  • Among spectacular scenery on the Llŷn Peninsula
  • Two and a half miles from Porthor or the Whistling Sands
  • Excellent amenities and fenced field for play
Surf, sea and whistling sands… bring the crew to the family site of Bryn Llan Caravan and Camping. This lovely little Llŷn Peninsula site is a couple of miles from Porthor or the Whistling Sands, a long length of beach hailed by the Bryn Llan owners as the best on all the peninsula (the whistling comes from the sound the sand particles make when walked upon; for added mirth, don't let the kids know this beforehand). Porthmor's also a top spot for Llŷn Peninsula surfing as it's more secluded and less busy than Hells Mouth just along the coast, and is under 10 minutes' drive from the surfing and bodyboarding waves of Aberdaron. You can sort boat trips across to Bardsey Island from Porth Meudwy near Aberdaron; elsewhere around the region, a beach, harbour, marina and more Bardsey boats are at Pwllheli within 25 minutes, and Snowdonia National Park is under an hour to the east. There are spectacular views from the site (on a clear day you should be able to see all the way to Ireland), and a handsome setting with spacious grass pitches, room to roam and a fenced field for safe and secure play. Amenities include well-kept toilets and free hot showers; a washing-up area and chemical disposal. Food pubs, a bakery, café and a newsagent are at Aberdaron. For other supplies, a market runs twice a week in Pwllheli.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: *New to camping* My grown up daughter, her dog and I stayed for 2 nights in a tent. The pitch was level and had a water tap and electric 16amp hook up. The area is quiet and rural. The nearest village is Aberdaron, aprox 3 miles away, this is a seaside village with a shop, spar, pub, ice cream and gift shops with a huge beach where dogs are allowed on. Pwllheli is a 30 min drive away. The camp site has a good sized clean shower and toilet block. There is a room for washing up. There is a patio area with tables and a small bar with a bar snacks and breakfast menu. Drinks and food are reasonably prices. Accepts card or cash payments. The owner was friendly and helpful. There is an old school bus on site with an air hockey table and giant jenga. WiFi worked in our tent. We wanted a quiet and relaxed weekend and that was exactly what we got. We would recommend this site.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Lovely stay at Bryn Llan. After a personal issue at home, the owner swapped our dates without hesitation and after that also let us arrive an extra day earlier. Play bus on site and on-site bar open if you wanted. Also saw a bouncy castle ?? (Deflated) on touring pitch. Lovely clean hot showers and clean toilets, quiet location , friendly owner and great views.

Disliked: Nothing

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Stayed over the weekend. Was a lovely site and everything was close by and easy to access. The on site bar and bus is really cool and good price on drinks. Guy was really welcoming and friendly and was able to give recommendations and directions to local places. We walked from the site to Aberdaron which took about 1.15hours and the beach was beautiful as was the local area. The site was clean and easy to access everything and the dog loved it. Would more than happily return, even just to watch the sunset over the trees again.

Local attractions

Hidden and secluded beaches are plentiful around the peninsula, including the site's nearest of Whistling Sands a short drive away. Managed by the National Trust, this peaceful beach is also home to a good variety of wildlife such as razorbills, shags and kittiwakes, as well as seals (best spotted while bodyboarding in the waves) and – with luck – dolphins. Pick up a wildlife trail leaflet at the beach cabin in spring and summer to see what you can spot. Also close by, take the boat to Bardsey Island for more wildlife watching: the isle is famed as a a nesting site for Manx shearwaters and choughs, and seals and dolphins can usually be spotted in the surrounding waters. Take one of the marked paths around the island to explore, or drop into Bardsey's school for an exhibit on Bardsey Island history and community.
