  • Well-maintained family site just over a mile from Tywyn
  • In the Snowdonia National Park half an hour's drive from Dolgellau
  • Access to woodland walks and fishing on the Dysynni river
Calling all walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers, beachgoers… there's a lovely base for all of you at Ynysymaengwyn Caravan and Camping Park, in the grounds of a ruined old manor house in rural Gwynedd, just over a mile from Tywyn and its beach. This is a peaceful spot indeed for a break, as the pitches are surrounded by woodland where you can head out for walks (with your dog by your side if you’ve brought them along for the ride) or follow the orienteering course for a bit more of a challenge. There's also an adventure playground to keep the kids busy, plus access to the Dysynni river at the bottom of the site for anglers to fish for salmon and trout. This is a park that likes to keep things simple and relaxed rather than providing lots of entertainment, but it’s got all the essential facilities sorted including a launderette, an Elsan point and toilets and showers with accessible facilities. The location of the park is at the southern tip of the Snowdonia National Park and very close to the coast, so there’s no shortage of things to do – whether you’d like hardcore hiking or something rather more gentle. And you shouldn’t go hungry either, as Tywyn has a good collection of places to eat including cafés, chip shops, takeaways and restaurants. The town also has a supermarket and bakery if you’d rather sort your own meals back at base or pick up picnic bits.

Liked Everything. You were very quick in sending info through for pitch as we were arriving late. Nice and clean, quiet, facilities fantastic.

Disliked No shop that I could see to buy essentials or snacks considering in the middle of nowhere.

Electric optional grass tent pitch (maximum 2-berth)

Liked The camp site was clean and tidy, staff were friendly, lots of atea to pitch up, with the tent.
Lots to do with kids, nature trails in the woods. Play park, as well as a outdoor gym equipment.
Facilities were good somewhere to wash pots, refill drink water, shower block clean tidy.

Disliked The only downside is when it rained, the ground kept water on top.
As its near the sea campsite could get a little windy.

Liked Everything. Lovely site with friendly staff and laidback setting. Facilities were excellent! They were clean and was lovely there were plenty of toilets and two showers and brilliant washing up facilities. The view of the hills is beautiful and an affordable stay. Loved every minute and rebooked another stay when I got home! Looking forward to pitching up again in a couple of weeks' time!

Electric optional grass tent pitch (maximum 4-berth)

Liked This was our first longest camping trip at 7 nights, we were a little apprehensive about coming with the weather but after seeing so many amazing reviews we had to go and risk it and we’re SO glad we did. We had the best week away.

The campsite not only has your usual facilities of toilets and showers but so much more. There is a den building area, fairy garden, small grassed area away from the tents to play ball games and lovely river walk. Our children took full advantage of everything on site and we barely saw them because they were so keen to just play with other peoples children and enjoy the nature. The showers and toilet block were very clean and we never had to wait to use either, even when the site was a little busier.

The pitch sizes are very well sized and you can pick where you would like to be. We were very lucky to be next to the den building area and not once did we have any issues with noise on site. Everyone was quiet by 10-11pm.

Tywyn isn’t far from the campsite which has some shops, takeaways, and a gorgeous beach!

The views from site just added to the whole amazing experience that we had and we will definitely return!

Disliked The only downside for us personally was the lack of shops close by, there is a spar and some little corner shops within Tywyn and by the end of our stay we’d got used to going there if we needed something.

Electric optional grass tent pitch (maximum 6-berth)

Liked Beautifully kept campsite. Small and friendly. We had such a lovely stay. The location is so lovely with lots of walks. The woodland and grounds are really great for exploring. Toilet block was better than expected for a bank holiday weekend and the showers were nice. Staff are friendly and helpful. Everything was just very relaxed. We have already been talking about coming back as it's a great base for exploring the area.

Electric optional grass tent pitch (maximum 4-berth)

Liked Lovely site, friendly owners, clean showers & nice pitches. The nearby walks through the woodland was so peaceful & full of wildlife especially in the evening.
We will definitely be back.

Disliked Not a dislike but there is some road noise. You don't realise so much during the day but it can be quite loud at night. Not a deal breaker but something to be aware of.

Electric optional grass tent pitch (maximum 4-berth)

Liked We really liked the location to Tywyn that this site gave us.
The pitch that we had was spacious and we were able to choose the pitch ourselves. We had a lovely space in front of us for our son to play. We had lots of shade under the trees although we found it mostly hilarious the amount of acorns falling from the trees which sounded like pellets hitting our tent. Fine during the day but quite noisy at night when the wind picked up! :D
The shower and toilet facilities were always clean and the showers were lovely :D
The views across snowdonia national park were stunning.
The site in itself was lovely and quiet during the day, lots of children playing in the evening and the ice cream man turning up most days at about 6pm.
There was lots to do on site although we didn't stay long enough to explore - the weather was so good we spent most of it at the beach. We didn't got to the park (which looked fab) it was a few mins walk from the camping area.
We had a really lovely stay, and would definitely return however would like to be able to request a pitch next time to ensure we get a decent one again.

Disliked Although we liked being able to choose our pitch, I think we were lucky turning up at the time we did for the bank holiday weekend as lots of people turning up later in the day or the next day were driving around for a while trying to find a spot which were difficult to find and quite close to other tents.
Nothing major but a couple of extra sinks to wash up would be nice as people were queuing to do their washing.
We didn't report so can't complain too much but there were a couple of noisy campers passed the 11pm cut off - shouting etc at 12am!

Local attractions

As well as being your nearest source of food, Tywyn’s a great little seaside town with a sandy beach, miniature golf, pitch and putt and tennis courts. It’s also the starting point for the Talyllyn Railway, which runs into the countryside for a scenic ride – a particularly nice way to do it is to ride to Dolgoch and walk to its waterfall before a cuppa in the tea rooms. Walkers may like to set out on the Wales Coast Path or head inland for a wander along the shores of Tal-y-llyn lake (15 minutes’ drive), scramble up the slopes of Penygader (20 minutes) or head to the walking hub of Dolgellau (half an hour) to explore the trails around there. Mountain bikers, meanwhile, will no doubt want to tackle the trails of Coed-y-Brenin (45 minutes) while birdwatchers learn about the residents of Dyfi Osprey Project (half an hour). Once you’ve spent some time on the sands of Tywyn, head a little further along the coast to explore the dunes of Ynyslas Nature Reserve and see the petrified forest at Borth (both 45 minutes).
