The crux of coming to Conwy on holiday? Exploring the North Wales castles, countryside and coast, of course. Handy then that all of these three are within easy access of Penrhiw Uchaf Caravan Site and its lush meadows. This basic site is set on a working farm and comes with toilet and shower facilities. On day trips from this park, veer north and skirt the seaside (10 minutes’ drive or so) to bask on Colwyn Bay and Conwy Morfa beaches or set off south east to the centre of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park (half an hour) and take on the hillwalking trails. If you’d rather not get your heart rate spiking far above normal while on holiday, settle in at the park to gaze at the gorgeously green landscape, watching the lambs frolic in the fields or just staying put and soaking up the peaceful vibes. Making your own meals on the camping stove? Grab bits and bobs from a shop a couple of miles away in Glan Conwy – restaurants and pubs are here as well.

Liked Very peaceful and clean site and far removed from the huge clusters of static caravans that can be found elsewhere in the area. The proximity to Bodnant, Conwy and Llandudno is excellent, it’s in the heart of a beautiful area. Facilities are basic, but that was fine for us; showers were hot, fast flowing and did not need feeding with coins!

Liked Debbie who managed our booking was very helpful and friendly, she came over for a chat once we arrived and was very welcoming. Nice and peaceful site, very quiet, great location in terms of closeness to towns but far enough away in the countryside

Disliked Toilet / shower / cleaning block is a little dated, could benefit from having a refresh. But in general it was very clean so no complaints in that respect.

Disliked Couldn't get awning pegs in ground no signal on TV worse site I have ever stopped on shower block so dirty and toilet waste was not a nice smell either

Liked Lovely sunny (when it wasn’t raining) peaceful site well off the beaten track The pitches are on a 10m ish wide strip of gravel with a small stream on one side and a grassy bank on the other. All pitches have power and a tap. Sinks and toilets were clean but could do with a bit of maintenance. Overall the site is tired but if you want peace and quiet away from everything then it is great.

Disliked the single track approach road we came on is twisty windy with few passing places if you have a big rig then expect a challenge but we saw very little traffic . The pitches are level ish no but we had to use ramps where we were, we didn’t use our awning so don’t know how easy it would be to get the pegs in. The facilities are retro with 2 ex welfare /festival toilet and shower units clad and roofed with profile sheet. The showers are on or off with no temperature control but were warm. If you are a “larger” person then they will be a tight fit. The chemical and grey waste disposal room was very rough.

This park’s close to several of the top sightseeing spots in north Wales. Flit to the fantastically preserved Conwy Castle (10 minutes’ drive) to feast your eyes on fortifications dating back to the 13th century, making sure to walk the walls as well for views over the town below. Descend into the streets and have a quick stop at the Smallest House in Great Britain, followed up by a longer one at the restored Elizabethan-era home Plas Mawr. Later on, browse the boutiques before seeking out a cosy pub for a beverage or two. For strolls surrounded by spectacular scenery, make your way to the National Trust’s Bodnant Garden (10 minutes) and amble through the 80 acres of wildflower meadows, glades and pristine lawns set on a hillside. Too placid for your tastes? Zoom down a zipwire suspended above a disused slate quarry at Zip World Llechwedd (half an hour away).
