  • Peaceful farm site with stunning views of the Clwydian Range
  • A 20-minute drive from Moel Famau; just under an hour from the coast
  • Well-equipped shared kitchen, plus firepits and chimineas to hire
Peaceful? Scenic? Very much so. This Denbighshire site is a place to settle down at for both, with added views out over the Clwydian Range Area of Natural Beauty. The vibe is decidedly rural at Clwydian Holidays, a relaxed and spacious site 15 minutes’ drive from Ruthin – as you might expect from a site on a family-run working farm. Days can be easily filled with walks, mountain bike outings, watersports, fishing and other such outdoorsy antics, while evenings on site are a prime time to light up a barbecue or cuddle up by a firepit or chiminea (both available to hire on site) while aiming your gaze up at the starry skies (fingers crossed for cloudless nights…) At times when it’s not barbecue weather (it’s Wales, it can happen…), retreat to the custom-built kitchen, which has been kitted out with an oven, hob, fridge, toaster and kettle, plus a dining table for indoor eats. Also on site are plenty of open space for kids to run about and play games, plus a toilet block with three showers and a wash basin area.

Camping pod

Liked: Everything was great we had a lovely weekend here. Rose and Ray are both welcoming and available if you need anything. The kitchen and lounge area are a great idea and very nice to have the use of. Also beautiful walks straight from the pitch with nice views, a cave and rope swings.

Disliked: Nothing

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: We had an excellent night's stay at Clywidian Holidays Campsite. We originally booked a pitch for our tent but chose to upgrade to one of their pods. On arrival, Ray greeted us and was so friendly and welcoming. He gave us a personal tour of the site and showed us around all the facilities. We made the decision to upgrade to the pod after his tour seeing how clean and well-kept everything was. The campsite had everything you could need including the cleanest shower and toilet block we think we'd ever seen at a campsite. There is a lovely conservatory area with a seating area and games if you want to relax, as well as a kitchen room with all the facilities you could need. We chose to have our tea at the Leyland Arms about 1 mile from the site - food was amazing especially the fish and chips and cajun chicken burger. Our pod was so spacious, clean and included a double bed, 2 single bed/couches, separate toilet, mini kitchen area, fridge and tea and coffee facilities. Overall we absolutely loved our stay here. We loved how private, clean and well-kept everything was but it was the personal touch from Ray that absolutely made it. Nothing was too much for him and he really welcomed us to his farm. Thank you Ray and Rose, we will definitely be back and recommending your lovely site to our friends and family.

Disliked: Nothing at all.

Camping pod

Liked: One of the best sites we have stayed. Remote and quiet. Hostess gave us a quick tour of all available facilities and Ray later came to us to have a pleasant chat with us. Shared kitchen with all things you ever need, (plates, cups, cut boards, oven, microwave, toaster, fridge) , "Community hall" with lot of games for kids and seating area, and clean showers. Each pod had multiple beds, basic necessities (cups, kettle, mini fridge), toilet, table with chairs. You can park your car close to pod. Remote but amazing location. Amazing views of faraway mountains and lot of sheep's around site. And two, kind of annoying, chickens, who didn't leave us alone and stole some food from us.

Disliked: Nothing. Seriously nothing. Maybe thieving chicken. They were cool though. :)

Local attractions

It’s a fair guess to assume you’ve come to this part of the world to get your fill of fresh air… so start your sojourn with a stroll in the Clwydian Range AONB, which surrounds the site, or set off for the Snowdonia National Park (half an hour away by car). Should you wish to scale Snowdon, it’ll take you an hour or so to drive to one of the starting points. More excited by the mountain biking option? Make off to Moel Famau (20 minutes’ drive), the Llandegla Forest (half an hour) or Coed y Brenin Forest Park (an hour). Llyn Brenig (35 minutes) is a fab spot for fishing, and there’s wilder water to tackle with rafting and gorge walking trips from Llangollen (half an hour). Rather just view the waters? Take a scenic trip on the Bala Lake Railway (40 minutes). If your Wales trip isn’t complete without a castle and a beach, those can be sorted with an outing to grand medieval pile Chirk Castle (40 minutes) and the sandy beach at Talacre (55 minutes). Llandudno, a bit further along the coast (an hour’s drive from the farm) is another fab spot for a beach day – ride the cable car up to the top of the Great Orme headland, then paddle in the sea or bimble around Bodnant Gardens, a couple of miles outside town.
