Plenty to keep kids happy

  • Quiet Mid Wales coastal campsite overlooking spectacular Cardigan Bay
  • Walking distance to Mwnt Beach; Castell Henllys half an hour’s drive
  • Family site with a play park, animals to meet and a well-stocked shop
With sweeping views over Cardigan Bay – home of a well-known dolphin pod – peaceful, family-run Blaenwaun Caravan Park is set on an organic beef and arable farm 15 minutes’ drive north of Cardigan in Mid Wales. This quiet spot overlooks the gorgeous National Trust-owned Mwnt Beach, which can be reached via a bridleway from the site. This coastal caravan park is a great base for the whole family; there’s a fantastic play area on the edge of the camping field (so parents can keep an eye on their offspring from the pitches), and there’s masses of room for ball games, kite flying or riding bikes. As if that’s not enough, youngsters can feed pot-bellied pigs, Jemima the goat and Pippi the pony, while pet ducks have a free run of the place. Access the Ceredigion Coast Path from the site (bring any dogs with you for seaside walkies), and give alfresco cooking on the barbecue a go too. There’s a well-stocked shop on site, selling fresh bread, milk, free-range eggs and farm-produced organic beef, as well as gifts and camping essentials. To make life even easier, electric hook-ups are available, and you can use the basic kitchen equipment (microwave, kettle, fridge and toaster) in the laundry room. The facilities block has a disabled shower room and baby-changing facility too.

What customers say

This is a highly recommended, well-maintained campsite with stunning sea views and spectacular sunsets. Visitors praised the friendly and helpful owners, spacious and clean pitches, and excellent facilities, including a popular children's playground and a useful campers' kitchen. While showers were generally hot and clean, some noted issues with temperature control and a lack of cubicle space for dressing. The location is ideal for exploring the coast and nearby beaches, though some found the walk to the beach hilly.

Liked We arrived to a lovely welcoming, super friendly. The place is lovely. Weather was great too. Facilities were fab, lovely hot showers a they even had a kettle for when our gas ran out and we needed a much needed caffeine boost. We came as a family and our dog and had the best time. Mwnt beach is definitely worth a visit while there. We watched the sunset and saw dolphins jumping

Electric grass pitch

Liked Small friendly site, good clean facilities, stunning views of the sea, felt safe with our two young boys, great family feel and kids made friends and played together which was nice. nice little on site park and a lovely beach nearby although I would advised driving if you have children or are carrying things, there is a carpark at the beach along with a shop and toilets. We were very pleased and definitely planning on coming back next year, we had a bit of rain at the start so with the forecast being really nice towards the end of our stay we asked if we could extend and we could which was great. Small onsite shop was handy but even so its only an 8min drive to the local aldi and bnm. Also loved the milkshake vending machine just up the road.

Disliked wasn't impressed with the animals, we went to see the pigs who greeted us and the boys loved them. Same with the horse, but was saddened by the horses small field, feel this could be better maintained better and a shelter added (unless of course its not its usual space).

From the manager: Thank you for you kind review. In answer to your comments about the animals. The four pigs have the freedom to roam from the smaller field into the large 6 acre field as and when they like, but tend to prefer the smaller padock during the summer months as they know that our campers visit them and feed them too. As you know they are very social creatures.
Pippi, our 24 year old New Forest pony has her own private indoor accomodation. If the weather is particularly wet or windy she stays in. She is fed fresh hay every morning when she is out in her smaller 1/4 acre padock as she cannot be turned out to the larger field as the grass here is too strong for her. She suffers from laminitis, a debiliatating illness, brought on by lush pasture, which can overload the digestive system.
Thank you for our concern,

Amazing site with good facilities and fantastic views. Kids loved it

Electric grass pitch

Liked We really liked the location- only a few minutes drive to the beach. Definitely not a walk. The little park was great for the kids to socialise and we could always see them from our pitch. All tent pitches had great visibility of the play park.
They provide a fridge , kettle , toaster and cooker hob in the kitchen which was very helpful for morning teas and windy days.

Disliked Silicone in the shower could do with a refresh. Water to the showers were very hot, unable to change temperature. The disabled showers/ family room showers were able to be adjusted though.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Everything ! Perfect sized campsite with good sized pitches .
The kids loved having freedom to roam around the campsite and make new friends on the park . The owner was absolutely lovely and happy to help with anything we needed .
We all loved taking the veg and fruit scraps to the animals each day .
I really liked there being kitchen facilities like the hob , fridge and toaster . It made cooking easier when it became a bit too windy for my rubbish camping stove .
We found the locals and campsite regulars were very friendly and gave good advice for places to crab, fish and go with the kids . We will definitely be coming back to this campsite .

Disliked Having to leave , as I had to go back to work .
My son was sad we couldn’t bring a goat or his favourite pig home.
My partner said the men’s toilets could have done with an extra toilet.

Liked The kids ,my husband and myself had an amazing week. It’s in the middle of nowhere but on takes a short walk or drive. The washing facilities were cleaned all the time. The view from the tent was beautiful looking over the sea. The week was just perfect

Disliked I can’t honestly find anything other than the on site shop but that’s just what it is. Maybe open a bit longer but it is run by the owners.

Local attractions

Cardigan Bay is home to a myriad of marine wildlife. Migrating dolphins can often be seen offshore, and there are numerous boat trips departing St Dogmaels (15 minutes’ drive) to view harbour porpoises, Atlantic grey seals and the resident pod of bottled-nosed dolphins. Sporty types will fit right in here too. Golfers can make a beeline for the 18-hole championship course at Gwbert (10 minutes), and there are three other courses within about 20 minutes’ drive. Sailing aficionados can hire boats in Gwbert, and riders explore the countryside on horseback from the local equestrian centre (20 minutes). For a change of pace, learn about local history with a visit to the Benedictine monastery ruins in St Dogmaels, or have a nose around the mighty towers and ramparts of 13th-century Cilgerran Castle (20 minutes). Travel back in time to Castell Henllys (half an hour), a carefully reconstructed Iron Age settlement, and take a walk up to the prehistoric burial monument at Pentre lfan (half an hour).
