  • Pop-up farm campsite with woodland views in Denbighshire, North Wales
  • Kinmel Bay 15 minutes’ drive; Llandudno and Conwy Castle half an hour
  • Dog-friendly off-grid site; pub and basics shop five minutes’ drive
A peaceful north Welsh farm stay between a national park and an area of outstanding natural beauty? What’s not to like? Set on a vast, level camping field lined by mature trees, Moore Manor Campsite sits between Eryri National Park (half an hour’s drive) and the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley AONB (10 minutes) – pitch up here and you’ll have gorgeous views as your constant companion as well as plenty of outdoors adventures close by. With just a handful of pick-your-own pitches, this is a simple pop-up site with basic amenities stretching to a portable toilet and waste disposal, best-suited to self-sufficient campers, motorhome owners and caravaners with their own facilities. There isn’t any power on the field, so pack torches for after-dark wanderings. What you do get, however, is a well-maintained and safe field for kids and any family dogs to have a run around and play. There’s an outdoor picnic area for times when the weather’s behaving, and a converted double-decker bus with indoor seating to take care of the odd drizzly day. You can pick up supplies from the essentials store in Trefnant (five minutes), which also has a pub (with a kids’ playground outside) and a fish and chip shop.

From the manager: Ah - we are sorry you didn’t enjoy your stay with us. We did try to advertise the site as it was - a field with a portaloo - We hope you find somewhere better suited for yourselves on your next trip to North Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Non-electric grass and earth tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Very quiet location well away from any big roads. Picnic tables provided. Large area for camping. Not busy at all when we went (although was 1st night open I think?). Nice views and surroundings. Handy as somewhere to stay when coming from northern England heading to Eryri/Snowdonia. Arrived very late (~22:30) but we were still met and welcomed by hosts.

Disliked: Have stayed at other sites with same or more facilities but more lower cost, but still it wasn't particularly expensive. 1 big totally unlit field might pose safety concerns if we didn't have a car to park next to our tent i.e. no separation between path of incoming/outgoing vehicles in the dark and our small green tent!

From the manager: Yes it was our first night open. I totally agree about the lighting. I did add more lights for the Saturday evening when I realised how dark it was Friday ! But still not enough. We are hoping to have electric to the site by next season and EHU, toilet block, cafe, and separation for pitches. We are thankful for your lovely review though as we are new. We already have contractors in putting a road system in place. We hope you come back next season to see the improvements. 🏕️

Local attractions

Beaches beckoning? If you’re all keen to get out on the waves, head to Kinmel Bay (15 minutes’ drive) for windsurfing and kayaking expeditions. Backed by cafés, the sandy stretch at Rhyl Beach (20 minutes) is a good choice for families – you can keep the kids entertained with a visit to the reef sharks and seals at SeaQuarium Rhyl, and if the weather turns, whizz into the Sun Centre for youngsters to have a play on the indoor water slides. Spend a day in Llandudno (half an hour) pottering along the promenade, getting messy with the kids at the Chocolate Experience, or jumping on the cable cars to travel up to the top of Great Orme Country Park for spectacular Irish Sea views – before getting back down to sea level again via the dry ski slope. If you loved walking the battlements at 13th-century Conwy Castle (half an hour), cross the Menai Bridge (45 minutes) to the Isle of Anglesey. Once there, explore the keep and chapel of moated Beaumaris Castle (55 minutes) and the formal gardens of Plas Newydd House and Gardens (50 minutes).
