Stand by for action… Rhydywernen Farm Camping Site’s fab family farm location is in a most handy spot for getting out into the Brecon Beacons National Park for days of hiking, mountain biking, horse riding, canoeing, gorge walking and pretty much any other activity you’re up for in this part of Powys. And then, stand by for chilling out… for this is a most peaceful location, with spacious pitches backing onto woodland and a small river that’s prime territory for such classic country pursuits as skimming stones and poking about with little fishing nets in search of minnows. Away from the water's edge guests are encouraged to meet the site's miniature donkeys, helping to feed them and put them to bed in the evenings. Barbecues with a backdrop of the Brecon Beacons are of course a fine way to sort dinner on site (firepits are available to hire, with firewood to buy). If the weather’s not up to it (or you’re just in the mood to let someone else do all the work), there are plenty of pubs, cafés and restaurants up the road in Brecon. Work up an appetite for your eats with an hour-long stroll along quiet country paths, or get in the car for the easy 10-minute journey to town along the A470 (also a handy road for getting to other corners of the national park or heading across country to the north or south). Please note this is a family-friendly site: no open fires, no bad language and no loud music after 10.30pm please. Facilities on site include toilets, a washing-up area and hot showers (just take note that during popular times, the water pressure may be a little lower than usual).

Liked The location is lovely, with the stream/river flowing around the perimeter and walks extremely close by.

Me and my 7yo boy stayed here for the night and slept in our Tentbox with the river just behind us and it gave him endless amounts of joy playing near the river and in it. I can imagine it is fantastic in the warmer months.

The welcome was friendly and all information was very good and conveyed lovely.

The toilets and showers are well kept, modern and clean as well as the washing up area.

All in all, a great stay and we will be back.

Rhydywernen Farm was chosen because it is a 20 minute drive from Bike Park Wales and it made our quick getaway very enjoyable.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Such helpful hosts, charged our leisure battery which was very kind. Fabulous location for the four falls waterfall walk and the brecon beacons area. Lovely campsite, great hot shower which was much needed after 2 days off grid. The donkeys and goats enjoyed our stale pitta breads 🤩 we would definitely stay again. Friendly hosts, very helpful. Nothing to fault.

Liked Nice campsite had a field with a fast flowing river at the bottom. Firepits and benches even though we stayed during the recent storm (was competing in an event in Brecon and chose campsite for proximity to event).

Separate area for motor homes. Lady at reception wss really helpful, was an easy check in no red tape etc.

There are shower blocks and toilets and a small outside kitchen area with kettle, microwave, wash up area etc.

On the whole a nice campsite and I would stay there again no problem.

There is also livestock on the farm, donkeys and goats nearby.

A donkey at 5am yawning made a change from Alexa for the alarm clock!!


There is good wifi reception throughout the site also and it is free to connect.

Disliked All seemed ok to me. For 11 pounds per person to pitch a tent for the night you can't go wrong.

Liked We had booked a one night stay in advance. The owner was very friendly and accommodating to our last minute extra day booking with just 30 mins notice to arrive a day early.
The site is a small working farm and is lovely to see and hear the animals. The pitches are a good size with new looking clean toilet and shower block. There’s a lovely river at the bottom of the site to paddle or swim in. Very close to Brecon town and shops as well as Pen Y Fan for a great walk. A very well cared for site and will be visiting again for sure.

Disliked I cannot think of anything I’d look to improve on

Liked The facilities are exceedingly good for the price paid. When camping heated toilet/shower blocks are a luxury, as is WiFi connectivity. The provision for fire pits and ready availability of firewood was really appreciated during our mid-October stay and the evenings were getting quite cold.

The site is very accessible, being situated by a main road, but far enough away from it that road noise wasn't an issue.

Hiking up to Pen y Fan directly from the site was a real pleasure - if admittedly very much a full day undertaking!

Disliked No donkey wake up calls! Although coupled to the farm, hearing the braying of the donkeys is really just part of the charm of the site.

Liked Nice scenery and lovely owners. Loved the picnic tables which you could set up next to and the river next to the fields. The bridge over the river was great to. Toilets were nice and there were also 2 sinks to do washing up. A fridge and kettles as well. And WiFi was accessable from everywhere.Overall was a lovely quiet getaway and will definitely be back.

So much activity awaits in the Brecon Beacons National Park: pick a gentle hike around woods and waterfalls if you want, or get stuck in to scaling Pen y Fan (25 minutes’ drive away and southern Britain’s highest mountain). Horse riders can saddle up at the stables 10 minutes away, while those who like to zoom around on mountain bikes can get some speed up at BikePark Wales (25 minutes). The outdoorsy antics don’t end there – Brecon’s something of a hub for such things, and activity centres around the town can sort you with rafting, canoeing, high ropes courses and gorge scrambling. All sound a bit too exhausting? Take a more leisurely ride on the Brecon Mountain Railway (25 minutes) before heading home via the Penderyn whisky distillery (20 minutes). Break out of the Beacons for trips to some of the area’s other attractions: Llandovery Castle is half an hour away, as is the book-loving town of Hay-on-Wye. A little further north but worth a trip are the lakes of the Elan valley and the red kite feeding station in Rhayader; both are around an hour’s drive away.
