  • Peaceful adults-only Ceredigion site in the Melindwr Valley
  • A 15-minute drive to Aberystwyth and Devil's Bridge Falls
  • Easy access from the A44; pub 10 minutes' walk away
Ceredigion’s coast and countryside alike will be yours for the taking when you stay at Aber Camping – this adults-only site welcomes guests aged 16 and over to a peaceful spot in the Melindwr Valley, about 15 minutes’ drive from Aberystwyth. Gorgeous rural life is all around you here – there are sheep and cows in the neighbouring fields, and you’ll often spot red kites, buzzards and other birds of prey flying overhead or landing nearby (wildlife photographers, don’t forget your kit…) Unobscured views of the surroundings also mean that this site is a great place to sit and simply take in the landscape on a relaxed break. And if you need a little more activity? Well, there’s plenty of that around too, whether you stay inland for hikes and mountain bike trails or head west to the coast for seaside walks, surfing, swimming and watersports (and perhaps the chance to spot the porpoises and dolphins that live in Cardigan Bay). This is an excellent location for 4x4 and off-road adventures. There are many trails nearby and guided tours are available at an additional cost. Ask ahead and you may be able to organise lifts to and from the train/bus station, or to local attractions – most handy for folk travelling without a car. Action-packed break or chillout time on the cards – either way, you’ll no doubt appreciate the effort that’s gone into setting up the facilities on site. Guests will have access to modern, clean toilets and showers (with ladies’ and gents’ sections), an enclosed washing-up area and a small shop for essentials. For more extensive stocking up there are plenty of shops in Aberystwyth, as well as places to eat and drink. Your closest pub, however, is a mere 10-minute walk away – a welcome site at the end of a long and active day…

Liked: We visited for the weekend, after dropping a daughter off a Aberystwyth University. Aber camping was a 10/15 min drive away. Peaceful campsite. The nearby walks were stunning, but we had limited time to enjoy them, so we'll be back to take more time in the area. Local people were friendly & chatty. Good pint at the friendly local pub (the walk up the hill to it will make you ready for that pint 🙂). 2 toilets in the ladies, same in the mens, and also a shower in each block. Basic, but clean & shower was hot. Mostly had the site to ourselves. Small, limited pitches.

Liked: A lovely campsite in a gorgeous valley. Owner is very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our time there with lovely walks from the campsite. There is also a cute community library which you could visit for free and the local pub is also very friendly.

Disliked: Because of the amount of rain we had this August, the ground was very soft and it was hard for the campervans to drive out of the site without getting stuck in the mud. The owner was on hand to pull the vans out where needed though. The campsite might benefit from some mats or other form of path making. As the site has only been going for 2 years, I am sure this will be something that will be addressed in the near future.

From the manager: Hi. I’m glad you enjoyed our site. You are right it was one of the wettest Augusts on record. In fact one of the wettest summers! The ground was soft. When the sun has been out for a day or two the ground is fine as it drains well. We are looking at options on mats for next year as aesthetically we don’t really want to put roads in and spoil the feel of the site. I am always on hand to help. Thank you. 🏕️

Liked: We had the best time camping here. Andre and the whole local area were so friendly and welcoming. The pitch itself had lush views and it was peaceful that we both managed an 11 hour sleep. Toilets and showers were constantly clean. Would highly recommend the homemade steak pie at the Druid Inn just a short 12 min walk away, best pie I've ever had.

Disliked: Nothing... everything was perfect except the rain!

Liked: Views and tranquil setting of the site. Showers worked really well and host super helpful. Great pub grub (pie and chips) at the Druids Inn 10min walk away. Would certainly stay again.

Disliked: Nothing much, grass could do with a cut maybe.

Liked: Just what we needed. We camped and set up a day tent / gazebo for 4 nights. The site was situated in an idyllic valley and had everything you need for a short break without children. Clean toilets and showers, electric Hook up. Andre the owner was friendly and accommodating. Fire pits / logs and kindling available on request. Considering the site has not long been open I am sure it will be a popular destination. There was a friendly pub within 10 mins walk and also a bus stop which takes you into town within 25 mins, the cost for a return ticket to Aberystwyth was only £4.80, the town itself is bustling, with bars and restaurants, all the locals were pleasant to talk to. Plenty of scenic walks nearby and we visited Devils Bridge which we would recommend. We visited the Big Tribute Festival (which is a must for anyone travelling over the August bank holiday weekend), great fun and a very popular local event. Sunday lunch at the local country restaurant was great - good quality pub food and reasonable prices, ‘Tafarn y Maes’ (10 min drive). Overall I would highly recommend this site to anyone who wants to get away. Basic however extremely enjoyable, perfect to be cut off from busy routine life. Somewhere you can relax and/or create your own activity/adventure.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike, even the British summertime (rain) weather hasn’t put us off. Maybe Andre could invest in some hardcore paths so cars don’t get stuck in heavy weather (very minor issue)

Liked: Beautiful views.

Disliked: Pitch not very level. Waste bin in ladies full. Shower had a square lock and the hole in the door was round so couldn’t lock it. There was also a huge gap in the door so no privacy. Shower worked fine.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Jan I know you had trouble levelling you motorhome. No one else has. The door in the showers shuts fully over you only closed it to the first door jamb and not fully where it is meant to be🤣. It is fully self contained with a wc and hand basin. I can’t stop grass off peoples shoes entering the toilet block but it is cleaned daily, After 11am when people are meant to be gone by. Facilities? Hot showers. Hot running water. Waste disposal. Free Ice block freezing facility. Fire pit loan. Not sure what else you would want on a farm site. Feel free if you would like a free night to come back and happy to personally show you how and where everything is. Kind regards Andre

Local attractions

You’re bound to end up in Aberystwyth (15 minutes’ drive) sooner or later – it’s not just a place for practicalities but also a great spot for a day out, spending time on the beach, trying out various watersports, riding the cliff railway up to the camera obscura or visiting the National Library of Wales and the ruins of Aberystwyth Castle. Aberystwyth is also the starting point for the Vale of Rheidol Railway, which provides steam-powered trips to the stunning Devil’s Bridge Falls. If you’d rather head straight to the falls, it’s about a 15-minute drive. While you’re inland, stop by at the red kite feeding station at Bwlch Nant yr Arian Forest (five minutes) or head underground at Silver Mountain Experience (10 minutes). And then? Maybe back to the coast for a day at Borth (20 minutes), further inland to the hikes of Elan Valley (45 minutes) or north for an educational day at the Centre for Alternative Technology (45 minutes)?
