  • Quiet wildlife haven by the River Ithon
  • Peaceful and sheltered setting with free fishing on site
  • Licensed bar with Welsh beers, malt whiskies and more
Now this is a site that's fully in tune with its surroundings... peaceful and sheltered Disserth Caravan and Camping Park is in a wildlife haven on the banks of the River Ithon, where red kites and buzzards hover overhead and where you might catch a glimpse of the resident otter or kingfisher. Grayling trout fishing is available on site too and is free for guests; just remember to bring your rod licence. Junior explorers enjoy seeing what they can uncover in the depths with a net here as well; no licence required. (If angling's your thing, this is the area for it: the River Ithon is a tributary of the mighty River Wye, one of the best spots in the country for fishing and visited by anglers the world over to land salmon and trout from its waters.) Disserth Caravan and Camping Park is also quite in tune with what guests might fancy on hol, as it has a licensed bar with a good selection of Welsh beers and malt whiskies, as well as soft drinks, tea and coffee. Its well-kept amenities are in a modern log cabin with individual rooms, all with a toilet and washbasin and most also with a shower. Laundry and dishwashing facilities are also on site.

Electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Not much left a day early

Disliked: Web site stated licensed bar on premises which as on previous sites did not open , very dated sites , badly needed a revamp, to far out for people who are disabled to get around, These things should be stated on your web sites certainly would not have booked them had we known.

From the manager: I sympathise regarding the bar as it has no windows so from the outside you can not tell whether it is open or not; however you did not ask. As to the state of the park your opinion is at complete loggerheads with most of the reviews that follow. On your booking you asked 'near the facilities as have mobility issues', you were given the pitch nearest the toilet block. As to the location of the park, saying it is 'to far out' is down to you 100% as you choose the park, and if mobility is such an important issue then you need to do more research when planning your adventures. The location map on Pitchup for the park clearly shows it is surrounded by countryside and unlikely to be on rural bus routes. You booked online through Pitchup so the internet is obviously a tool you are competent with and one I would suggest you utilise to better effect when planning future stays.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Peace and quiet! We deliberately wanted to get away for a long weekend of chilling out after a busy period in work. From the off the host was welcoming, even getting boards for under the wheels as we were on a grass pitch (all that was available as we booked very late) in case the forecast turned out worse than predicted. Facilities were always clean and showers hot. Plenty of hot water in washing up area. Nice touch to see microwave, kettle and fridges available for anyone who needed them. Enjoyed catching a small trout in the adjacent river. Would happily book again for a guaranteed relaxing, chill out stay.

Disliked: Personally nothing, but the site is as described, quiet, and there is nothing else in the immediate vicinity, though it's only a 30 minute walk to a pub. This needs to be taken into consideration when booking.

From the manager: You could have saved your shoe leather and joined the others on Saturday and Sunday evening in the site bar where we had a good laugh!

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Cracking little camp site just outside Llandrindod Wells, next to the river and medieval church. Good base to explore the Elan Valley and not to far from the coast. Good facilities. Friendly staff and the little bar serving local ales is a added bonus. Highly recommend for a couple of nights or more.

Local attractions

Disserth Caravan and Camping Park is in a nifty spot to use as a base to tackle the walks and bike rides of mid-Wales, or for visiting the shows and events of the nearby Royal Welsh Showground. The Elan valley and the Red Kite Feeding Centre at Gigrin Farm are 10 minutes' drive to the north. Also have a look at nearby Abbey Cym Hir Hall at Llandrindod Wells, a neo-Elizabethan country mansion built in the 19th century, and at the Judge's Lodgings in Presteigne, a recreation of a 19th-century judge's house – courtroom included. Llandrindod Wells has the National Cycle Collection of Wales in its National Cycle Museum as well as an 18-hole golf course.
