Pitch

  • Remote wild camping with spectacular Cadair Berwyn views in Gwynedd
  • Eryri National Park 15 minutes’ drive and Llangollen half an hour
  • Grass pitches on a working sheep farm; pub about 15 minutes’ walk
There’s remote and then there’s really remote. If you’re after the latter, make a beeline for Gadlas Wild Camping, 15 minutes’ drive from Bala in Gwynedd, North Wales. Here there are four meadows set aside for ‘proper’ wild camping on a 40-acre working sheep farm; the small number of pitches all have spectacular views towards the Cadair Berwyn mountains and on clear days you can see Llyn Tegid in the distance too. Facilities only stretch to composting loos, so you’ll need to bring in all your vital stuff – drinking water, torches and food for starters, and barbecue kits if you’re going down the self-catering route. To add a touch of adventure to your Welsh escape, the pitches can only be accessed by four-wheel drive, although the farm owners do offer a quad-and-trailer service to take you and all your gear to your pitch. And remote most certainly doesn’t mean nothing to do. All the walking, hiking, biking and climbing offerings of Eryri National Park are but 15 minutes’ drive away, Bala has shops, cafés and a watersports centre, and there’s a pub about 15 minutes’ stroll from the pitches.

Non-electric grass and earth motorhome pitch

Liked Amazing, peaceful stay and exactly what we were looking for. A lovely back-to-basics campsite in a beautiful, quiet setting well away from the road. With virtually no light pollution, it was perfect for sitting out and stargazing at night. The hosts were really friendly and welcoming too. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a peaceful, no-frills escape in a stunning location.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Lots of space, great area, good fire pits. Couldn’t ask for anything else for the price. Pub is walkable distance but it’s more of a 30 minute walk. Thanks

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked I had an amazing stay at Gadlas Wild Camping last night and couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Although I arrived late, Rhonwen and her husband made me feel incredibly welcome from the moment I arrived. They even offered to make me a cup of tea, which was such a thoughtful touch after a long journey. Mr Broom was also very helpful and kindly showed me to my pitch.

The campsite itself is absolutely beautiful, with stunning views and a peaceful atmosphere – the perfect place to unwind and enjoy nature.

I did struggle to find the campsite at first, but when I called, Mrs Broom was so kind and reassuring. She quickly put my mind at ease and guided me in, which I really appreciated.

I would 100% recommend Gadlas Wild Camping to anyone looking for a friendly, welcoming place to stay with breathtaking scenery. I'll definitely be returning, and next time I'll be bringing my son so he can experience it too. Thank you for such a wonderful stay

Disliked The fact I got their late wich was fault of my own

Liked The space, the wilderness, not having to worry about waking people up in the morning etc. The owners were really lovely and despite being in the middle of nowhere the compost toilet was so clean and tidy. Lovely spot will definitely be back.
