  • Small, friendly glamping site on a family-run smallholding
  • A 10-minute drive from Brecon; stunning Brecon Beacons views
  • Cosy bell tents with bunting, lighting and woodburning stove
Now here’s a peaceful and pretty spot for a glamping break – Caecrwn Retreat is part of a family-run smallholding in the Powys countryside, just outside the Brecon Beacons National Park and with lovely views of South Wales’ highest point, Pen y Fan (a fine backdrop for an evening by the barbecue…) Although this location feels really very rural, in fact it’s about a 10-minute drive from Brecon, a handy hub of all sorts of things from supermarkets and restaurants to boat hire, bike hire and evenings at the theatre. The surrounding area is an excellent one for outdoor activities of various kinds, including horse riding, watersports and mountain biking (as well as hikes up Pen y Fan and other peaks, of course). You can wear yourselves out as much as you like on those active days, safe in the knowledge you’ll be coming back to a nice comfy place to stay, in a bell tent that’s been kitted out with much of what you’ll need for a good glamping break. Proper beds are made up for your arrival, and there are lots of nice cosy furnishings to make everything comfy inside the tent. A woodburning stove is supplied with plenty of firewood to help keep you warm too. It’s likely you’ll want to have a go at cooking outdoors if the weather’s good – there’s a barbecue provided, along with a picnic table and outdoor furniture. On damp days, or just when you fancy something quickly, you can head into a covered kitchen area to use the cooker instead. Either way, you’ll be provided with a cool box to keep your food fresh during your stay.

Bell tent

Liked: Isolated quiet location, within a 15 minute drive of Brecon, with two bell tents. Excellent bed & facilities within the tent. No electricity but coped. Lovely cold shower, washing fasciitises & 2 porta loos, all in a clean condition. Outdoor kitchen with little protection when it rained as canopy not big enough. Cooker stove seemed very slow in boiling a kettle but got there in the end.

Disliked: When we got there all the saucepans did not have handles but issue fixed next day
