  • Family-friendly and relaxed park five minutes' drive from Penmaenmawr
  • Edging Eryri National Park and 10 minutes’ drive from Conwy Castle
  • Country club with bar, live entertainment, snooker room and kids’ zone
A relaxed North Wales touring park, Lyons Pendyffryn Hall Holiday Park & Country Club is just outside Penmaenmawr, a pretty Conwy village at the northern tip of Eryri (formerly Snowdonia) National Park. Prime position at Lyons Pendyffryn has to be on the Country Club’s terrace, from where there are fine views out over the Menai Strait and Puffin Island. The club is also the social hub of the site, with regular barbecues, live entertainment and special events running throughout the year, plus a bar, snooker room and family room to keep everyone happy. Other facilities include an adventure play area and a kids’ zone with a pool table. There’s a friendly, laid-back vibe at this site, which welcomes dogs and permits alfresco evenings cuddled up with family and friends by the campfire or barbecue; supplies for the latter can be picked up at the small supermarket in Penmaenmawr or shops in Conwy (10 minutes’ drive). It’s also a handy spot for getting out and about in North Wales, as the A55 is close by, meaning that guests can reach Llandudno in about 20 minutes by car.

What customers say

This site offers beautiful views and large, well-maintained pitches. Staff are frequently praised for being friendly and helpful. While many appreciate the convenient location and on-site bar, some guests found the toilet and shower facilities dated and in need of an upgrade, with cleanliness being an occasional issue. Road noise was noted by some visitors.

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked Space and the views

Disliked The toilet block, not very clean and in need of desperately updating. Quite a bit away from the camping block.

No water connection for camping either.

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked Was close to Llandudno and Conwy.

Play park was located on the touring pitches non available for the statics so they’d have to walk up to come play. Not ideal. It’s a decent play park for the size of the site. But covered in litter constantly.

Disliked Information online and when you call doesn’t match what happens on site. We have a large 8 man tent. Tried to book was told tent was too large. So we booked two pitches and took two smaller tents. Site also says no awnings, etc. We then called and advised one of us drives a little van would this be okay? Staff were rude on the phone to start with then they advised no and also cars not allowed near tents due to how busy they were this weekend and that we’d have to park up the top and carry stuff down. This was not idea as we we’re traveling with 4 young kids and had specifically checked parking at pitch before booking! We arrived and the receptionist was rude at check in. We then went to the grass area marked for tents and there were huge tents and vans everywhere. Everyone parked with their cars next to tents! There is nowhere else on site you could possibly leave the car!

The ground, fine your in wales at the bottom of a hill your going to hit stones when pitching. But this was beyond a joke. All pegs were trashed it had clearly not been turned over, levelled or anything before they decided to open it to camping.

Access to the camping pitches could easily destroy the bottom of your car, no drop curb at all.

Located near a very noisy busy road and train line which ran throughout the night.

All the above was annoying but not the end of the world.

Facilities!! Worse I’ve ever seen on any site and that includes those that offered no showers and just a porta loo! First off you can’t access the bathroom without a key fob. Ours didn’t work and we had to go back to reception for a replacement fob, really these should be checked before given to visitors.
The bathrooms for women 4 toilets and 2 showers for about 50+ touring and camping pitches. They only clean them once a day 11-12. They are located at the top of the hill you have to pass all the touring pitches so you had a 5 minute walk to the toilets minimum from tent pitches. The water temperature is not safe. The hot water had no caution signs and was absolutely scorching hot. Thankfully we tried it before letting the little ones. Two old hairdryers and not one plug socket for women’s straighteners etc. They were absolutely disgusting when we arrived to the minute we left on day three. Twice we had no toilet paper.

Dish washing facilities same issue with water temperature and the taps are crap, hot water came screaming out all over the place and burnt my arms. Cold water pressure was a bloody trickle!!!

Couldn’t locate drinking water tap, asked at reception to be told use the dish washing taps. Asked if it was drinking water and were met with a shoulder shrug!!! Had to purchase bottled waters instead!

Games room! Just remove that from the list. A room you can only access by visiting the bar and asking for a key to be met with an old sofa and 4 machines you need to enter money to get a toy or sweet from. One was empty so let’s say three machines. You could have games an ice hockey table etc in a room that size. I’d of been happy to leave a deposit to be able to use a room that actually serves a purposes.

Bins: abandoned next to the entrance of the camping pitch next to the play park. No recycling option, not hidden behind a fence etc just dumped and that was it.

But the worse part of this whole experience was the behaviour of those staying in the static caravans, clearly people who owned them and not visitors due to their behaviour and no. of people. They had a stage and a karaoke machine directly behind the touring pitches, you could hear it on the camping pitches as it bounced off the hillside behind, this went on for hours! Both nights. And fireworks between 10-11pm both night sporadically so you never knew when it would end, no warnings. Dangerous on a site with tents, very young kids, dogs and next to a field of sheep. Site did nothing about it! If I lived in the village below I’d of been livid.

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked Very accommodating, the young lady in the club house in the evening was so welcoming and very friendly & hard working keeping the bar area immaculate, easy access.

Disliked It was a long walk to the shower block/toilets/wash-up area from the tent pitching area, a little like the tents were thrown to the back as they pay less, showers were a little dated and unkept looks like they could do with a bit of TLC floors lifting etc, the ground for the tents was very hard so putting tent pegs in was a real task as more concrete under the grass than soil.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked The bar with the balcony…. Beautiful view.
Staff on reception were friendly and helpful.

Disliked I paid £45 for the night, camper van with hook up (£3 additional for electric that I didn’t use and couldn’t get refunded)

I understand that it was a busy weekend with exceptional weather. I understand it is not the sites fault for other campers and their disregard for everyone else’s use of the facilities. The toilet/ shower and pot washing area had been trashed, and whilst no blame for the holiday park, at busy times they should inspect and clean more often.

If I’d have paid £25 I could have lived with it more easily and would not have put on a negative review.

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked READ DISLIKES AFTER!!! Great location, close to a beach and lovely village on a stunning setting on the bottom of mountains. The reception is located in a beautiful old building that I believe also has a bar, snooker room and I think perhaps more (I never used). The toilets and showers are ok but better than most. Over all the whole site is well above average.

Disliked ....Yet I'm so disappointed I cannot recommend this place to anyone. All these great points but all I ask is that a campsite is clean to an ok standards. I took photos so the receptionist could believe how bad it was (ATTACHED PHOTOS). I spoke to around 6 people who felt as angry as me. Poo and wee on the toilet seats, no toilet roll in men's or women's, washing up sinks had not been cleaned, so people had started to pile up food waist behind the tap. My wife wouldn't use the showers. The urinals are semi blocked up, so fill up and very slowly go down. It is the first time I would say the hygiene does not meet regulation standards. The owners should be ashamed of themselves! I have to do this review for the sake of future visitors.

There are family attractions aplenty nearby, from the rare red pandas and snow leopards at the Welsh Mountain Zoo (10 minutes’ drive) to outdoors fun on the surfing lake or zipwires at Zip World Conwy (25 minutes). On warmer days, you can pack a picnic and head to sand-and-shingle Penmaenmawr Beach (five minutes) for views across the Menai Straits.
