Glampio Coed Glamping: Exterior of the pod

General

  • Luxury, cosy wooden pods on a peaceful Llyn Peninsula site
  • A 10-minute drive from Porthor beach; 25 minutes from Pwllheli
  • Woodburning stoves, Welsh wool blankets and firepits for keeping warm

Stay warm whatever the weather may choose to deliver at Glampio Coed Glamping – this collection of smart wooden pods is in a two-acre field on the Llyn Peninsula, 10 minutes’ drive from sandy beaches and coastal walks, and 25 minutes from Pwllheli.

For a comfy and cosy stay, each of the handmade wooden units is kitted out with lots of lovely little touches including luxury bed linen, Welsh wool blankets, a woodburning stove and hot water bottles.

Guests are also treated to a hamper of local produce on arrival and can prep a good breakfast using the communal kitchen’s kettle, microwave, toaster and gas hob. Firepits and barbecues are on hand for outdoor cooking, plus there’s wood for sale on site and supermarket supplies are 10 minutes away in Aberdaron (along with cafés and a chip shop if you need more immediate munchies). A wood-fired pizza is on hand at the site, along with a small bar selling local Welsh beers and ciders, so there's also the option of a pint and a pizza in a quiet area of the forest.

With only a handful of guests on site at one time there’s plenty of space to chill out here, taking in the country views by day and starry skies at night. If you’re in need of a bit more activity, have a word with the folk running the park about their Airsoft outdoor games site or head out locally for watersports, golf, go-karting and horse riding, all of which are within a half-hour drive.

Friendly site, excellent facilities, warm, comfy pods26/09/2020

Very friendly and warm welcome from Nia and Allun, which fostered a friendly site over all.
The pod was clean and had exactly what we had been expecting in it, the bedding is fabulous! Under floor heating was efficient and quick to heat up the pod, though the dogs weren’t too sure about sleeping on a heated floor!
Facilities block was very well maintained, clean and the kitchen especially well stocked with equipment to make cooking on the wet day really easy.
The site is within easy reach of great beaches and walks too.

    Disliked:

Not so much dislikes as things for people to note:
Most of the pictures on Pitch up show the pods only on the field but the site is also a Caravan club CL so there were a few caravans on the other side of the field (no problem but gave the site a different feel from lids only), and bc the pods face into the centre, you on view when you are outside which is no problem when it’s quiet but might bother some campers when the site is full.

The sofa bed doesn’t work well as a sofa! It’s very slidey so I ended up on the floor while watching TV!

There loads of things included in the fee and that made it so much easier to get on with our stay but the 20p/£1 for the shower felt like it didn’t fit with the overall ethos of the site. I appreciate that you need to keep an eye on wasting hot water and to prevent people leaving water running but I’m sure there’s another system? Maybe switching to tokens and leaving a few of these in each pod so guests aren’t looking for change perhaps.

Oh, there is one negative point: the fridge wasn’t properly cleaned when we arrived, there was milk spilled on the bottom of it so might be worth a second check

A little piece of heaven. This is our third stay, and I we can't fault it.
A beautiful, clean, well run site with lovely friendly owners Nia and Alan.
They have really thought of everything from the pods which are so well equipped with fire pit, bbq, not to mention all the utensils in the pods and in the kitchen, comfy beds and thoughtful extras on arrival!
Cant wait to visit again next year!

Local attractions

Pretty Porthor beach – also known as Whistling Sands for the squeaking noise its surface makes as you walk across it – is 10 minutes’ drive from this park for windy walks or sunbathing sessions (depending on the prevailing climate).

If you’d rather ride than roam, hitch yourself up on one of the horses at the stables 15 minutes’ drive away or learn how to sail in the popular Llyn Peninsula resort of Abersoch (20 minutes). For yet more watersports, as well as inland activities like go-karting and bowling, get over to Glasfryn Park (half an hour). Planning on skirting the seaside as much as possible? Boat trips towards Bardsey Island leave from Pwllheli (25 minutes).

If you’re intending to venture off the peninsula for a trek or two, speed over to Snowdonia National Park and walk up Wales’ highest peak (50 minutes’ drive), stopping off at the hilltop Criccieth Castle (40 minutes) for sweeping views over the local village and coast along the way. Those who want jaunts on gentler paths can idle around the Italianate village of Portmeirion (55 minutes) with its colourful houses and landscaped greenery instead.

Must see

  • Criccieth Castle (19.2 miles)
  • Welsh Highland Railway (Porthmadog) (23.4 miles)
  • Ffestiniog Railway (23.5 miles)

National Trust

  • Plas yn Rhiw (2.6 miles)
