  • Well-maintained holiday park by the river Conwy in Llanrwst
  • Zip World Fforest and Adventure Parc Snowdonia within 10 mins' drive
  • Modern self-contained lodges with patio and barbecue
Set against a backdrop of forested hills in the market town of Llanrwst, Rwst Holiday Lodges is just the place to catch up on your rest and relaxation without sacrificing any of the comforts from home. Stylishly furnished single-storey lodges on the banks of the river Conwy come with well-equipped kitchens, modern shower rooms and bright open-plan living areas. It may be that you'd like to spend much of your time shooting the breeze on the enclosed private patios, listening to the river flow past and maybe firing up the barbecue when stomachs start to grumble. However, this is prime walking territory, so lace up your boots and go exploring. This pretty village is home to the Inigo Jones-designed Pont Fawr stone bridge and the ivy-clad Tu Hwnt I’r Bont tearooms, where you can sample classic offerings like Welsh cakes and spiced bara brith bread. Then take well-marked trails through Gwydir Forest Park to the village of Betws-y-Coed, where you can take a break on the miniature train ride at the popular Railway Museum or head further into Snowdonia National Park, to see if you can spot mountain goats, badgers and peregrine falcons. In the evenings, take the five-minute walk into Llanrwst for a bite to eat and a pint at a traditional pub, or grab what you need from the local supermarket and prepare dinner in your lodge. Later on, settle down on the patio and enjoy the spectacle of the night sky – it's often rather fabulous in this dark-skies area.

Local attractions

For thrilling experiences of the vertiginous kind, head to Zip World Fforest (five minutes’ drive), where you can ride a giant swing 80ft above the ground, take a 100ft drop through a trap door or hurtle down a hill on an alpine coaster. Of course, there are also zipwires, plus treetop nets for kids. Little adventurers (and big ones, for that matter) will have a ball on the gigantic ninja-style assault course at Adventure Parc Snowdonia (10 minutes), where you can also learn to surf in a manmade lagoon with artificial waves. And it would be a crime to be this close to the coast and not spend at least a day at the seaside. Conwy (20 minutes) has a medieval castle and a beach where you can watch the sun go down. Or grab an ice cream or a stick of rock on the Victorian pier at Llandudno (25 minutes), then ride the cable car to the top of the Great Orme peninsula for views of the coastline.

1 bedroom lodge (no pets)

Liked: Liked the lodge and the surroundings. Good layout and quiet.

Disliked: The bed was horrendous, could feel the springs and every time one of us moved it was very noisy. Didn’t get much sleep over the 4 nights we stayed there. Did ask at reception if anything could be done but nobody got back to us. Wouldn’t stay again due to this.
