  • Secluded and spacious six-acre site with views over Cardigan Bay
  • A 15-minute drive to Aberystwyth; footpath access to coast path
  • Firepit area and utility room for guest use; duck eggs for sale
Coming to Ceredigion to admire its gorgeous coastline? You’ll be able to do exactly that at all hours at Eva’s Retreat, as this secluded and spacious site is just a short way from the coast, with views out over the sea (often particularly spectacular at sunset…) This is a place that’s all about fresh air and nature, with six acres of land to explore and lots of wildlife around (including red kites and swallows soaring overhead). It’s a peaceful place too, with only a handful of guests on site and the nearest neighbours a good 250 metres away. You’ll spot donkeys, doves and ducks around the site though – with the ducks often producing eggs that are available to buy. Taking a short walk up the campsite hill is highly recommended, as that’s the best place to get those sweeping sea views (and you can camp up here if it’s not too windy…) Longer walks are also an excellent idea, and easily done as a footpath leads down to the Wales Coast Path for jaunts north to Aberystwyth or south to Llanrhystud (both about four miles away). This is a fairly simple site in terms of facilities, but it does have a portable toilet and the use of a utility room in the barn (with a microwave, kettle and electric plugs). As it’s a long way from anything urban you should get excellent stargazing on clear nights, but you’ll need to bring a torch to find your way around after dark. Campfires are permitted in the firepit area only from 6pm to 10pm; please be sensible and make sure your fire is completely out before you retire to bed.

Local attractions

There’s a whole lot of loveliness to explore along this stretch of the Ceredigion coast, whether you choose simply to amble along the coast path or make a beeline straight for one of the area’s top spots. Some favourites around here are the colourful harbour at Aberaeron (20 minutes’ drive), the petrified forest at Borth beach (half an hour) and Ynyslas National Nature Reserve (35 minutes). For a bit of town time, you might like to head north to Aberystwyth (15 minutes) for the National Library of Wales and Vale of Rheidol Railway, or south to New Quay (35 minutes) to board a dolphin-spotting boat trip. Turning inland, you could aim for Bwlch Nant yr Arian Forest Visitor Centre (25 minutes), a hub for walks and bike rides with daily red kite feeding sessions as well. Devil’s Bridge Falls (25 minutes) and the Hafod Estate (half an hour) are also good bets for a walk, with the Silver Mountain Experience (half an hour) on hand for entertainment on a damp day.
