  • Rural site six miles from the edge of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park
  • Llyn Brenig 10 minutes' drive; National White Water Centre 15 minutes
  • Brown trout fishing at the on-site river; small, basic site in a field
Time for a trip to North Wales? If you like your campsites small, stay by the river at Glan Ceirw Caravan Park in Denbighshire. Six miles from the edge of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, this site has small pitches in a little field alongside a river where guests are welcome to cast off for brown trout (free and with no licence required) – just bring along your fishing equipment. Owners Pauline and Martin have a snug bar for drinks, which they open on bank holidays. Amenities including toilets, showers and a launderette are maintained to high standards, and the grounds are kept immaculate to encourage local wildlife (and the kids out to play). The site is LGBTQ+-friendly, so everyone is welcome. This is a valley location between the towns of Corwen and Betws-y-Coed, with mountain bike trails, cycle routes, peak scaling, forest walking and Bala Lake all within a short drive. A tasty farmers’ market is nearby, where you can pick homemade and organic produce. You could even bring a jar of jam back and pack it away as a souvenir.

What customers say

This site is praised for its peaceful riverside location, friendly owners, and beautiful natural surroundings, including a stream that children enjoy. Pitches are often described as private and well-suited for tents. However, some reviews highlight that pitches can be small and uneven, and facilities, particularly toilets and showers, are frequently described as basic, dated, and not always clean, with occasional issues regarding hot water. Some guests noted the site's potential but felt it needed refurbishment. The on-site pub and bar are sometimes closed or not fully operational.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (four person)

Liked Absolutely wonderful and incredibly welcoming hosts, who always greet you with a smile. They are always ready to help and go above and beyond to make every guest feel comfortable and happy, doing their very best to meet everyone's individual needs.

Disliked The toilet and shower facilities are a little below today’s standards. There are definitely not enough showers, and having at least one more sink would make a big difference.
The toilets were always clean and regularly looked after, which we really appreciated. However, the overall standard of the facilities could be improved and modernised to provide a more comfortable experience for guests.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Very peaceful location, right by the river and lovely to paddle there with easy access. Very pleasant owners, conservatory with pool table, football table and dart board with the bar open on Saturdays. 20 mins from Bala Lake if visiting. Toilets were adequate and clean enough. I think the site has newly been taken over by a young family and are restoring it, I wish them all the best 😊

Disliked Very small site, only about 9 pitches for tourers which are on top of each other and difficult to get on due to the hill. Parking very tight. Not much to do or any playing field / park for young children. Games room was very worn, felt on pool table ripped and had to pay..no darts available that we saw (?)
No clue when arriving where to go/who to speak to, I asked what looked like a grounds worker and he said to just “knock on the double patio doors” - definitely need some signs. Same for toilets/washroom - no signs. Very expensive for what it is, paid £8 for the dog and £9 for the awning - never been charged for an awning and price was steep for a dog in my opinion.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (four person)

Liked Peaceful setting by stream side. Friendly owners and a very friendly resident cat. Washing up room and toilets with 1 shower available. Pitch up where you like.

Disliked Toilets and shower could be a bit cleaner. Pitching area is mainly on a slope. Site would benefit with a little shop, as it’s so far from any where .

Liked Place is beautiful and peaceful, the staff is polite and our neighbours were good as well. We loved the view and the river nearby. I had a walk through the neighborhood and felt like at my grandma in childhood.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Location was only 20 minutes drive to Bala.

Disliked During our stay, we were disappointed by several issues that affected our experience. Although we booked a hardstanding pitch, there was no designated space for cars to park, and it was difficult to move around the vehicles blocking access.

A large family group appeared to take over much of the surrounding area, pitching right up to our boundary and even using our electric hook-up. Several members of their group who were not staying on the site were also parking in the camping area.

Their children and teenagers repeatedly played ball games across our pitch, showing little awareness of other guests. There was no quiet time observed, and no intervention from the site owner to manage noise or overcrowding.

Overall, it felt as though the site was trying to fit in as many people as possible, resulting in cramped conditions and a lack of respect for personal space. This significantly impacted our stay.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (four person)

Liked Really enjoyed our stay, the camp does exactly what it says on the tin. Kids playing, laughing and in the middle of nature by a running river. We were allowed BBQs and small fires (if contained). 20 mins from Bala 20 mins from zipworld.. it is smallish but every pitch offers a bit of beauty… you can even go in wood a little which looked lovely. It’s got a real homely feel. It’s ideal as a base! There’s a convenience store 2 miles up the road selling everything you need.

Disliked I think small tweaks could make this stay better, but nothing urgent at all.. the games room looked ideal for rainy days but I do believe is getting refinished (along with the little pub).

Local attractions

Bala Lake, Betws-y-Coed, Coed Llandegla Forest and Snowdonia National Park are all nearby, with enough activities of all sorts to keep you busy for weeks. Start off strong at the Conwy Valley Railway Museum’s miniature railway at Betws-y-Coed, then take a riverside walk along the Llugwy and on to the spectacular Swallow Falls via the River Conwy; if you don’t fancy the walk, settle down at the picnic areas overlooking the Pont-y-Pair Falls in the centre of the village. Activity centres are within easy driving distance, like the one at Wales’s biggest body of water, Bala Lake, which has a huge range of outdoor options including whitewater rafting, zorbing and canoeing. On land, horse riding, quad biking and dry slope skiing are all available, or you could follow in the footsteps of thousands (millions?) and scale some of the peaks of Snowdonia (promise yourself a picnic and a Glan Ceirw ale at the top). If it’s heritage (and a rest) you’re after, two vintage steam railways are nearby – one at Bala and one at Llangollen – while in the national park the kids can dig into Welsh mining history with trips to Blaenau Ffestiniog’s Llechwedd Slate Cavern and the National Slate Museum.
