  • Boathouse-style accommodation with direct access to Wales Coast Path
  • Two minutes' walk from Cwmtydu Cove; 15 minutes' drive from New Quay
  • Heated contemporary pods with garden, firepit and kayak storage space
In need of a spot to store your launch while away on hol? Potty about paddling? Then pack your wetsuit and head for this secluded boathouse by Cwmtydu Cove on the Cardigan Heritage Coast, around 25 minutes' drive from Llandysul. The beach here has a mix of sand and pebbles and is a splendid spot for fishing, swimming or setting out on kayak adventures. The Wales Coast Path passes pretty much directly in front of Ty Cwch Boathouse, so you'll be able to get out for seaside strolls too. All the splendid scenery is a mighty fine incentive to get out and stretch your legs, as is the fact that seals can often be spotted pupping on the beaches around these parts. The accommodation on offer here is fully heated and thoroughly insulated, so you'll be cosy and warm even when stormy weather's afoot. Cooking, eating and chilling out happens on the ground floor, while upstairs you'll have a four-bunk bedroom to snuggle down in. Outside, a covered decking area is on hand, with an infrared patio heater that you can turn on in the evening. There's plenty of outdoor space at Ty Cwch Boathouse, including a garden where there's a large firepit. Laundry facilities are available here for washing any salt-soaked clothes, and there's space to store your kayak between outings too. The closest food shops are in New Quay (15 minutes' drive), another smashing seaside spot with gorgeous harbour views.

Local attractions

On-site activities are one option here – bring your own kayaking, surfing or boating gear and store it securely in the accommodation, or get in touch with the Ty Cwch Boathouse team about seasonal site-organised activities. New Quay (15 minutes' drive) is the place go if you fancy taking a coastal cruise – these waters have some of the highest numbers of bottlenose dolphins in Europe, so make sure to head to the harbour and check out sailing times. Staying within the boundaries of Ceredigion, you can zip off to Aberaeron (25 minutes), a coastal town with handsome Georgian architecture; while you're up that way, pay a visit to the National Trust-managed Llanerchaeron Estate. Cardigan (half an hour), where there's a Norman Castle and attractive old bridge, is also worthy of a look-in. Further down the coast, Pembrokeshire's pretty scenery is also within reach. The ancient Pentre Ifan burial chamber (45 minutes) is basically Wales' version of Stonehenge, while the cathedral city of St Davids is about an hour and 15 minutes away by road. Bound for the Emerald Isle? Ty Cwch Boathouse is also about an hour from the Fishguard ferry.
