  • Family-run site in a peaceful countryside location near Aberdaron
  • Well-maintained facilities and top spot for stargazing
  • Café serving breakfast, snacks and hot meals throughout the day
Set on the very tip of the National Trust-managed Llŷn Peninsula on the north Wales coast and overlooking Bardsey Island, Ty-newydd Farm is a fenced site a mile from the coast with heaps of space for kids as well as open fields aplenty in which to fly kites or get competitive at cricket. (Sinking down with a book, particularly while the kids are safely roaming free range, would be a highly decent option of choice too.) The family running this sheltered and long established farm and campsite are landscaping and developing it in an environmentally sympathetic manner to keep in manner with the scenic surrounds. It has ladies' and gents' toilets, two spacious showers, four shower units/rooms, a disabled-friendly shower and baby changing facilities. Two washing-up sinks with free unlimited hot and cold water are just outside the shower block; a water tap and waste water disposal point are halfway down the site along with a chemical toilet point. Ty-newydd Farm also has a well-stocked café serving breakfast, snacks and hot meals throughout the day; supplies can be sorted at Aberdaron village about a mile and a half away.

What customers say

This campsite offers stunning views and a peaceful atmosphere with spacious, well-maintained pitches. Guests praised the clean facilities, particularly the hot showers, and the convenient on-site cafe. The location is ideal for exploring the surrounding countryside and coastline. While some found the site remote with limited mobile signal, most appreciated the opportunity to switch off. Minor points mentioned include shower costs and cafe opening hours, but overall visitor feedback is overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing a desire to return.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Loved the location & spaciousness of this campsite. The shower & toilet area were quite clean with no queues. There is a cafe bar which opens until 5 and we were able to get change for the showers. Such a peaceful beautiful location.

Disliked The ground was hard which made it hard to pitch up. Not their fault though, it has been a heatwave.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Pitch was well kept only plus point to not give it a 1 star

Disliked Welcome was poor made to feel like an inconvenience. Toilets had empty soap dispensers with no hand washing soap available, no loo rolls and not maintained during the stay.
Shame really as this is a great spot.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Wonderful views. Good, clean showers & toilets

Disliked Would have liked the cafe to be open in the evening as it had wonderful views of the mountains and it would have been a great spot to have an evening drink, snack or meal. We were slightly out of season, so maybe it is during high season.

Electric grass pitch

Liked The site over all was neat, had useful facilities and was quiet during the week.

Disliked The facilities, toilets, showers and washing up, didn't appear to be cleaned or maintained the whole week we were there. At about day 3 of 7 most of the toilets were out of toilet roll and this was not topped up until the weekend. By the time we left on day 7 the food waste bins in the washing up area still had food in them from day one and this was starting to smell. There were leaves and debris on the floor of the showers that never moved. Admittedly it was quiet on site, but this was pretty bad.
The atmosphere of the site was quiet in the week as most pitches were taken up by long term caravans. However, once these caravan tenants arrived we found them pretty hostile and couldn't walk by to the toilet without being stared at.
Finally both the toilet block and including the shower area has NO windows, not even a skylight. As someone who suffers mildly with claustrophobia this was horrible and I had to use the family showers with my partner to stay calm. Not something everyone would think of, so not really a criticism of the owners, but one for those with the same phobia to consider.

Liked Really friendly welcome. Lovely cafe on site open 10-4.30 serving a wide range of foods:
WiFi available in the cafe.
Facilities good and clean. Showers 50p but powerful, hot and quite long.
Pitches well maintained
Campsite in a beautiful spot.

Disliked My only downside was that the toilets were a quite long walk from the pitch. There seem to a be a lot of permanent caravans closest which means that tents and motor homes have quite a trek.

Local attractions

The lovely Llŷn Peninsula is a stellar spot for walking, birdwatching, rock fishing and wildlife watching as well as stargazing: Ty-newydd Farm is in a highly rural area with very little street lighting and no industry (that means very clean air too). The clear night skies around the farm and the peninsula have been lauded by astronomers as the clearest they've ever seen in the UK, so settle down here of an evening to spy planets, millions of stars and even the occasional flaring comet… Local walks are sorted directly from the site to Aberdaron via the Mynydd Mawr monument at the top of the headland – you could miss out the Mynydd Mawr part of the walk if you're doing it in the evening to take in the also stellar sunset sinking down over Bardsey Island. If you're off to Aberdaron, have a hunt for St Mary’s Well or Ffynnon Fair, the freshwater spring at the foot of the Mynydd Mawr cliffs. It's covered by sea water twice a day, but you wouldn't know that by tasting it: bring and fill a bottle or two to take back home. And as you're this close to the north Wales coast, days out at the local beaches should also be hunted down: have them at Aberdaron, Abersoch, Porth Neigwl, Pwllheli…
