  • Small glamping site at a smallholding with stunning Snowdonia views
  • A 20-minute drive to Lake Bala and half an hour to Llangollen
  • Fully enclosed open space with kitchen facilities and barbecue
Fancy a rural stay with spectacular views over Snowdonia, but without the need to negotiate lots of little rural roads? Somewhere comfy where you’ll have a whole load of splendid space just for you? Take yourselves off to Ty Bach Holidays, a Denbighshire countryside site that’s only about half a mile from the A5. Although there aren't many accommodation units on this site, you won’t be alone – there’s plenty of company from the likes of donkeys Peggy and Lucy and their other animal pals. This location is a pretty handy one for getting out and about – it’s a 10-minute drive to Corwen (for shops and places to eat), and around 20 minutes to Snowdonia hikes or kayaking on Lake Bala. Llangollen and ZipWorld Fforest are about half an hour away, or you can hit the coast at Llandudno or Portmeirion in about an hour. It’s certainly worth planning some time on site though – the views over to Cadair Idris are quite something, and the dark skies at night are often amazing too. The bell tent has a double bed and two singles, and there’s both a covered kitchen and a barbecue (either one a great place to cook up bits from the farm shop five minutes’ drive away). The whole glamping area is safely fenced so kids can play freely (and you’ll be protected from any goat invasions…) There are toilets and showers here, and you’ll have a sink with running water; most people can get decent mobile phone coverage too if needed.

Dolwg Y Mel 1 bedroom camping pod

Liked: The views are amazing and match the very cosy and inviting interior of the pod. Everything you would need and the toys and games for the little ones is a lovely extra. Great comfort and luxury and the donkeys and goats love a good scratch and cuddle too!! 😊

Disliked: The wind and rain 🤣🤣 but that’s something that can’t be controlled.

Dolwg Y Mel 1 bedroom camping pod

Liked: Stunning views, cosy and comfortable accommodation. We loved the goats and donkeys and how peaceful it was. The whole space was fantastic.

Disliked: We would have liked a little information about the appliances and wi-Fi etc however we did sort it all out so it wasn’t a major issue.

Dolwg Y Mel 1 bedroom camping pod

Liked: From the moment we arrived we loved every second of our stay, pod was bigger than we expected and was so cosy and we had everything we could need and more - small shed with kids toys and added extras was such a nice touch. The views were spectacular and the host was more than helpful. Great all round stay!

Y Babell bell tent

Liked: Everything! The view was beautiful, facilities were excellent and clean, host was lovely and friendly. Loved having the paddock to ourselves, we could let the children play without worrying about them getting in to mischief. They loved being able to see the donkeys and Highland cows every day. The tent was lovely and clean, beds were very comfortable. The sunsets were incredible and as it's remote, there is no light pollution so we were stargazing every night. Central location so easy to get around.

Disliked: Shower was a little too hot for us but not a big enough issue to mention/worry about.

From the manager: Thank you for the lovely review Leanne, it was a pleasure to have you and your family here. We would have been happy to turn down the temperature in the shower but I'm glad it did not spoil your stay.

Local attractions

North Wales is an excellent place to get active in all sorts of ways. And there’s no better place to start than Snowdonia National Park, the edge of which is about 20 minutes away by car. Hikes of all levels and lengths are all around the park – if you don’t know where to start, Betws-y-Coed (half an hour’s drive) is a good pick, as is Bala (20 minutes), where you can also kayak on the lake. For activity of a different kind, try the ziplines, forest coaster and treetop nets at Zipworld Fforest or head to Llangollen for white-water rafting (both half an hour away). There’s also the option of seeing the area at rather slower pace with a ride on Llangollen Railway’s heritage line or a stroll around Chirk Castle (40 minutes). Swap mountain scenery for coastal views by heading up to the north coast for a seaside day in Llandudno (an hour) or aim west to explore the pretty Italianate buildings, gardens and beaches of Portmeirion (55 minutes).
