General

  • Friendly family-run site on the edge of Snowdonia National Park
  • Less than 20 minutes’ drive from beaches at Conwy and Llandudno
  • Tons for kids: zoo, aquarium, surfing, trampolining and karting nearby

At Erw Glas Campsite, a family-friendly site in the village of Maenan and 15 minutes from the town of Conwy in north Wales, you're all set for a nature-filled getaway. Erw Glas translates to ‘green acre’, and no other name would have been more appropriate here.

Right on the edge of Snowdonia National Park, Erw Glas is a top spot for soaking up the spectacular scenery. Added bonus? Walking, hiking, biking and riding trails through the park are within easy reach of the site, not to mention all the fab spots to explore inside Snowdonia.

If mountains and views aren’t your thing, try sand and views. Erw Glas is 15 minutes from the beach in Conwy and 20 minutes from Llandudno seaside resort, and there are loads of other heavenly sands within half an hour. Or you could take a day off from taking a day off and join the Wales Coast Path in Conwy – that’s 870 miles of sea views, so remember to stretch before getting started.

When you’re ready to settle in for the evening, get that campfire lit and fire up the barbecue. Grab supplies at the supermarket five minutes away in Llanrwst, and chow down in the peace and quiet on site (parties are forbidden here, so you don’t have to worry about anything damaging your calm) – while the cockerel, hens and ducks roam around...

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Single-sex bookings of 3 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Group bookings of 5 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

Loved the site! Everything had been thought of. The Shepard’s huts are beautiful and immaculate. The wood burning hot tubs are fab! Loved the honesty shop with fresh eggs too. The shower facilities on site were great too, very clean. Great location for exploring north wales. We will be back for sure!

Lovely quiet site, huts are clean, well equipped and cosy. The bed was very comfortable. Although we didn't, having a dog with you posed no problem with each hut having it's own little enclosed garden. The reception caravan is qwerty, and stocked most of what you would need for your stay including freshly laid eggs!
Steve was very accomodating, nothing too much trouble.
Lovely touch of complimentary wine and chocolates on our arrival.

    Disliked:

Not a dislike at all, but maybe a small path could be laid across to the toilets and shower block.

I liked how flat and level the field was and also the view from the field was amazing, especially with the low cloud in the morning! Nice little honestly shop filled with leaflets, maps, food and drink as well! The owner Joanne greeted us and she was so lovely and welcoming and recommended a great chip shop nearby! There was a road next to the field but we hardly noticed the cars, only when a lorry went past did we remember there was a road there. Toilets and shower block were SO clean as well, was very impressed!

Superb little campsite!!! Easy and hassle-free check-in. There is a little 'shop' where you can buy essentials such as milk, eggs (produced on site) and firing wood - guests are being trusted to leave money for any purchases in a small money jar.. will definitively come and stay again!!

    Disliked:

I would have been good to be able to park car next to tent in order to keep things off the ground, but I understand that this may not be feasible with chicken and ducks (which are lovely by the way!!) roaming the grounds.

Absolutely everything, the shepherds hut is so well thought out, beautifully decorated, and has everything you need. The bed is so comfy, and the fact it has an oven,tv, kettle ect is a bonus. The garden are us spotless, garden furniture, bbq, fire pit, and we opted for the wood burning hot tub, which if you havnt tried, it's like a bath under the stars, so relaxing and you won't ever want to go in an electric one again! The site itself is beautiful, stunning views, roaming chickens, and the cleanest shower and toilets you'll ever find! Thank Naomi and Steve, 3 rd year running, and not the last, I can't praise you enought.

This campsite is idyllic, with chickens wandering around and a cute little caravan reception where you can buy food and milk and can hire a firepit and buy fuel for the firepit. The toilets and washing up area were really nice. The view is magnificent.

We ended up having to leave in the middle of the night, only because we pitched our tent in a really open spot at the bottom with no one near us and no trees or anything to act as a wind break. It was extremely windy so one of the poles of our tent broke and our tent collapsed. Apologies if we disturbed anyone.

We would love to go again when the weather is less windy. The day time was perfect and we had a lovely time in Conwy which was only ten minutes up the road. It was only our second time camping so we don't know about how to judge the best place to pitch a tent.

    Disliked:

Nothing. Advice - use Google maps rather than the address on here as there is a road name on Google. We ended up doing up a massive hill opposite the camp site before we realised it was across the road.

Local attractions

Once you’re all set up at Erw Glas Campsite, start your explorations and adventures in Conwy, 15 minutes’ drive from the site. The walled market town is an absolute must for its medieval towers, Telford-designed suspension bridge, the Guinness Book of Records ‘Smallest House in Great Britain’ and the spectacular hulking castle that dominates the skyline and overlooks the beach.

If you like poking around other people’s former homes, you’re in luck around here, with National Trust properties to make a beeline for including Beaumaris Castle, Plas Newydd, Penrhyn Castle, Aberconway House, Rhuddlan Castle and Caernarfon, all within 45 minutes of Erw Glas... or you could stroll through Bodnant Gardens for a day out in the open.

There’s plenty to do around here too if the kids start tiring of castles and beaches (how could they, you ask): there’s an aquarium in Rhyl and the Welsh Mountain Zoo closer at hand, or you could try Surf Snowdonia (a manmade surfing lagoon), ziplining, Bounce Below underground trampoline park, or karting.

Need to unwind from all the activity? Gwinwillan Conway Vineyard tours and tastings are 15 minutes away…
