  • Rural and back to nature site in Snowdonia National Park
  • Riverside and valley setting with mountain views
  • Four-acre space with bar and restaurant
Back to nature, rural and with a valley setting... to use as a base camp for all the attractions of Snowdonia or just as a peaceful place to settle down at for some time: welcome to Bare Bones Camping. Set by the River Dyfi in the Dinas Mawddwy valley, Bare Bones is in quiet green surrounds just inside Snowdonia National Park, with river and mountain views for scenic days on site. If you're aiming to get out and about from here, the activities of Snowdon are within easy reach and the coast at Barmouth is half an hour's drive away. Machynlleth and its famed Centre for Alternative Technology is 25 minutes from the site. Excellent options are around the grounds to aid idle days: guests can laze around at the site restaurant, or find their own secluded spot by the river or in the four acres of land and grassland. A shower room and toilets are in the main building, with access 24 hours a day.

Local attractions

Ask the Bare Bones team for top tips and info on the weeks' worth of hiking around here, either along Snowdonia National Park's extensive network of trails or by the water at its 100 or so lakes. There's also plenty of climbing for those seeking a more adventurous time, at the craggy peaks like Cader Idris (45 minutes' drive) and Tryfan (an hour and 15 minutes). Some of the most famed mountain biking in Wales is within easy reach at Coed-y-Brenin forest (40 minutes), home to the UK's first and biggest mountain bike trail centre. Start off at the excellent visitor centre for information on these, as well as a scenic woodland setting with three play areas and an animal puzzle trail following an all-ability and pushchair-accessible path. It's well worth the 90-minute drive to Wales's highest mountain Snowdon too, to hike up it or to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway all the way up to the summit; spectacular views across the sea to Ireland are ready for your camera either way.
