  • Family-friendly smallholding in a rural location on the Llŷn Peninsula
  • Spectacular views towards the peak of Moelypenmaen
  • Lots of open space for kids to play
Get back to nature among spectacular surroundings with a stay at Gwynedd's Rhos Y Foel, in the middle of the Llŷn Peninsula a short drive from more lush landscapes at Snowdonia National Park. Set with views towards the rocky peak of Moelypenmaen, Rhos Y Foel is a small and family-friendly site, with a wide swathe of open space on which the kids can let loose. Well-behaved dogs are welcome. Rhos Y Foel is a level and almost completely flat site – no uncomfy bumpy groundsheet nights here – and has a facilities block with hot running water. Off-ground barbecues are allowed and firepits are available on site: for supplies, the local village is Boduan and the shops and services of market town Pwllheli are a few miles away.

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked Great site and set up. Small site but really well thought out. Beautiful views and peaceful but still in a good location for the local beaches etc. Toilets and showers were well kept and always clean. The lady who runs the site is always on hand to offer help.

Disliked Nothing, everything was perfect

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Absolutely amazing campsite, we visited this campsite about 6 years ago and haven't had the chance to return until recently. Lots of really good improvements. The hard standing pitches are great with plenty of space and a good green space long side the hard standing pitch. Plenty of space for kids to play. Great views of surroundings area. Very clean and good facilities. Particularly impressed with the staff who were there to greet us after we arrived and we're very helpful. Unfortunately there was a group that weren't abiding by the rules of the campsite but the management were very quick to respond and dealt with the situation in a polite and respectful manner. We will definitely be returning very soon. Excellent campsite, close to great beaches and well maintained. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.

Electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Our first trip to Wales and it did not disappoint.

The site was fantastic and we enjoyed every minute of our 7 night stay.

It was immaculate, the toilets and showers were always clean with regular checks throughout the day by staff.

The 10pm “quiet time” was reassuring for our young family and the staff acted if there were any issues. The kids had an amazing time and made lots of friends.

Martha, the warden is an absolute gem and my little lad loved collecting the camp fire wood with her.

I have already signed up for next year alerts for when the dates are released.

Thank you for a lovely week.

Electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked What a gem this place is. Great location, clean and accessible facilities, stunning views and a super helpful host. Nice large pitches and a reasonable 10pm "quiet time" rule.
Also loved that you could hire a firepit and buy logs from here.

Disliked My only gripe (and its a small one...)
We didn't have much mobile reception so our phones were pretty redundant. Maybe its a vodafone thing. With this, we hoped the site would have wi-fi but sadly it didn't. It was only really an issue as our daughter (autism / ADHD ) has hyper fixations and sometimes needs some quiet youtube time to deregulate.

Local attractions

As you'll know if you've ever had the sense to go there, the Llŷn Peninsula is lovely land, with sea all around as it jabs 30 miles into the Irish Sea from north-west Wales's tip. Rhos Y Foel is in an excellent setting to get to the best of its hills and coast in the site surrounds, and to explore the mountains and other highlights of Snowdonia a short drive away. Around the peninsula, have seaside days at resorts like Abersoch, Nefyn, Morfa Nefyn and Pwllheli, all just a few miles away, or get active with afternoons among the wakeboarding, bowling, quad biking, go karting and fishing of Glasfryn Parc nearby at Pwllheli; soft play, food, a farm shop and a bar are at this latter as well. Paintball is nearby if you want to take things up a notch. Another top local option for families is the award-winning GreenWood Forest Park, where you can paddle among trees, make things work at the world's only people-powered rollercoaster, see a live show, meet the animals or try den building and archery. More animal meeting is at Dwyfor Rabbit Farm, or drive to the foot of Snowdonia for a more active family day out at Gypsy Wood. The famed 18-hole Nefyn & District Golf Club at Porthdinllaen is only a few minutes from the site.
