  • Well-maintained and family site on the Llŷn Peninsula
  • Five minutes' stroll down the lane from a family pub serving food
  • Within a mile of the beaches of Morfa Nefyn and Nefyn
Beach or castle, steam train or Segway? What splendid dilemmas you’ll have on this wild spot in north Wales. ‘Snowdon’s arm’ they call the Llŷn Peninsula, a stretch of coastline quite distinct from the Irish Sea and Cardigan Bay either side. The clifftops are dotted with castles and Iron Age hill forts, the beaches wide and sandy and a magnet for families, while the coasts and hills are a haven for wildlife. Twnti Touring Caravan and Camping Park is a tiptop base to start exploring the area. You won’t find hot tubs and rope swings here; proprietor Bethan knows exactly what people come to the Llŷn Peninsula for. People want a comfortable stay of course, and that’s taken care of with a laundry, communal fridge-freezer and a disabled/family washroom. For those arriving back footsore, thirsty and famished from a day’s wanderings, five minutes' walk by footpath takes them from the site to the welcoming Bryn Cynan pub, serving fresh food and local ales (and furnished with a kids’ playground too). A mile and a half away, it's worth the wander to get to the famed pub on the beach of Ty Coch Inn. Once you’ve got your strength back, further paths lead down to the beaches of nearby Morfa Nefyn, a two-mile-long sandy crescent set up for sandy walks, castle building and beach napping, while windsurfers and kitesurfers zip across the waves beyond.

Electric optional grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: Bethan was lovely warm and welcoming. Facilities clean, tidy and not too far from the pitches. Location spot on, shops in walking distance and pub right on the doorstep. All very dog friendly Which was great. My dog’s first time camping ideal place to take him, not overwhelmed by too many people and tents for him. Spar, cafe and chip shop in walking distance. Ty Coch pub is about 5 mins drive to the car park with is 5.00 and then is a lovely coastal walk about 20 mins to reach the pub. Pwllheli is the closest town by car 10 mins there’s plenty of shops there Asda home bargain cost coffee.Local chippy Ty Cod well worth a visit very popular but worth it. Campsite is signed posted by the main road. Electric hook up optional and not overpriced. Will be going back with the dog.

Disliked: On our last day was very wet and rained but that’s the Welsh weather for you!!!

Electric optional grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: Stayed on a grass pitch with optional electric (which we did not use). Lovely location with some nice walks. Toilets and showers were clean. I didn't use the showers which were £1 for 6 min, using our own instead.

Disliked: The grass pitches can be subject to strong winds but it's not their fault that it gets windy on the Llyn peninsula.

Electric optional grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: Small & friendly camp site in a pretty spot just outside Morfa Nefyn village. Lovely outlook from our pitch across to the hill & valley. Cheery welcome from John who settled us in & provided helpful info about location, amenities & importantly - the pub on the beach & the one next door to the campsite! Large, dog-proof field to use on-site to exercise our mutts. Clean, modern shower block & loos. You need £1 coins for the 6-mins shower (which is ample time). The walk to the beach is a good 40mins but very pretty, level & worth the effort. The gem in the crown for this camping stay has to be Morfa Nefyn bay and the incredible Ty Coch pub-on-the-beach. We were so lucky with the weather & got a proper Welsh Riveria experience! I even swam in the Irish Sea! The pub itself does fab craft beers etc. Food-wise it is largely sandwiches, wraps etc. And we didn’t consider it over-priced given its special uniqueness.

Disliked: The camp spot we were on was slightly exposed and so quite windy. But the views outweighed this in my view.

Local attractions

From the beach at Morfa you’ll have fine views of the Iron Age hill fort of Garn Bodwan, a five-minute drive or 45-minute walk away. It’s a reminder that this coast has been fought for, prized and defended for thousands of years, and you’ll soon find out why. For walks further afield, the Llŷn Coastal Path stretches for 91 miles between Caernarfon and Porthmadog, with ample opportunities for descending via steps and paths to dip your toes in the seas below. You could do the trip a slightly easier way, heading 50 minutes to Caernarfon or 40 to Porthmadog by car, then settling back in a seat on the West Highlands Railway, to puff your way through 25 miles of views and steam heritage. If you like a faster ride, Glasfryn Park Activity Centre (20 minutes) has pretty much the lot, from go-karts and Segways to wakeboarding and ten-pin bowling. A 25-minute drive away at Hafan y Mor, the Ropeworks centre gets you high among the treetops, and 50 minutes away you can try thrills with an eco-twist at Greenwood Forest Park, including the world’s only people-powered rollercoaster, a 70-metre sledge run and solar-powered waterchute.
