  • Pop-up site on a dairy farm with hill views near Brongest, Ceredigion
  • A 15-minute drive to Penbryn Beach; Welsh Wildlife Centre half an hour
  • Off-grid camping with farm walks; shops and pubs 10 minutes’ drive
It’s time for a Welsh wild-camping adventure with family and friends. Dolgoch Camping is absolutely the choice for those of you in need of a peaceful break, as this rural campsite is tucked into a secluded field surrounded by forested hills, and located on an equally secluded dairy farm near Brongest in Ceredigion. This being a no-frills sort of place, there are few facilities except a compost loo, so you’ll definitely need to bring a torch from home for getting around after dark –there’s no street lighting for miles. There’s plenty to see about the farm though: it’s set in a wooded valley where the Ceri and Medini rivers meet, and many of the oak, beech and ash woods are over 200 years old, so get exploring on foot. Dogs are welcome, but please keep them under control because of the livestock. A mansion stood at Dolgoch in the Middle Ages, where wandering minstrels performed in a traditional Welsh festival of singing, dancing and poetry known as an Eisteddfod. Your walks may lead you to a standing stone in one of the fields, thought to commemorate the first-ever such event on the land, and on your wanderings about the place you may also come across the remains of a burial site and an old fort. Coming back to present day, the nearest shops and pubs are in Newcastle Emlyn (10 minutes’ drive), while Cardigan Bay beaches are 15 minutes away.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The location was perfect for a feel of real wild camping & being allowed to view the calves & organic farm life was a bonus

Disliked: Tap water only available from farm (even though the river water supply was clean it may not be for everyone) & place to leave rubbish on exit would be useful
