Quiet season nice pitches and great for dog

  • Peaceful pitches a mile from Aberystwyth town centre
  • A 10-minute drive from Borth beach; 20 minutes from Devil's Bridge
  • Easy access from main roads; dogs welcome
Make the most of Ceredigion’s countryside and set your compass to Bryncarnedd Caravan Park, a mile outside of Aberystwyth town centre. It is indeed a splendid spot here on what was once a busy dairy farm, and handily you’ll be well set for getting into town for shops, restaurants and attractions when you want them. These days, this place has been transformed into a peaceful caravan park with holiday lets in the surrounding old farm buildings. Dogs are welcome to join you on the pitches here – there are plenty of places to take them (or yourselves) for a walk on local pathways. Easy access to the local main roads (A44 and A487) means that it’s straightforward to get out and about for the area’s many activities and attractions, be they beaches, birdwatching, bike riding or exploring the area around Devils Bridge (waterfalls and cool bridges included). Back on site, though, there are well-maintained facilities, including a play area, washing-up area, chemical disposal point and modern bathroom block with toilets and showers to rinse off after a full-on day of adventuring.

Liked: When you arrive there’s a notice on the wall to say go pick your pitch as they have you on cctv and see that you’ve pre booked ,use the showers at the entrance to camp lovely hot and clean and pot washing were nice and hot too campsite was very quiet in the middle of nowhere, we walked into town which had plenty of shops restaurants etc also the steam train which takes you to devil’s bridge , we got a taxi back which was £6 but saves the climb back would stop over again 👍

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: Nothing

Disliked: There is no reception and nobody to speak to about pitching etc we tried to call the phone number provided numerous times and was greeted with an answer machine each time. There are no views and it is at a top of a steep hill making access the Aberyswyth difficult There is no WiFi, Access to the shower block is dangerous, it consists of a step stool and a concrete slab, anyone with mobility issues will struggle. The site and facilities are poor and very tired. We will not be returning. Definitely not worth the money.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: Closeness to Aberystwyth. TV reception excellent as is phone civerage

Disliked: Offputting toilets and showers. Lights not working in some units. Same for washing up area. Best to use your own facilities. Site was quiet but nothing to recommend it. The walk into Aber takes 35 mins down a very steep hill. First 100 yards has no footbath on a busy road. Get the T2 bus back to save the walk up the hill .

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: Good size of pitches, which are all hard standing. Small, quiet site. Very chilled welcome. Hot showers with plenty of room. Close location to Aberystwyth. Free WiFi.

Disliked: Only one sink to wash dishes. Poor signage to identify reception/office when driving in. Wifi quality varied across the site. Could do with a kitchen.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: Quiet, apart from noisy dogs. Site level

Disliked: Very impersonal. No staff because of ANPR. Facilities - bare minimum. No soap in dispensers, no plugs, squeegee for showers worn out. Toilet block - one toilet marked Ladies but others presumably for anyone but not sure. General lack of caring. End of season but glad not to be there in high season.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: We have booked lots of sites with pitch up but this is possibly the worse one. Think the touring pitches are an afterthought to be honest. We’re not fussy but our friends tent pitch was on a big water sodden incline. The toilet blocks were rotten, dirty, no hand wash. When you had a shower it flooded at the side that badly you had a challenge to get dressed without wetting all of f your clothes 🤷🏼‍♀️ There is a launderette but not advertised. Not great 😮‍💨

Disliked: Pretty much everything.

Local attractions

Once you’ve got your bearings, you’ll want to get clued up on exactly what’s close by. Aberystwyth (five minutes’ drive) has a castle, cliff railway and the nostalgic Vale of Rheidol Railway, while Borth beach (10 minutes) will sort out swimming, surfing, fishing, sailing and windsurfing fans. For walks surrounded by pleasant coastal scenery, the Ynyslas beach and nature reserve (15 minutes) is a sure bet for that sort of stuff, while the Bwlch Nant yr Arian Forest Visitor Centre (15 minutes) has plenty of walks or bike trails in a forest setting instead. There's also red kite feeding activities to mix things up a little there. Put your smarts to the test… you’ll find a few things to wrap your head around at the Centre for Alternative Technology (35 minutes). Meanwhile, Corris Craft Centre (35 minutes) will be a test of your artistic skills instead, while the Silver Mountain Experience (20 minutes) has escape rooms and tours around a Victorian mine. And what about King Arthur's Labyrinth (40 minutes), where re-enactments and boat tours bring the legends to life? Handily, with your guide, you shouldn't get too lost inside the Snowdonia mountains…
