General

  • Friendly family-run site on the edge of Snowdonia National Park
  • A 15-minute drive from Llandudno
  • Well-kept amenities including unisex family shower room

Right on the edge of Snowdonia National Park and less than seven miles from the sea lies Erw Glas, a small, welcoming and mighty friendly site among spectacular scenery in the Conwy Valley.

The walled town of Conwy (with castle: this is Wales) is ten minutes away and the fab seaside resort of Llandudno (Bill Bryson's fave, seaside fact fans) is within 15 minutes' drive.

The family team here prides itself on its swish well-kept facilities: part-disabled toilet and shower amenities including separate ladies' and gents' toilets with two new shower cubicles, washbasins and a unisex family shower room. All amenities are cleaned regularly and their standards kept tiptop.

Barbecues and campfires are both allowed on site; supplies can be picked up at the well-stocked post office in nearby Maenan Conwy.

Erw Glas is a quiet family campsite, so no parties, please.

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Single-sex bookings of 3 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Owners friendly and welcoming, and very helpful. We stopped in the shepherd's hut, which was clean and very nicely presented. The bed was huge, and very comfy. The toilets and shower rooms were nice and clean, always warm, we never had to wait, and plenty of hot water. My little boy enjoyed the chickens (although I'm not sure that they enjoyed him!).

    Disliked:

Although obviously not the owner's fault, the site is right on an extremely busy road. The endless continuous noise of the traffic spoilt things for me. The road also meant that you could only leave the site by car; it would have been suicide to walk along that road. This is the only reason that I have said that I wouldn't recommend this site.

The shepherd's huts, although lovely, were very close together, and quite small and cramped on the inside. A few more hooks and shelves would have helped.

Camp site only small but has everything you need. Only stayed 1 night so would like to of stayed longer to do more exploring. Toilets where spotless and smelt good, sink with hot water with washing up liquid free to use which was a big help after cooking our tea. Really nice camp site and a lovely welcome from a lady in reception.

    Disliked:

There is a busy road just behind the camp site so the noise from the cars is a bit of a pain so I would stay further away from the edge of the camp site.

    Disliked:

Road noise (just off the main road, very loud if pitched at the top of the field)
Tents placed very close to one another
Limited number of toilets & showers (although very clean) for the number of campers.

Very close to the main road so noise from traffic is frequent; probably better if you are pitched up at the bottom end of the site.

Local attractions

Set in the Conwy Valley on the very edge of the Snowdonia National Park, Erw Glas has spectacular views across the valley to the hills above Dolgarrog. It's near the huge manmade surfing lagoon of Surf Snowdonia, with watery fun for all ages and levels of ability and first-rate facilities just over the river for hardcore surfers. Underground, adventure centre Go Below has three hair-raising routes to tackle.

The famed Bodnant Garden is five minutes' drive away; Conwy is ten minutes by car, and the biggest seaside resort in Wales, Llandudno, is within 15: have days here to wander its long pier and its two beaches, and to amble along the seabird headland of Great Orme; take the cable car to the summit for more spectacular seaside views.
