Ty-newydd Farm: Spacious pitches

General

  • Family-run site in a peaceful countryside location near Aberdaron
  • Well-maintained facilities and top spot for stargazing
  • Café serving breakfast, snacks and hot meals throughout the day

Set on the very tip of the National Trust-managed Llŷn Peninsula on the north Wales coast and overlooking Bardsey Island, Ty-newydd Farm is a fenced site a mile from the coast with heaps of space for kids as well as open fields aplenty in which to fly kites or get competitive at cricket. (Sinking down with a book, particularly while the kids are safely roaming free range, would be a highly decent option of choice too.)

The family running this sheltered and long established farm and campsite are landscaping and developing it in an environmentally sympathetic manner to keep in manner with the scenic surrounds. It has ladies' and gents' toilets, two spacious showers, four shower units/rooms, a disabled-friendly shower and baby changing facilities.

Two washing-up sinks with free unlimited hot and cold water are just outside the shower block; a water tap and waste water disposal point are halfway down the site along with a chemical toilet point.

Ty-newydd Farm also has a well-stocked café serving breakfast, snacks and hot meals throughout the day; supplies can be sorted at Aberdaron village about a mile and a half away.

Please note

A charge of £0.50 applies for the use of the shower.

Camp site friendly and clean lots of space on the pitch. You are allowed to have a fire pit😀😃🙂. Some of the best country side views in the UK, we know now where they should have filmed Lord of the rings.
Even the drive in on the lane was nice but narrow.

    Disliked:

It's the same reason the site is so great, narrow lane to get there.

We had a wonderful stay at Ty-newydd Farm. Fabulous sea views, fisherman's cove within walking distance and the most amazing sunset i have ever seen. This is a lovely family run site and they couldn't do enough for us. Wonderful café with home made delicious food including Bara brith which Marian very kindly made us one to take home, its delicious.
The showers, toilets and all the facilities were spotless throughout our stay. We will definitely be back.

Flat pitches in the non-electric camping field.

    Disliked:

No views from the tent field. Used as a football pitch for all the kids from the other, fuller, fields. Trek to the showers which are as far away as you can get. And, as has been said, 50p for five minutes. I made a mistake on Pitchup and cancelled the booking. On re-booking I was charged twice for one night! No refund was offered so I payed almost £40 for a single night. Not impressed!

Great family run farm - they are really easy going and not so many rules like other campsites. Brilliant during the covid period - the bathrooms were clean and welcoming. Although the facilities are basic with still the traditional 20p slot showers or 50p ones, this wasn't a problem once we got used to using them. The café had plenty of change to swap notes for the showers.
There was lots of young families onsite at the time of our visit as well as couples of different ages. The farm is nearly at the very tip of the peninsula and was very peaceful and quiet. If its a nature sanctuary you are looking for this is it! It was a drive out to towns or other places but we didn't need to with a small village 5 minutes drive away and beautiful nature - we could have stayed longer!
The family did a great job running the café on site and were all very helpful.
We had a fantastic stay and we will be returning!

Local attractions

The lovely Llŷn Peninsula is a stellar spot for walking, birdwatching, rock fishing and wildlife watching as well as stargazing: Ty-newydd Farm is in a highly rural area with very little street lighting and no industry (that means very clean air too).

The clear night skies around the farm and the peninsula have been lauded by astronomers as the clearest they've ever seen in the UK, so settle down here of an evening to spy planets, millions of stars and even the occasional flaring comet…

Local walks are sorted directly from the site to Aberdaron via the Mynydd Mawr monument at the top of the headland – you could miss out the Mynydd Mawr part of the walk if you're doing it in the evening to take in the also stellar sunset sinking down over Bardsey Island.

If you're off to Aberdaron, have a hunt for St Mary’s Well or Ffynnon Fair, the freshwater spring at the foot of the Mynydd Mawr cliffs. It's covered by sea water twice a day, but you wouldn't know that by tasting it: bring and fill a bottle or two to take back home.

And as you're this close to the north Wales coast, days out at the local beaches should also be hunted down: have them at Aberdaron, Abersoch, Porth Neigwl, Pwllheli…

Must see

  • Criccieth Castle (23.2 miles)
  • CADW - Harlech Castle (27.1 miles)
  • Welsh Highland Railway (Porthmadog) (27.4 miles)

National Trust

  • Plas yn Rhiw (5.7 miles)
