Lampeter Caravan and Camping
Parked up on the pitches
Plenty of room
Plenty of space

  • Motorhome pitches on a farm site with views over the Ceredigion hills
  • Five minutes’ drive to Lampeter, and 25 minutes from Aberaeron
  • Peaceful, simple site just five minutes’ drive from pubs and shops
Visiting the offspring at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David? Or just longing for a quiet motorhome break with a back-to-nature vibe on level grass pitches? Either way, Lampeter Caravan and Camping makes a more-than-handy base. This small, family-run site has spectacular views over the Ceredigion hills at Maesypwll and is five minutes’ drive from the Lampeter campus. While you’re in Lampeter, pick up foodie supplies from the supermarkets in Lampeter, or if cooking is off the schedule (this is your holiday after all) there are pubs, fish and chip shops and takeaways galore for you to choose your supper from. Set on a working farm, the pitches have easy access from the main A475, giving you good connections with the coast at Aberaeron (25 minutes’ drive) or the indie shops of Carmarthen (40 minutes). Simple on-site facilities include a shower and loo block, plus recycling and waste-water disposal. With just a handful of pitches, there is loads of room for kids to let off steam safely and have a run around with (well-behaved) dogs.

What customers say

This is a highly recommended, peaceful campsite offering spacious pitches, friendly and helpful owners, and beautiful rural views. Facilities, while described as basic by some, are consistently praised for cleanliness. The location is ideal for exploring the coast and local town. Some guests experienced muddy conditions and occasional noise from other campers, though manager replies indicate issues such as broken toilet seats and hygiene have been addressed.

Liked Easy to find, a well kept site, clean toilets and good shower as well. Very spacious plots, communal fireplace area (wood provided for 1 fire then can purchase more on site after that). A nice chilled quiet site, perfect for us, spoke to a few of the other guests and had a few drinks with them as well one evening. Stuart the owner is a great guy and we will be coming back very soon.

Liked Very close to centre, shopping areas, pubs and restaurants and at the same time very peaceful and quite area. There are horses next to you, lots of wild birds. Owner of the site was a great person, we had a chance to meet with him. He was so kind and he had very warm welcome to us. We highly recommend this camping site.

Fully-serviced grass pitch

Liked Quiet site with plenty of fields around and countryside to walk the dog. Big pitches with toilets and a shower block. Owner was friendly and helpful.

Disliked Entrance and exit is tight and narrow and we had to shunt the caravan back a couple of times to get out without hitting the bank on the way out.

Liked Facilities were really clean.
It was muddy so the owner towed our caravan on arrival and when leaving with his tractor so we didn’t get stuck in the mud.

Disliked Was very muddy due to the rain but I imagine in the summer it is a lovely site to stay on. There were picnic benches you could use to sit and eat at outside and plenty of room to play field games.

Local attractions

First stop may well be a day at the coast. Gather everybody up and head for New Quay (half an hour’s drive) with its cute fishing harbour and pocket-sized beach, or choose Aberaeron (25 minutes) to admire its brightly coloured houses and go swimming or sailing. At Aberystwyth (45 minutes) you can take a ride on the cliff railway for wondrous views over Cardigan Bay. At each of these ports of call, there are cafés and restaurants for revitalising after splashing around on the beach. Carmarthen (40 minutes) is a lovely spot to spend the day, with the remains of an ancient Roman amphitheatre, indoor artisan markets and lots of art galleries as well as indie boutiques selling jewellery and crafts. If you have time, take a detour to the Carmarthenshire County Museum in nearby Abergwili (40 minutes) to learn about local Arthurian legends. If you’d like to buy some Welsh souvenirs, plan a visit to In The Welsh Wind Distillery (35 minutes) to pick up some gin, or take home some local honey, beeswax and seeds from Gwenyn Gruffydd honey farm (45 minutes).
