The Rheidol shepherd's hut

Liked Everything, it was beautiful and very cosy, I will definitely book again.

Disliked I think it may be time to throw out the little portable heater, I tried it but it smelled very badly, the main heater was awesome so no drama 👍

The Rheidol shepherd's hut

Liked Loved the location. Completely surrounded by hills and trees. It’s beautiful.
The Shepherds Hut was perfect.
Very clean, and very cosy.
I was expecting it to feel small, but there’s plenty of room for two.
There’s no TV which was a bonus, just chilled and had a few glasses of wine.
We didn’t go exploring as it was pouring down, and only stayed in the location to be a stop to visiting Devils Bridge, which I recommend people visit (It’s got some very steep steps, so no wheel chairs or pushchairs!)
Onsite toilets are clean too.

What customers say

This tranquil, small campsite offers beautiful rural views and spacious pitches. Guests consistently praise the friendly and helpful owners, clean facilities including hot showers (with a small fee), and washing-up areas. The site is noted for its peace and quiet, with adult-only and no-dog policies. Access roads are narrow, and some pitches are on slopes. A small shop and nearby pub are convenient additions.

Liked Small quiet campsite with all the necessary facilities in great condition.

Disliked Narrow roads that lead to the campsite have spare passing places - be careful on the bends.

Liked Lovely quiet site, stunning views and fantastic owners. The site is kept clean and tidy, washing up area with hot water, communal freezer which came in handy with the hot weather. A massive bonus being able to have a campfire on an evening.

Fully plumbed toilets and showers with a simple honesty box policy. Clean and equipped, what more could you ask for?

Disliked Absolutely nothing.

Top Field electric grass and earth tent or motorhome pitch

Liked The site is tranquil and with beautiful views Adrian the owner is helpful friendly and generous. He offered us a lift to the Druid Inn as we didn't think we could walk up the hill. Over and beyond. This site has a narrow access road which I had not spotted in the information! It's tight for motorhomes. Our fault totally.

Disliked Nothing to dislike.

Top Field non-electric grass and earth tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked A very nice campsite with nice showers and toilets! A great location for mountain bikers walkers and if you’re like us there are plenty of 4x4 trailer a stone’s throw from the campsite!
Also a very picturesque place just to relax!

Disliked Only things to mention is that the lanes are pretty tight to the site and the pitches are on a slight slope, obviously this is just the nature of the surrounding terrain and never caused us any issues even with a little trailer on!

Local attractions

You’re bound to end up in Aberystwyth (15 minutes’ drive) sooner or later – it’s not just a place for practicalities but also a great spot for a day out, spending time on the beach, trying out various watersports, riding the cliff railway up to the camera obscura or visiting the National Library of Wales and the ruins of Aberystwyth Castle. Aberystwyth is also the starting point for the Vale of Rheidol Railway, which provides steam-powered trips to the stunning Devil’s Bridge Falls. If you’d rather head straight to the falls, it’s about a 15-minute drive. While you’re inland, stop by at the red kite feeding station at Bwlch Nant yr Arian Forest (five minutes) or head underground at Silver Mountain Experience (10 minutes). And then? Maybe back to the coast for a day at Borth (20 minutes), further inland to the hikes of Elan Valley (45 minutes) or north for an educational day at the Centre for Alternative Technology (45 minutes)?
