  • Quiet site on a small working farm 10 minutes' drive from Aberdovey
  • Surrounded by the mountains, valleys and woodlands of Snowdonia
  • Well-maintained facilities and easy access to main roads
Seaside days and the southern stretches of Snowdonia National Park – sound like a splendid mix? Make for Gwyliau Cefn Crib Holidays, a small and scenic site 10 minutes’ drive from Machynlleth. Finding your way in should be fairly pain-free, as the family-run farm is in a most handy spot just off the A493 (excellent news for those who don’t fancy winding wee roads). And that road’s not just a plus point for long journeys: follow it along for another 10 minutes or so to Aberdovey for beach days, watersports and walks on the Wales Coast Path (followed by coffees/ice creams/full-blown meals in the village’s cafés and restaurants). The coastline and countryside both have stacks of options for outdoorsy antics: windsurfing, sailing, climbing, and mountain biking are all nearby, and of course being in the Snowdonia National Park means many a mile of hiking trail to ramble along. Start your warm up for such endeavours on the farm: there are plenty of trees to climb, acres of fields and paths to wander, streams to paddle in and woodlands to explore. Getting mucky is often part of the deal, so the folk on site have installed a toilet and shower block with free hot water and nicely spacious shower rooms. Barbecues may well be part of the deal too, and there’s a washing-up area to deal with implements from those, too.

What customers say

This site offers beautiful views and a quiet atmosphere, with well-maintained toilet and shower facilities and a small play park. It's conveniently located for beach access. Some guests found the walk to facilities long and noted issues with blocked toilets and cleanliness in the washing-up area. WiFi is advertised but not available. The manager has responded to concerns regarding signage, road conditions, facility distances, and pricing.

Liked Surroundings very beautiful, quiet place,
Owner is friendly and let you choose your own place

Disliked You have to make a little walk to the toilets and showers,
Cycling from campsite to shore or village is not possible because of busy roads

From the manager: Hi Cecile,
Glad you enjoyed your stay. Unfortunately the road isn't great to cycle on, but you can walk the Wales Coastal Path in both directions - to the village or to Aberdyfi beach, from our site.
Many thanks

Liked The peace and quiet

Disliked the camping pitch was on a hill and not flat at all
Drive away past pitches to get to there reception only for no one to be there then phone and get sent back up same road....only small thing but seems silly all the same

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi! Glad you enjoyed the peace and quiet. There is also a number to ring on the welcome board just by the pitches, to save you driving down to Reception.
Many thanks

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Lovely location, really nice pitches, not very busy with campers and easy access to camping pitches. Nice bathroom / shower rooms with toilets. A basic park good for little children. Good value for a base for 7 nights.

Disliked The walk to the bathroom / shower rooms. The blocked toilets were very basic, no soap in the toilet facilities. The washing up facilities not very clean ( may be down to other campers though). The park overall could be improved (the swing)

Glyn T. 1 review

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked EHU and nearby water

Disliked VERY unwelcoming. Like driving into a travellers camp. Reception poorly signposted. Located at end of rough dusty lane. Reception was locked and deserted apart from three very friendly dogs. Had to phone for instructions, no actual contact with owners during our two days. Finally found the tourers area which was a long way from the facilities. Too far for us to walk, could not use them.

From the manager: Hi Glyn
Thanks for your review. Really sorry you didn't enjoy your stay.
Some information for others who decide to stay:

1. There are a total of 4 sign to follow to get you to Reception, and at Reception there is a number on the wall to call if we're not around.
2. We haven't had rain for the past 6 weeks so yes the road, all 400 meters of it, was dusty.
3. It takes about 4 minutes to walk from the field to the toilet and shower block, and there is another toilet mid way.
4. The price is £30 for your stay, which includes electrity, water, rubbish and recycling point, chemical waste point, washing up area, free showers, toilet block and free washing machine if you wanted it.

Local attractions

Wherever you go, remember to look up fairly frequently: this area is prime birdwatching territory and the Ynys-hir RSPB nature reserve, location for the BBC’s Springwatch, is 20 minutes away by car. Some of the most famous local feathered residents are the Dyfi ospreys, also featured by the Beeb in Springwatch and Autumnwatch. They fly south in autumn, but can be viewed on live video when they’re around at the Dyfi Osprey Project just down the road from Ynys-hir, or above the mudflats of the Dyfi estuary, part of the Dyfi National Nature Reserve. If you’re feeling up for a challenge, tackle trails of mountain Cadair Idris at the southern end of the national park, or go down instead of up at the many custom-designed tracks of the cracking Coed y Brenin mountain bike centre (there are bikes for hire if you don’t have your own). Both are about 50 minutes away. Beachcomber? Aberdovey (10 minutes) is the spot for sailing, kitesurfing and miles of sandy beach. To the south, the beach at Borth (half an hour) has three miles of sand edging shallow water safe enough for your shrimps to splash about in.
