What customers say

This is a small, peaceful campsite offering stunning views and a tranquil atmosphere, ideal for NC500 travellers. Pitches are level and serviced, with a very clean and well-equipped toilet/shower facility. Owners are frequently praised for their exceptional friendliness and helpfulness. While some noted the limited number of shower/toilet units and the exposed, windy location, the site is generally well-maintained and offers good value.

Liked Location was great - great views - owners very helpful

Disliked There is only 1 toilet/shower and when there are about 8 campers/ motoring (so probably 20 people) can be very frustrating queuing up for the toilet or shower in the freezing cold.

Liked Clear instructions from the host, very friendly when we were greeted on arrival. Facilities explained clearly and water/electricity all in working order. The toilet/shower was very welcome and very clean and well equipped. Lovely small and clean site, signposted and value for money.

Disliked If the site was busy I think it would be difficult as there is only one toilet, however when we stayed in December there were only 2 vans on site so was not a problem for us.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Host's communication and flexibility in accommodating our changing travel plans.
The toilet and shower was immaculately clean.

Disliked Lighting. This site has an lot of very bright lights around the site which is a great shame as it is situated in the most amazing dark sky area. The lighting is so bright it literally dazzled us and sadly completely washed out the night sky so it was impossible to observer the northern lights that were displaying that night.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked The location was tranquil and feels wild. Facilities were spotless and heated - a delight in November! - and the site was nicely laid out, with well-drained hard surface bays, each with electric hook-up. Its a dark-sky area so the views at night are of stars and boat-lights at sea. Its the only site open in November in this part of the NC500 that I could find, making it especially useful.
The owner is very pleasant and helpful. Lots to see and do in the immediate area if you enjoy coastal walks and watching wildlife - there were seals on the beach a few miles away.

Local attractions

To learn more about Caithness heritage, pay a visit to Nybster Broch (five minutes’ drive), the circular ruins of a former Iron Age settlement with a 19th-century tower covered in gargoyles built into it. Just down the road, the Caithness Broch Centre (also five minutes) displays Viking and Pictish artefacts found in local brochs, including pottery and gaming tokens. Have a nose around the dramatic clifftop ruins of Bucholie (five minutes) and Old Keiss castles (10 minutes), or for a regal day out, tour the sumptuous apartments and neatly planted walled gardens at the 16th-century Castle of Mey (25 minutes’ drive), once the home of HM, The Queen Mother. Head to John O’Groats (10 minutes) for beer and whisky tastings or to pick up pretty souvenirs in the art gallery. To admire the wild Caithness coastline from the sea, join a boat cruise from Wick (20 minutes) and get up close to caves and jagged sea stacks while looking out for puffin colonies tucked into the cliffs and seals basking on the rocks.
