  • Well-maintained family site just over a mile from Tywyn
  • In the Snowdonia National Park half an hour's drive from Dolgellau
  • Access to woodland walks and fishing on the Dysynni river
Calling all walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers, beachgoers… there's a lovely base for all of you at Ynysymaengwyn Caravan and Camping Park, in the grounds of a ruined old manor house in rural Gwynedd, just over a mile from Tywyn and its beach. This is a peaceful spot indeed for a break, as the pitches are surrounded by woodland where you can head out for walks (with your dog by your side if you’ve brought them along for the ride) or follow the orienteering course for a bit more of a challenge. There's also an adventure playground to keep the kids busy, plus access to the Dysynni river at the bottom of the site for anglers to fish for salmon and trout. This is a park that likes to keep things simple and relaxed rather than providing lots of entertainment, but it’s got all the essential facilities sorted including a launderette, an Elsan point and toilets and showers with accessible facilities. The location of the park is at the southern tip of the Snowdonia National Park and very close to the coast, so there’s no shortage of things to do – whether you’d like hardcore hiking or something rather more gentle. And you shouldn’t go hungry either, as Tywyn has a good collection of places to eat including cafés, chip shops, takeaways and restaurants. The town also has a supermarket and bakery if you’d rather sort your own meals back at base or pick up picnic bits.

Electric optional grass tent pitch (maximum 4-berth)

Liked Lovely piece of land and relatively sheltered which makes it less windy by the coast. The pitch was level and we didn’t have any difficulty getting the pegs in. Good availability of electrical points. Would highly recommend the waterfall a few minutes drive near the camp site, it was stunning. Also loved the holgates gates ice cream shop near by as well, the honey ice cream with honeycomb topping was delicious.

Disliked Slight drain smell in the bathroom but only experienced this in the male toilets. Also the showers were a press button but that is minor. Not a dislike but different to other sites we have been on, dogs needed to be on-lead.

Electric optional grass tent pitch (maximum 6-berth)

Liked This is absolutely one of the best campsites I have been to. What a beautiful location surrounded by mountains fields and rivers. This site has everything you would want from a campsite. A great size woodland walk for the dogs and kids to explore, river walks, adventure playground, ruins to explore, fairy garden, den making and much more. The toilets and showers are large enough for the site I never had to wait to have a shower or use the toilet. The showers and toilets were very clean and were constantly cleaned and maintained. The site is very clean and well maintained and the pitches are well placed and a great size we had a large 8 birth tent and gazebo there was plenty of room. The town and beach is a short walk along a path or a really picturesque walk along the river. There's everything you need in the town and some great places to visit. I highly recommend dolgoch waterfall and aberdyfi. We loved our stay and will definitely be returning again, its an exceptional campsite

Liked We loved this site, friendly manager, no one xtra charges for tent size or the amount of energy used from electricity hookups. Park for kids and clean facilities. Doesn’t overfill the site.
We liked it so much we went the next week too.

Local attractions

As well as being your nearest source of food, Tywyn’s a great little seaside town with a sandy beach, miniature golf, pitch and putt and tennis courts. It’s also the starting point for the Talyllyn Railway, which runs into the countryside for a scenic ride – a particularly nice way to do it is to ride to Dolgoch and walk to its waterfall before a cuppa in the tea rooms. Walkers may like to set out on the Wales Coast Path or head inland for a wander along the shores of Tal-y-llyn lake (15 minutes’ drive), scramble up the slopes of Penygader (20 minutes) or head to the walking hub of Dolgellau (half an hour) to explore the trails around there. Mountain bikers, meanwhile, will no doubt want to tackle the trails of Coed-y-Brenin (45 minutes) while birdwatchers learn about the residents of Dyfi Osprey Project (half an hour). Once you’ve spent some time on the sands of Tywyn, head a little further along the coast to explore the dunes of Ynyslas Nature Reserve and see the petrified forest at Borth (both 45 minutes).
