Local attractions

A holiday in Wales would not be complete without climbing the Brecon Beacons. You can walk from Pencelli Castle to the highest peak, Pen-Y-Fan in a little over three hours. The walk leads up past Llanfeugan Church, through open fields and onto the Brecon Beacons. Following sheep tracks and the high ridge with spectacular views all the way to Pen y Fan. The terrain is mainly gently sloping and grassy. Welsh Mountain sheep graze on the Brecon Beacons and over the years they have worn gentle paths which, if followed, make walking a lot easier.

There are several guide books available which highlight the more popular routes but with the help of an O.S. map and compass you can also head off to quieter areas where you can walk all day without seeing anyone.

The Brecon Beacons National Park has thousands of miles of public footpaths and cycle ways. Many routes lead directly from Pencelli Castle with some being more remote than others. It is possible to walk or cycle all day, surrounded by breathtaking scenery, without meeting anyone. Our staff are able to advise on all routes.

There are guide books available at the campsite for hill walking, Low level walking and cycling.
