General
- Peaceful dog-friendly site with views over Cardigan Bay
- A 35-minute walk from New Quay; footpath to the Wales Coast Path
- Shops and pubs in New Quay; playground and dog exercise area on site
Raring to go dolphin-spotting on the Wales Coast Path or fishing on a boat trip from New Quay? Very well – here’s Tyr Ffynnon Farm, an advantageous base for such coastal adventures. With 180-degree views over Cardigan Bay and a location just 35 minutes’ walk from New Quay, it would have been a shame to keep this quiet 38-acre working sheep farm for sheep only.
Now, families and dogs (on leads) are welcome to come and relax at the elevated peninsular spot. There are plenty of walking areas away from the traffic – and just a couple of hundred metres from the entrance, there’s a public footpath where guests can join the Wales Coast Path. Spectacular views and the chance to spot dolphins… yes please.
The coastal path passes through lively New Quay, where activities such as boat trips, sailing, fishing and watersports are on the agenda. Also called Cei Newydd, New Quay has a pretty harbour, sandy beaches and a sound selection of shops, pubs and restaurants for all your foodie desires.
The pièce de resistance at Tyr Ffynnon Farm surely has to be the sublime sea-view sunsets that can be seen from the site. Other ace features include the modern shower and toilet facilities, which have hot electric showers, wash basins, toilets, electric hand dryers and electric sockets for hairdryers (in the ladies’ only) and a shaver point (in the gents’). Those with mini family members will also be pleased to find a playground and a fenced dog exercise area on site.
Bonus points – the peaceful, friendly site is 20 minutes’ drive from Aberaeron, 35 minutes from Cardigan and 45 minutes from Aberystwyth.

Local attractions
Days out in Aberaeron (20 minutes’ drive) – a regency town with a Georgian harbour and multi-coloured houses – could be spent taking yet more coastal walks, tucking into tapas and scallops around the harbour or licking a honey-flavoured ice cream by the sea.
Strolls or fishing along the river Teifi might make it onto your itinerary in Cardigan (35 minutes). The town’s castle is on the riverside and has its own escape room. Another historical spot is in St Dogmaels (40 minutes), where there are abbey ruins with medieval roots.
Aberystwyth (45 minutes) is much more than a university town. It’s also home to the National Library of Wales, a free museum and heaps of interesting shops.
As for sublime coastal spots, Penbryn beach (25 minutes) is accessed through woodlands from the Wales Coast Path. A short detour from here will get you to Tresaith Waterfall (25 minutes).

Sorry that you felt that your stay wasn't up to your expectations although pleased that you loved the location. Also sorry that we had to ask you to move your tent as you had pitched over onto someone else's site.
Scoring seemed rather unfair however:
Accommodation 1/5-we provide no accommodation, you bring your own!
Facilities/activities 1/5 we clearly state that this is a basic site that provides no activities other than a play area for the children. We cater for those looking for a peaceful, restful break in a beautiful setting within very close proximity to lovely New Quay.
Customer services 1/5 Nigel always gives of his best and will bend over backwards to help anyone out. It would have been interesting to learn where this was lacking.
Child friendliness 3/5 we provide a play area for the children and very large areas where they can play safely
Cleanliness 1/5 Facilities are checked at a minimum of every 2 hours. Perhaps your visit to the showers/toilets directly followed users that had made a mess?? Having said that, you mention only 'slightly' dirty in your review which certainly shouldn't warrant such a low score.
The loo roll holders have been replaced 3 times now by mishandling. We are still waiting for jumbo roll holders to be delivered that have been promised by mid this week. We could replace with conventional holders yet again in the meantime, but this would be foolish as they would undoubtedly be yanked off of the wall within a few days as previous experience has told us.
We will look into installing some in-shower holders.
We are making improvements all of the time and any suggestions are always welcome.
