General

  • Family-run campsite near Aberdaron
  • Well-maintained facilities
  • Peaceful countryside location

Set on the very tip of the National Trust-managed Llŷn Peninsula on the north Wales coast and overlooking Bardsey Island, Ty-Newydd Farm is a fenced site a mile from the coast with heaps of space for kids as well as open fields aplenty in which to fly kites or get competitive at cricket. (Sinking down with a book, particularly while the kids are safely roaming free range, would be a highly decent option of choice too.)

The family running this sheltered and long established farm and campsite are landscaping and developing it in an environmentally sympathetic manner to keep in manner with the scenic surrounds. It has ladies' and gents' loos, two spacious showers, four shower units/rooms, a disabled-friendly shower and baby changing facilities.

Two washing-up sinks with free unlimited hot and cold water are just outside the shower block; a water tap and waste water disposal point are halfway down the campsite along with a chemical loo point.

Ty-Newydd Farm also has a well-stocked café serving breakfast, snacks and hot meals throughout the day; supplies can be sorted at Aberdaron village about a mile and a half away.

Please note

A charge of 20p or 50p applies for the use of shower.

Flat pitch with plenty of room

    Disliked:

No phone signal. Internet did not work despite charge. At least an hour's walk from Aberdaron - much more than the stated mile and a half. Very narrow lane access with limited passing points. Hook up is low power so no kettle.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review.

Just for information for potential customers/campers reading this review.

Our local village is 2 miles from the site which would take about 5 min if that in a car, or if you are walking then a good half an hour to three quarters along the road. You can also walk the costal path to the village which would take you a few hours.

Phone network that work in the area are EE and Vodafone and any other networks that use the mast of these two will also work, but as we are at the very end of the Llyn Peninsula so we don't get 3g/4g etc

There is a virtural travel on the bottom of our website which shows you how to get to our site. Please look ahead when driving here as there are several passing places, so if you look ahead you should be able to see if there is anything coming towards you. Also as it states on the website all the pitches have a 6amp so we do advice that you make sure your camping equipment is suitable for this e.g camping kettle not a household kettle.

Wifi at the site is limited to around the cafe area.

    Friendly, family run site.
Plenty of open space for the children to play.
    Well-priced.

    Disliked:

Although the toilets and showers were clean, there was quite a smell from the gents toilet which shared the same block as the women's toilets and often both doors were left open.

The campsite had everything we required
Amazing views and such friendly staff
Would recommend the coastal walk form the campsite which we did with 3 children (one being 3 who would not let us carry him and wanted to walk most of the way)
Toilets were constantly stocked with toilet roll and soap
Cleanliness of showers was great, also didn't mind paying the 20p to the cost of the shower. Think it makes sense.
    Could not fault this place.
    Thanks

Local attractions

The lovely Llŷn Peninsula is a stellar spot for walking, birdwatching, rock fishing and wildlife watching as well as stargazing: Ty-Newydd Farm is in a highly rural area with very little street lighting and no industry (that means very clean air too).

The clear night skies around the farm and the peninsula have been lauded by astronomers as the clearest they've ever seen in the UK, so settle down here of an evening to spy planets, millions of stars and even the occasional flaring comet...

Local walks are sorted directly from the site to Aberdaron via the Mynydd Mawr monument at the top of the headland – you could miss out the Mynydd Mawr part of the walk if you're doing it in the evening to take in the also stellar sunset sinking down over Bardsey Island.

If you're off to Aberdaron, have a hunt for St Mary’s Well or Ffynnon Fair, the freshwater spring at the foot of the Mynydd Mawr cliffs. It's covered by sea water twice a day, but you wouldn't know that if you tasted the water: bringing and fill a bottle or two to take back home.

And as you're this close to the north Wales coast, days out at the local beaches should also be hunted down: have at it at Aberdaron, Abersoch, Porth Neigwl, Pwllheli...
