  • Small family-friendly site in the foothills of the Brecon Beacons
  • Just off the A470, a 10-minute drive from Brecon
  • Peaceful setting next to woodland with a small stream running through
Stand by for action… Rhydywernen Farm Camping Site’s fab family farm location is in a most handy spot for getting out into the Brecon Beacons National Park for days of hiking, mountain biking, horse riding, canoeing, gorge walking and pretty much any other activity you’re up for in this part of Powys. And then, stand by for chilling out… for this is a most peaceful location, with spacious pitches backing onto woodland and a small river that’s prime territory for such classic country pursuits as skimming stones and poking about with little fishing nets in search of minnows. Away from the water's edge guests are encouraged to meet the site's miniature donkeys, helping to feed them and put them to bed in the evenings. Barbecues with a backdrop of the Brecon Beacons are of course a fine way to sort dinner on site (firepits are available to hire, with firewood to buy). If the weather’s not up to it (or you’re just in the mood to let someone else do all the work), there are plenty of pubs, cafés and restaurants up the road in Brecon. Work up an appetite for your eats with an hour-long stroll along quiet country paths, or get in the car for the easy 10-minute journey to town along the A470 (also a handy road for getting to other corners of the national park or heading across country to the north or south). Please note this is a family-friendly site: no open fires, no bad language and no loud music after 10.30pm please. Facilities on site include toilets, a washing-up area and hot showers (just take note that during popular times, the water pressure may be a little lower than usual).

What customers say

Friendly, helpful owners and a beautiful riverside location are consistently praised at this working farm campsite. Visitors highlight the excellent, modern toilet and shower facilities, often noting them as spotlessly clean and warm. The site is ideal for exploring the Brecon Beacons, with direct access to walking routes and a short drive to Brecon town. The farm animals, particularly the donkeys and goats, are a popular feature. Some minor issues occasionally arise regarding shower pressure or occasional road noise, but overall, guests highly recommend the site and express a desire to return.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Lovely, scenic position near a small river. Very convenient for Brecon itself (40 minutes walking).Quiet with plenty of space on the pitch. Staff very helpful.

Disliked Pitch had a path to the toilet/shower block next to it and people sometimes walked through the pitch to get to it. We were warned that this might happen when we chose the pitch (there was another one on offer). However, I think the path way could have been marked/signed more clearly and the pitch better protected with small shrubs or a fence - people were walking both sides of our van and we had a small group of lads sitting and chatting on a wooden table that was part of our pitch at one point. Only a small point, though.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Location ideal base for walking facilities clean and fairly new Owners v friendly

Disliked No marked pitches picked a suitable area only for someone to park their van 4 ft away later in the day, one group with large tent parked two cars side by side taking up a pitch. At least two vehicles turned up late and left v early, had they paid ? A lot of barbecue debris left in hedges and litter left by neglectful guests. More vigilance required

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Great location. Owner very welcoming, helpful and friendly. Showers clean and hot. Nice to have a kettle and microwave for campers use.
Great value for money. Good WiFi

Disliked Lack of toilets on one field. 2 toilets were unisex and one for males so had to queue at times.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Friendly welcome and clear details about the bins, facilities, directions to places etc. Choice of fields which are not too massive but still have plenty of room for your own pitch. Babbling river running alongside the campsite gives charm and serenity.
Facilities were spot on (kettle, fridge, freezer, microwave) especially very clean sinks. Plenty of loos and showers so no waiting.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked This campsite absolutely exceeded all expectations. The locations to pitch are amazing, nicely spread out and large open fields. The showers and toilets were spotless and nice hot showers!
The owners were so welcoming and customer service was brilliant, we bought some firewood that was delivered to our pitch. And we also were able to purchase some ‘neon flame’ powder, which was just great touch to our nighttime campfire.
The animals that are on site are just the perfect touch, you are encouraged to meet them.

Local attractions

So much activity awaits in the Brecon Beacons National Park: pick a gentle hike around woods and waterfalls if you want, or get stuck in to scaling Pen y Fan (25 minutes’ drive away and southern Britain’s highest mountain). Horse riders can saddle up at the stables 10 minutes away, while those who like to zoom around on mountain bikes can get some speed up at BikePark Wales (25 minutes). The outdoorsy antics don’t end there – Brecon’s something of a hub for such things, and activity centres around the town can sort you with rafting, canoeing, high ropes courses and gorge scrambling. All sound a bit too exhausting? Take a more leisurely ride on the Brecon Mountain Railway (25 minutes) before heading home via the Penderyn whisky distillery (20 minutes). Break out of the Beacons for trips to some of the area’s other attractions: Llandovery Castle is half an hour away, as is the book-loving town of Hay-on-Wye. A little further north but worth a trip are the lakes of the Elan valley and the red kite feeding station in Rhayader; both are around an hour’s drive away.
