Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Nothing

Disliked Between A road and railway. No dog walk. No WiFi. No hot water. Not nice toilets and showers ( didn't use the facilities) No food at the pub. Untidy site. Pub looks like it's about to close. A road closed at night for resurfacing so noisy night and very frequent train noise and level crossing sirens. Booked to stay two nights, left after one. AVOID!! This shouldn't be listed on pitchup.com. Terrible site.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Not a lot

Disliked We were looking forward to being able to have a pint and something to eat - sadly bar and pub closed during our stay. Particularly given most of the reviews note the food.
The whole place feels a bit unlove and uncared for.
The shower (just 1) and loos (3) were basic and a bit grubby
The shower and loo and washing up sink as one block doesn’t have a main door - and the 2 other loos have water heaters which don’t seem to work. One loo has a combination lock which got locked during our stay so there were just 2 loos available during the stay.

The only running hot water in shower. Fresh water via a kitchen sink cold tap so filling our water container was a pain!
The road noise and rail noise is what it is.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Stopover on way home, directly on route. Had read about noise from road and wore ear plugs so wasn't an issue. Good to be able to have a meal in pub. Basic menu but what you'd expect. Homecooked pie very tasty.

Disliked Toilets and showers very basic. If improved score would be better.

What customers say

This campsite is situated next to a busy road and railway line, which guests frequently mention as a source of noise. However, many praise the friendly and welcoming staff, the good value for money, and the excellent food served at the on-site pub. Pitches are generally described as level. While some guests found the facilities basic or in need of updating, others noted improvements and cleanliness. It's considered a convenient stopover for walkers and travellers.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Nothing

Disliked Next to very busy and noisy road, and a railway line and crossing (alarms sounding when train approaches). One shower and toilet and kitchen sink housed in an outhouse. Extremely basic and not very clean. Site not well maintained. Pub was closed, noone there to check in, no information available. Heard anedotally that the owner had left or was ill. Did not feel safe.

Camping pod (adults only, no pets)

Liked The lady owner was friendly and helpful, and provided a nice meal. The camping pod was comfortable and had all linen etc. provided. It was also in a very handy location for the Offas Dyke path.

Disliked The shower and toilet block were OK but slightly basic.

Local attractions

What horizons to set your sights on first? Well, for those of you who have historical sites high up on your holiday to-do list, there are a few places to get started and Powis Castle (10 minutes' drive) is one of the closest out of the lot. This huge Welsh castle has some splendid garden terraces and walks in the grounds are a real treat… For less walking and more chugging about, steam train trips go from the Welshpool and Llanfair Railway Preservation Company (10 minutes). To continue with your historic streak, The Wharf Powysland Museum (10 minutes) spills the beans on Montgomeryshire’s local history, while for ruins, Montgomery Castle (15 minutes) and the Mitchell's Fold Stone Circle (20 minutes) are some of your options. Of course, activities-wise, walking is particularly fine around this area, especially in the Shropshire Hills National Landscape (20 minutes) and Snowdonia National Park (40 minutes) but the kids in your group could cheer on the pig races or meet the alpacas at Park Hall’s adventure farm (25 minutes). Meanwhile, the adults might prefer to go for a laidback game of golf at the Brookland Hall Golf Club (10 minutes).
