  • Adults-only Gwynedd wooden lodges at the foot of Moel y Gest
  • Morfa Bychan beach 10 minutes’ walk; Portmeirion 15 minutes’ drive
  • Small shop on site; five minutes’ drive to a pub and essentials store
Set at the foot of Moel y Gest on the edge of Gwynedd’s Llŷn Peninsula and five minutes’ drive from the coastal village of Morfa Bychan, Lily’s Lodges sit within Tyddyn Adi Caravan and Camping Park. Each adults-only wooden lodge is well insulated against the elements and kitted out with a proper double bed, TV, heating, fridge, microwave, toaster and kettle. A welcome pack with all the basics (tea, coffee and so on) is there to get you started on arrival, and there’s a small hamper full of breakfast goodies too. You don’t even need to get out of bed to admire the views over trees and rugged foothills, but if you want your first caffeine fix of the day out in the fresh Welsh air, then the covered porch at the front of each lodge will keep you warm and cosy. The lodges share the main campsite’s pristine shower block, dishwasher room and laundrette service, and there’s a small on-site stop serving up a choice of hot drinks and ice creams as well as camping essentials. Pick up any forgotten supplies from the essentials store in Morfa Bychan (where there’s also a pub and a fish and chip shop), and if you have any other issues, the friendly staff at reception will be able to help you out.

Local attractions

Ten minutes’ walk from the lodges leads you to Morfa Bychan beach (known locally as Black Rock Sands, although the sand isn’t black… ), with views over to Snowdonia National Park and backed by sand dunes for long bracing walks. Alternatively, pack a picnic and drive to Harlech beach (25 minutes’ drive), where you’ll find a quiet sandy spot to eat in peace, even in summer. To up the action stakes somewhat, head for the zipwires and underground trampoline course at Zip World Llechwedd (half an hour). Fancy getting out on the water? Try out your boarding skills on consistent artificial waves at Surf Snowdonia (55 minutes) in Adventure Parc Snowdonia. To learn a bit about local industrial heritage, head for the Llechwedd Deep Mine (half an hour), where you can join guided tours of subterranean slate mines. Prefer to stay firmly above ground? Explore the weird and wonderful Italianate follies at Portmeirion (15 minutes), location of the cult 1960s’ TV series ‘The Prisoner’.

Camping pod

Liked: Lily’s Lodge was a little cracker and a great find. The lodge was so well thought out and had everything we needed under one roof. The scenery was beautiful and the site was so clean (including the toilets). Despite the rainy and very wet weather we had a great time and will back soon.
