Free farm park entry included throughout your entire stay at cantref adventure farm

  • Set in rural Wales with spectacular views of the Brecon Beacons
  • A 15-minute drive from outdoor activity centres in Brecon
  • Free entry to a farm park for the duration of the stay; café on site
Farmyard fun is the firm order of the day at Cantref Campsite, a family-friendly place three miles from Brecon town centre and surrounded by the spectacular scenery of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Stay here and you’ll not just get to meet the friendly animals: guests are permitted to access the kids' farm park next-door for the duration of their stay, from their arrival day to departure day. At the farm park, shows and workshops run every half-hour throughout the day, with antics including pet handling, bottle feeding lambs, tractor and trailer rides and madcap pig races. Now, it does occasionally rain in Wales, so the clever farm folk have installed a pleasingly spacious and heated indoor play area at the farm park in case the outdoor rides are too damp. Got a particular soft spot for the horses? You’re in the right place – the site’s also got a horse riding and pony trekking centre, catering for all abilities from baffled beginner to experienced horse handlers. For eats, Cantref Campsite's farmhouse café serves light lunchtime snacks, cakes and homemade specials and there are a couple of country pubs within a 10-minute drive.

Electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Staff were friendly. Campsite was clean and well maintained. Spectacular scenery. Perfect mountain views you can see from afar. Just few miles to Brecon Aldi and Morisons supermart.

Disliked Walking to a slopey path going to toilet and shower facilities not convenient for us specially when you have breathing problem.
The Ladies' shower room lights turned on & off while having shower and it was so dark during night time

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The owners were amazing swapping my pitch to a more levelled one due to my type of tent. The shower doesn't have those super annoying push to run buttons but a good old tap. Gorgeous views. I didn't use the fun part of the campsite but heard it and it sounded fun. Perfect spot for Pen-y-fan and that's what I was there for and to top it up very very good price.

Disliked It's not a dislike but mention if you're for a quiet one, it's not for you, tons of screaming kids around. But I knew the deal and didn't mind for a day.
Another not really a dislike but mention. WiFi internet only at the reception, and the G4 had barely any lines at the bottom field.
Truly disliked...
the light in the toilet that goes off in like 4 minutes when you're in the shower. Luckily I went for it during the day. That's the -1 on the score. And too bad I didn't figure that there were 2 more showers+toilet in each at the rear. Also in the showers at the front there's no bench or a bin or anything to put stuff on but wet and not really clean floor after a battalion of kids go in and out a hundred times. The taps, at the sink get stuck and at every visit to the WC there was at least one running endlessly.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The chap that showed me to my pitch was very friendly

Disliked Tent pitches not prepared after recent weather. I was on my own and the tent area was empty and yet I was placed next to the only other tent that was there which was a family. I was hoping for some peace and quiet. I paid for a week but left after the first night. Won’t be back I’m afraid.

Local attractions

Views out over the surrounding mountains and valleys will no doubt tip you off that there are plenty of options for mountain biking and hill walking nearby. Several biking and hiking routes start near the site, with heaps more around the rest of the Brecon Beacons National Park (including five mountain bike centres and 14 trails ranging from beginner to expert). If you’re up for other outdoorsy activities, activity centres in Brecon (15 minutes’ drive) can hook you up with days of canoeing, caving, climbing and sailing. For a real challenge, get set to scale Pen y Fan – south Wales’s highest peak is 20 minutes away (handily, the easiest route up is also the most convenient here – no need to let on to the folk back home.) For something a little gentler, take your binoculars to Craig Cerrig-Gleisiad or Talybont Reservoir (both about 20 minutes) for some excellent birdwatching, or crack on to Crickhowell Castle (25 minutes).
