  • Adults-only site on a 90-acre farm looking over the Radnor Valley
  • A 15-minute drive from Presteigne and Hergest Croft Gardens
  • Smart, insulated glamping pods with heating and ensuite bathroom
It's time to spill the beans about Hush Hush Glamping, an adults-only site in Wales' Radnor Valley. Although, on closer inspection, it appears this site's not quite as secretive as its self-effacing name would suggest – pics of these plush rural pods have popped up in various outlets since they first opened, including the national press… That said, things are still highly hushed in this peaceful part of the world. This 90-acre farm is roughly 15 minutes' drive from Presteigne, the nearest sizeable settlement, and there's no wifi connection here, meaning your mobile won't be constantly buzzing with bothersome notifications. (Not down for a full digital detox? Mobile coverage is available.) Things are extra-still here after dark, when the stars shine particularly brightly – Hush Hush Glamping is in a designated dark sky area, so come along set to cosy up under blankets in anticipation of some rather stunning stargazing. The fully-insulated pod is made of natural wood and, being set on a hillside, comes with cracking valley views. A double bed, kitchen, ensuite bathroom, heating and an outdoor terrace mean that this place also gets top marks for comfort. You won't be short of privacy at Hush Hush Glamping – the resident alpacas and sheep and visiting red kites, hares and deer far outnumber human guests, so you'll be able to admire the views over the Radnor Valley and Black Mountains in peace.

Local attractions

It's a doddle to reconnect to the elements in this part of Radnorshire. Water? There's gallons of it at Water Break its Neck waterfall (15 minutes' drive), an alarming-sounding but actually pretty peaceful spot with several waymarked walks. After that, get canoeing on the river Wye down at Glasbury (40 minutes) or treat yourself to a soak at Cloud 9 Spa (15 minutes). Next up, earth, for which there's the fab flora planted in the grounds of Hergest Croft Gardens (15 minutes), the earthy tones of the Radnor Forest (five minutes) and – if you don't mind the drive – the deep, dark National Showcases Centre for Wales (an hour and 20 minutes). Windwise, you're looking at a choice between fluttering feathers at Valley View Falconry (35 minutes) and the gusty uplands of the Shropshire Hills (from 20 minutes). Feeling fiery? In the winter months, huddle up by the hearth in any one of the traditional pubs in Presteigne (15 minutes). And that just leaves aether, which is notoriously rather tricky to pin down. Not to worry – you can always pop down and seek out the answer in bookish Hay-on-Wye (35 minutes).
