mining culture on a tour before bouncing about on the underground trampolines. Zipwires are also available to have a go at in this centre for a little more thrill-seeking…
