  • Peaceful dog-friendly site surrounded by the Caithness countryside
  • A 20-minute drive to Wick and 25 minutes to Dunnet Head
  • Simple pitches close to the North Coast 500 route
Welcome to some of the most northerly parts of Britain, where wide-open spaces and the coves of the coastline are ready for the taking. With the right conditions, you can witness the Northern Lights dance, and at other times, just lean back and look up at the night sky (spectacular, as there is very little light pollution here), gorgeous sunsets, or spot the Orkney Islands in the distance… In the peaceful Caithness countryside, Morvenview Caravan Site is a handy stopoff on the North Coast 500 route, within 20 minutes’ drive of Wick, and a good bet for anyone who rates views, peace and the quiet high in their likes. Bring your dog along, as there are dedicated areas for walking and exercise on site, or take your feet further down to the most northerly point in Britain, Dunnet Head and its 18th-century lighthouse and its nearby sheltered cove. This is a simple site with one toilet and one shower; guests also have access to essentials including fresh water, recycling and a chemical disposal point (green chemicals only, please). Grab snacks for on the go from the shops in Thurso or Wick, each a 20-minute drive, or please your palate with the local Caithness cuisine in one of their several pubs or restaurants.

Local attractions

Bottoms up… the Dunnet Bay Distillery (15 minutes’ drive) will introduce you to the local heritage and coveted Scottish gins and vodka, while the Pulteney Distillery (20 minutes) specialises in whisky. The Dunnet peninsula has plenty more intriguing spots to seek out… after a visit to the lighthouse, you could pretend you’re Scottish royalty at the Castle & Gardens of Mey (25 minutes) or stroll onto two miles of sand at Dunnet Bay (15 minutes). Head east along the coast and keep your eyes peeled for orca, seals and dolphins at John o’ Groats (25 minutes). Then, move onto the rocky coast of Gills Bay (20 minutes). You can take a ferry from here, or from Scrabster (25 minutes) to the archipelago of Orkney, where there are Viking tombs, preserved villages and more archaeological sites ahead.
