Wild camping pitches
The highest field

  • Wild camping on a smallholding in the Brecon Beacons National Park
  • A 15-minute drive to Llangorse Lake; 20 to Black Mountain Activities
  • Animals on site; walks from the pitches and pubs five minutes’ drive
A spot of wild camping in the Brecon Beacons National Park, anyone? That’s pretty much what you’ll get at The Alltimate View, and very aptly named it is too, being on the side of All Hill with long-reaching views across Powys hills to the River Usk. And despite its peaceful and remote setting, the site is really easy to get to, being only a one-minute drive from the A40.
The few simple grass pitches are on a smallholding located between pretty riverside Brecon (15 minutes’ drive) and historic Crickhowell (10 minutes), and are something of a haven for hikers and cyclists, as trails and bridle paths lead straight out into Brecon Beacons National Park and the Black Mountains.
The site is also in an International Dark Sky Reserve, making it a prime spot for stargazing far away from city lights; guests have spotted meteors on particularly special nights. No-frills amenities cover a shower and loo, charging facilities and a communal fridge and freezer for keeping all your foodie bits and pieces fresh. Pick up barbecue supplies in Brecon or skip the self-catering lark altogether and head straight for the canal-side pubs in Talybont-on-Usk (five minutes).
Back on site, you may well find yourself sharing space with the owners’ cheeky peacocks, chickens and ducks, as well as cute-as-anything, rare-breed Ryeland sheep.

What customers say

This site boasts stunning views and a tranquil atmosphere. Visitors praise the friendly and helpful hosts, clean facilities, and proximity to walks. Farm animals add to the charm. While the site is basic, many find it perfect for a peaceful escape and express a desire to return. Some mention a single shower/toilet block, but acknowledge this is manageable on a small site.

Electric gravel motorhome pitch

Liked We had a lovely one night stop at Alltimate view. The views were stunning. Nice quiet site. Good shower, toilet and washing up facilities. Made friends with all the onsite wildlife including the farmers Dog. Great for stargazing. Will definitely be returning.

Electric gravel motorhome pitch

Liked Good views, friendly host, nice pubs near by, generally good location and local walks.

Disliked We stayed at the small camper van pitch right at the entrance of the campsite, which had a small private bathroom (toilet and shower) in a shed nearby, away from the bigger shower facilities. I think that the set up was nice in principle, but the host clearly failed to take care to the small details that I would expect for the price per night. For example, we didn’t have any toilet paper or soap for most of our stay as there was very littler left when we arrived. Luckily we brought our own.
I think that it would be prudent to check the bathrooms for such things at least once a day and re-stock if necessary. Similar the bathrooms and dish washing area could just used a bit of a clean down / tidy up to make it feel a bit more welcoming.

From the manager: Hi ,
so sorry about your experience , we did allow you to go onto the overflow area which we seldom use , but you did asked for some privacy , so we let you go there but it was our mistake that the private toilet there was not checked daily and we apologise for this , but the main shower and toilet block is ALWAYS CHECKED AND RESTOCKED DAILY , if you had pointed it out we would have done something immediately ,

Electric gravel motorhome pitch

Liked The welcome in was wonderful and Chris was a great host, offering local recommendations for hikes and farm shops. The pitch itself is level and perfect for camper vans. Toilets and showers just a short walk from the pitch. The views from the site are to die for, especially on a clear day like we had. Overall a great trip, especially for our first night in a new van. Will definitely use again.

Electric gravel motorhome pitch

Liked Views were amazing.

Disliked Pitches not marked out so just park wherever. No one around to speak to but was told following day they had to go out that evening. People parking far too close no privacy. A lot of money just for a view

From the manager: So sorry your stay was not to the same standard of satisfaction as everyone else
We do apologise for not being here however my mother was suddenly taken ill yesterday so we had to leave the site and your comments will not help the situation
The yard is 40 metres in length with 8 hookups
Last night there were 6 vans on and at a max width of 3 m then there should have been more than ample space !
Regarding the cleanliness we daily mop and clean and the usual comment is that our new facilities are better than those at home !
We will ensure pitches are marked for your benefit however the general consensus is a 10-10 site and we always try to give our valued guests a special stay and I would ask that you consider the reviews we have received and if you feel your negative review is justified bearing in mind I did apologise for our absence this morning due to an emergency.
Sorry again if you did lack space but we do also have another yard with 6 hookups that was also available and we would happily have refunded if you had informed me of the problem

Electric gravel motorhome pitch

Liked An absolute gem. So peaceful with the most incredible view. A lovely warm welcome when we arrived.
Peacocks, chickens and lambs in the yard and paddock. A lovely walk through the woods.
Lovely facilities, very spacious showers and toilets, which were nice and clean.
Dedicated refuse and recycling area away from the pitches
We walked into the village one day and found the canal, and continued our walk along there. Returning to the village for lunch at the Star, the steak and kidney pie was very good.
There is a fab van at the end of the drive, selling food and drinks. The breakfast baguette is incredible
Can not fault this site.

Electric gravel motorhome pitch

Liked The view (obviously) was bloody gorgeous. Lovely location with nice walks around. Owner came over to say hello, was very friendly. Lots of animals around, sheep, cows, peacock… facilities were clean.

Facilities were basic but still has everything you could need or want.

Disliked Facilities were small and mixed. Not too clear where to find toilet waste, rubbish, clean water etc.

Local attractions

If it’s time to get active in the bracing Brecon Beacons air, pack yourselves off to Llangorse Multi Activity Centre (10 minutes’ drive) to test your mettle on rope courses and indoor climbing walls (the latter is a useful option if the weather turns on you) or go pony trekking on heather-covered foothills. There are several golf courses within 20 minutes’ drive, while competitive types can race each other around the off-road track at Battle MX (20 minutes) motocross track. Black Mountain Activities (20 minutes) is the place for all things water-related – here you can have a go at canoeing and gorge walking. For gentle family-friendly ambles with scenic views, Llangorse Lake (15 minutes) has waymarked trails around its shoreline, while the track through dramatic Clydach Gorge (25 minutes) leads past an old tramway to the long-abandoned remains of ironworks and quarries. To delve into local history, take a tour of the monumental Norman tower and mellow-stone medieval mansion at Tretower Court and Castle (10 minutes) – once the hangout of Welsh bards – and if you fancy a day rummaging in the bookshops of Hay-on-Wye, the market town is a half-hour’s drive away.
