Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Great location, well managed pitches, with good facilities.

Disliked: My only criticism was that description says it has a “Pub within walking distance “. Sadly, this is not the case, for anywhere decent you have to drive. Apart from this, the place was great.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The most beautiful little campsite. A first time stay for us, but we will be dragging our little caravan back there as soon as possible. Absolutely LOVED having a dip in the river, literally 20-30 footsteps from our pitch, James was a fantastic host. The other campers all seemed friendly and all the kids there were totally charming. Our dog loved lounging around in the sun, and the allowance of a fire pit was a definite high. Quiet, peaceful, very clean and just lovely.

Disliked: Literally nothing

Local attractions

This part of the world has many enticing options for folk who like a good walk or bike ride on their hols: as well as local riverside paths, you might also like to consider setting off for the Elan Valley (half an hour’s drive) to ramble by lakes and waterfalls, or aim south to the trails of the Brecon Beacons National Park. For other outdoorsy days, there’s a fine golf course in Builth Wells (15 minutes) and the chance to see big birds take flight at the Red Kite Feeding Station in Rhyader (half an hour). The Brecon Mountain Railway (an hour) is a great choice for those who’d like to see the scenery at slow pace, and the Dolaucothi Roman gold mines likewise for folk intrigued by what lies beneath their feet. There’s a lot going on throughout the year in this area too – time your trip cleverly to tie in with the Hay-on-Wye Book Festival (45 minutes), the parades of fine beasts at the Royal Welsh Show (20 minutes) or the famed World Bog Snorkelling Championships (10 minutes).
