Non-electric grass tent pitch (five person)

Liked: Very nice big campsite, very dog-friendly, would definitely go again. Particularly nice to be able to access the facilities of the neighbouring Loch Tay Highland Lodges.

Disliked: Ideally there'd be a better-quality path or road linking the campsite with the Lodges, instead of the track which gets muddy after wet weather. Someone should take the COVID signs down too :-)

From the manager: Hi Tim. Thank you for your great review. We are thrilled you enjoyed your stay @ Cruachan Farm and hope we can welcome you again in the future. We will have a look for those signs! Many thanks!

Non-electric grass tent pitch (five person)

Liked: We enjoyed our stay Cruachan Camping Park. The park itself is situated in a beautiful location near the banks of Loch Tay. There's a nice short walk down to the banks of the loch if you so wish. The nearest village Killin is only about 3.5 mile away with a small supermarket and some nice pubs/ restaurants. The camping area is on gentle hill slopes but there are some good flat bits. Be wary not to camp in the dips as these are prone to flooding if the weather is bad. The wash/ toilet facilities were kept clean and well stocked and all the staff we met were friendly and helpful.

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked: Friendly staff. Quiet site. Laundry is cheap and showers are hot. The cafe does a great breakfast bap.

Disliked: Site is very dated. You have to check in at the sister site, but no warning of that until you actually arrive.

From the manager: Hi Amy, Thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed the facilities at Cruachan Farm. We have recently taken over the site and upgrades will be looked at at the end of the season. I would say I think our prices reflect what we offer at the moment. We do mention in our confirmations and pre arrival emails where you would check in. Apologies if you missed this.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (five person)

Liked: Location great, staff very helpful and friendly.

Disliked: Hardly any flat ground. Quite boggy in places. Toilet/shower block is skanky, really needs torn down and rebuilt.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi There, Thank you for your review. Our site is not all flat but do have flat areas for people to camp. Unfortunately the excessive wet weather we have been having has made the ground rather water logged. We have recently taken over the site. The amenities blocks will be addressed soon. We do hope to see you again.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (five person)

Liked: The location was central to the two villages nearby and the site was quite on the most part and reasonably sheltered from the wind

Disliked: There wasn't much to be admired in the toilets/shower block as this came across as uncared for in that it looked like an old shed with lots of dead mijies on the wall and rafters . But functional enough to do the job when needed . Sadly no view of the loch from the locaction of the tents which was a minor let down

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Bryan, Thank you for your review. We are happy you enjoyed our location. We have recently taken over Cruachan Farm and we will be looking at improvements through the winter months. I do think our prices at the moment do reflect what we can offer. There is no view of the loch from the campsite however it is just a 10/15 min walk down to the lochside. We do hope we can welcome you again in the future.

Local attractions

Starting locally, Killin Castle (five minutes' drive) is definitely a landmark to explore. While here, wander down past the pretty waters at the Falls of Dochart (five minutes) and keep an eye out for wildlife. Killin Golf Club (also five minutes) is a well-liked course with nine scenic landscaped holes to try, while just a little further away at Ben Lawers Dam (10 minutes) you can get a close-up view of one of Scotland's highest Munros. After exploring Loch Tay and the local area, it's a short enough drive to Loch Tay (20 minutes), where plenty of watersports and hiking trails are on offer. The village of Aberfoyle (an hour away) is very popular with off-road cyclists who appreciate its miles of well-maintained gravel tracks, and there's also a forest park with Go Ape, a visitor centre and a hide where beady-eyed visitors may spot red squirrels among the trees. For more heritage sights, try Castle Menzies (30 minutes), an imposing 16th-century clan seat, or Stirling Castle (an hour and 10 minutes), one of the most important and impressive historic buildings in Scotland.
